October newsletter 2015 Over 100 years of fun From the General Manager The summer s sweltering heat has passed and beautiful fall weather is here. It is time to fall in love with Lexington all over again! We have an exciting fall calendar of golf and social events that will keep the club buzzing with activity. Why not share this with your friends and family? We hope you re taking advantage of our fall membership drive, Are You Game for 2016? As you know, if you refer one person and they become a club member, your membership dues drop to $150 (golf and social) or $100 (social). Now, we are making it even more interesting! In addition to lowering your dues, for each new member you refer who registers you will receive entry into a raffle based on the membership type they choose. A full member who joins earns each of you a chance to win $500 in golf lessons, and a social member who joins earns each of you a chance to win a Deluxe Stay & Party Package for New Year s Eve at the Robert E. Lee Hotel. We re making it even easier for you to entice your friends with this great offer: No Dues until 2016 for new members (full or social) who register between now and December 31, 2015. The sooner your friends register, the more dues free time they will have! Information about the membership drive was included in the dues mailing and is also available on the club s website and in the weekly emails. Please be sure to tell your referrals to mention you when they register so we can lower your dues! The best way to expand the membership is through personal recommendation. As part of our Lexington family, you have experienced all our club has to offer -- golf, swimming, tennis, live music, holiday parties, family events, and more -- and we encourage you to invite your friends to fall in love with Lexington, too! Golf at Lexington Below you ll find exciting events, important notes and more! From the golf professional As the 2015 golf season winds down, we have a full schedule of weekly member events, outside tournaments, and member tournaments to keep us busy! We re particularly excited for the Fall Four-Ball Championship on October 10 and 11. We would love for all of our member golf groups to participate in the Fall Four-Ball, a 36-Hole Better Ball Net of Partners event. The cost will range from $25 to $50, depending on your membership classification and cart plan. We are going to introduce a junior golf flight, which we hope to also introduce to more events in 2016. Players will roll the ball in the fairway, putt out on each hole and play within your flight. This means that there is no need for handicap adjustments for competitors playing from different tees. We also have a few course setup improvements we d like to introduce, all of which you will see in our member tournaments next season. Changes to hours of operation Pro Shop Hours for October Monday 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Tuesday- Sunday 8:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Pro Shop Hours for November Monday 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Tuesday- Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. At the Fall Four-Ball, we will use 3 tee boxes for men instead of the traditional 5. The Championship Tee will be BLUE, and be located on the current black tee / back tee box, with the option to move it up to a back blue tee on some holes. The Men s Tee will be WHITE, located at the typical white tee box with a few blue tee locations on some holes. The Ladies Tee will remain the RED Tee and the the Senior s Tee will also be the RED Tee. The Fall Four-Ball will also include two junior golf flights. The High School kids will play from the WHITE Tees and the Middle School kids will play from the RED Tees. All flights will play Hole # 12 as a Par 5. The Ladies and Middle School kids will play from the forward, RED Tee, with all other flights moving back a tee box. We will have a special surprise for the Championship Tee on Hole # 17. We d love to see everyone play, enjoy the new event setup and give us feedback on these new changes as we end one season and prepare for the next. Please call the Pro Shop or stop in to register or learn more about the event. upcoming Golf Events From the Superintendent Now, I never like to complain about rainfall but that last week of September knocked us back a bit. The weather delayed the bridge repair at 4 green, delayed overseeding by a week and put us behind the 8-ball as far as mowing operations go. Couples Golf - new time! Friday, October 9 and 16 4:00 p.m. shotgun 9-hole, captain s choice scramble followed by a la carte dinner in the Tri-Brook Grill. We will catch up on the mowing as quick as we can to make the course playable again. We are also finalizing our work with the greens committee regarding the tree work that needs to be done. October is a great golf month. Come out and enjoy the season. See you on the course! From the pantry Enjoy this month s blend of tips, tricks and facts from Chef Bunyan! From the Chef This month I d like to take a moment to showcase some of the meat selections now available on our new menu and also provide descriptions for those of you who may be unfamiliar with these cuts of meat. The Rib Eye has the most fat of any of the cuts, which is why it s such a tender, juicy, and flavorful piece of beef. It can be grilled, broiled, or panfried with equally delicious results. These steaks are actually cut from the same piece of meat used for the famous roast Prime Rib. The New York is a steakhouse classic, perfect for the grill, but also does well pan-fried. It is very well marbled, tender, and full flavored. In some parts of the country this cut is referred to as a Kansas City cut, but no matter what it s called it s a great steak for all occasions. The Beef Tenderloin cut is also known in restaurants as a filet mignon. It is lightly marbled with fat, and has the mildest flavor of all the cuts. This area of the animal doesn t do much work, so the meat is extremely tender - in fact, it s the most tender cut available. The buttery texture is what makes this cut so desirable. The Flat Iron steak cut was actually developed by teams at the University of Nebraska and the University of Florida. Flat Iron is the American name for the Butler s Steak in the U.K. or Oyster Blade Steak in Australia and New Zealand. It is cut with the grain from the shoulder ( chuck ) of the animal producing a flavorful, well-marbled, tender, and juicy steak with excellent beef flavor. The Rack of Lamb featured on our menu is from grass-fed New Zealand lamb, which are internationally known for flavor and tenderness. Frenched rack of lamb is widely considered one of the most elegant cuts of meat available. From the food & beverage manager Many thanks to those of you who attended the Lobster Bake and made it such a success! Our next big dinner will be the East Coast vs. West Coast Wine Dinner on Friday, October 23. We re expecting a large crowd, so get your reservations in now! We re excited that the new Tri-Brook menu has been such a big hit so far. We ve received wonderful comments about favorites like the rack of lamb, surf and turf, homemade desserts, and more. We encourage you to visit us for dinner and try it for yourself you won t be disappointed! It seems impossible, but the holidays are just around the corner. Lexington offers many beautiful venues for all types of events and we hope you ll think of us first when you begin planning your holiday parties! Chef s Tip of the Month: Taming Smelly Garlic Smash garlic cloves inside a resealable plastic bag using the back of a knife. Having the bag as a barrier will prevent your cutting board and knife from smelling like garlic. Best Night of the Week Make Lexington part of your weekly routine with these great theme nights.
