Doug Peterson - Treasurer From the Treasurer---Before we get too far into what happened early last month (Spring Fling), or what will happen later next month (Member/Guest), let s get to what happened this past week when Cecil Woods defeated Aaron Esparza in the President s Cup finals. In a hard fought match that came down to the last hole, Cecil gained the victory for the second year in a row. While giving strokes sometimes too many to his opponents, his ability to turn par 5 s into par 4 s and get up and down from almost anywhere, make him a formidable player and a most worthy President s Cup champion. Congratulations Cecil! Could a three-peat be in the cards next year? Using Cecil as our tie in for the Spring Fling is easy because his team s Thursday score in the 4 man-1,2,3, was quite impressive as they bettered the field by 11 strokes. With help from Frosty, Jim Vasquez, and Troy Erskine, their team also came in second in Friday s Shamble format and obviously took the overall two day money quite easily. In total, almost $4K was handed out to winners of various degrees, with Pat Canty and Tom Drew (a member from our Imperial days) getting multiple skins and CP s to line their pockets for the ride home. Rhonda and Jim s ride home must have been pleasant too as they talked about the success of their teams and monies won., as could Don Crooker, Bob Briggs and Johnnie Jones who helped Pat out for team money on Thursday. And, if virtually every player in the field winning some piece of the prize pot sounds pretty boring, there was a bit of drama connected with Ron Gross team. It seems with the second day format of every player having to use at least two drives throughout the round, Ron had two holes to go and still needed one more drive, Would it be on the par 3, 17 th hole which is short, but difficult because it s just tee box, lake, and a postage stamp green or the 18 th hole, a 515 yard, uphill par 5? He didn t want to go into the last hole forced to use his drive wherever it was he needed to find dry land on 17...not an easy task under the circumstances. Hitting first, his ball barely crossed the lake but landed pin high, 10 feet off the green left. From there, two putts for par and now off to the 18 th. With the team drive requirement no longer an issue, Ron s playing partners Harry Harrison, pared the hole with a stroke and Tom Miles birdied the hole with a stroke, thus picking up 3 strokes on the last hole all because Ron found anything but water on the previous hole. And to top it all off, the team won that day by three strokes all gained on the last hole. Thanks gentlemen. It was fun. Now to the Member/Guest (sorry it took so long) which takes place on July 23 rd. The flier accompanies this Birdie and can be found on the website. The step aside format is designed as an enjoyable and different hit it, find it, and hit it again experience with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start. A chance at week in Cabo San Lucas will be part of the festivities so get that ringer and enter the fray. We continue to be solvent so there may be some extra funds for the winners of that fray. The countdown to Laughlin has started Oct. 21 and 22. Will you be there? 4

Mark Gallant - Vice President June Already! The summer is finally here! Which means long and hot days for golf and the 2016 Member Guest. The format will be the same as last year, 3 Man Step Aside. The Member Guest is on July 23rd, so get your team together and bring out your friends to enjoy the day of golf, drinking, and having some fun! Rule question of the month. The first one to email me (gallantmm@me.com) with the correct answer, I will buy you a drink. When dropping a ball you must re-drop if the ball rolls and comes to rest more than; A. One club length from where it first strikes the ground. B. Two club length from where it first strikes the ground. C. Three club length from where it first strikes the ground. Tim Devaney - Past President After the long layoff the greens are starting to regain their old form. They are beginning to pick up speed again. It is nice not having to putt on velcro and containing your distain for a putt left 1 foot short. But then again some would not make that putt no matter how fast the greens are running. It constantly amazes me that the degree the golf course has embraced our golf association and the ammenities that surrond us again.this course needs to start growing with the 40 plus age group and younger to keep to keep our association strong. The 60 plus group is growing but their choices are many and varied. To keep them active with us and encourage involvement of the millenniums new ideas and recruitment are critical. Spread the word as the second half the year is upon us and many tournaments are ahead. Bring your friends and encourage play from the regulars. If you have ideas share them. If any of you have friends, share them too. This last year we had an influx of new members and their play was evident early in the year, but not so much now.i know you can bring a horse to water so we fill the trough with beer? There are discussions and its our job to keep the growth we saw at the beginning of the year flowing the whole year. 6
