LORDS OF THE SKY by DAN HAMPTON Book Review by Lynn Petty In the January Issue I gave a book review of Tanker Pilot which is a really good book that gives you pause on the importance of refueling a/c. I swapped books with a friend of mine and just completed reading Lord of the Sky which I found equally as good! Witten as the cover says by the author of Viper Pilot, Dan Hampton knows his subject as he is a F16 master. Like the cover says the time period covered is WW1 Thru the second Gulf War. Rather than just wrote about things from the fighter pilot view Mr. Hampton has done a masterful job of weaving together a chronological view that ties in the technological developments that go with fighter aircraft, the concurrent status of the ground battle, and the training methods and their impact on the quality of pilots at the front. This is second book in recent times for me that I found hard to put down. You ca get the paperback for around $10 with the hardcover not much more. Recommended! 6 2

From David Beckman David Beckman reports his son has gotten back into figures recently. Here's some pictures of the guys from the old Tamiya Pz II kit. Dave s pretty proud of him and with reason! His name is Paul Beckmann. He used to paint figures when he was younger, inspired by some figures that a pro-builder friend of Dave s would send now and then. He has recently been hit with the nostalgia - thanks to his dad's influence! :-) He's using Vallejo because they have specific colours for his project. He's also mixing his own dark wash and still learning how to dry brush. Paul s hoping that his dad will finish his Pzkw II so they can do a diorama together. 12 12

Good afternoon Mr. Petty, I'm Jim Rogers, half of a new injection molded plastic model kit company Salvinos J R Models and we are releasing our first kit soon. Buddy Baker's 1980 Oldsmobile 442 in 1/25th scale. We are currently signing dealers as well as taking retail pre-orders for our kit and it occurred to us that we should introduce ourselves to IPMS clubs like yours. We are not trying to sell to the clubs directly, we are just hoping that the clubs could share the attached flyer with their yours builder members who then can ask their favorite local shop to carry it. The 128 piece kit will be produced in Southern California, and include Cartograf decals and you can see what our sample looks like on the attached flyer. We would greatly appreciate any help we can get from clubs to make this a success allowing us to make more and other kits. Thank you for your time, Jim Rogers 14
