the April 2010 Village Green Newsletter We had a beautiful Spring day for Village Green s Easter egg hunt. Over forty neighborhood children and some guests participated in the annual event. The VGHA provided lemonade and Easter Egg Hunt the children delivered their full baskets to the Easter Bunny to receive a prize. By the looks of it, all the children and parents left happy. 2010 Board of Directors President Bob Hunter 966-3305 Vice President John-Paul Renier 966-3139 Secretary Alex Cruikshank 675-1576 Treasurer Bobby Arthur 599-5965 Assesments Michelle Stockdale 966-4190 Buildings & Grounds Tim Doyle 675-4425 Pools - Clubhouse Jim Jameson 777-3926 Pools - Monticello Eddie Wysmirsky 288-0166 Social & Community, Greeters, Clubhouse Amanda Metzelder 406-3810 Winfried Neal and the Easter Bunny (Audrey Gibson) Photo: Amanda Metzelder cookies, which were decorated by the children. Then the kids were separated by age group to search different sections of the Clubhouse grounds. Once released, they retrieved hundreds of prize-filled eggs in just a few minutes. Afterwards, We have had several more reports of peddlers going door-to-door and using some aggressive sales tactics. Village Green is a posted No Soliciting neighborhood. Peddlers are also required to have permits issued by both Knox County and the town of Farragut. According to John-Paul Renier, who contacted Mark Shipley at Farragut Town Hall, no permits have been issued this year. It is very likely that these people are breaking the law and subject to fines. The No Soliciting This year s hunt was organized by Amanda Metzelder with help from Kathleen Bloom, Leigh Pearson, and Madeline and Audrey Gibson as the Easter Bunny. Thanks to all of them for making this event a success. peddlers are not dangerous, but they can be threatening and can use this advantage to force a sale. Even if you aren t particularly bothered by peddlers, remember some of your neighbors might lack the confidence to say no. If a peddler (and, of course, we exclude Girl Scouts and other children s fundraisers from that definition) comes to your door or you see someone going door-to-door, please contact John-Paul Renier at 966-3139 immediately. D.A.T. Reminder The Dogwood Arts Trail is running through Village Green throughout the month of April. If you were waiting for an excuse to get out in your garden, how about busloads of people looking at your landscaping? Sheila, Becky and Sadie Bruner take a break from gardening. The trail runs April 7 th through the 25 th. Bus tours will be in the neighborhood the weekend of the 10th. You can check out the entire route on our Web site or just follow the pink dotted line that probably runs past your driveway. Village Green Bookclub The Village Green Book Club was started by Jennifer Arthur in October of 2008 to provide an opportunity for residents with a love of reading to get together and discuss current litterature. The club meets once a month (usually the 3rd Thursday) at the home of one of the bookclub members, where the book selected the previous month is discussed. Participants are encouraged to have read part of the book, but are not required to have finished it. This month, the Book Club will convene at Courney Rima s house April 22 nd at 7:00 p.m. to discuss Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India, and Indonesia by Elizabeth Gilbert. The VG B o o k Club is a l w a y s open to new members. For more informat i o n, p l e a s e contact Julienne Weathers at 777-1180. Attn. Lifeguards Village Green will be taking applications for lifeguards on April 10 th, 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at the South Monticello Pool. Applicants must be at least 15 years old, and they must have completed lifeguard and CPR training and testing by the American Red Cross. Applicants need to bring copies of their certifications, driver's license, and social security card or birth certificate. Welcome Greetings to new residents Martin and Jenny Williamson, and their sons, Tom (age 4) and Nate (age 2), who have just moved to 341 Russfield Drive. Kent, Karen, Kade, and Kolby Leach tackle some unruly shrubs.

The Village Green Pools are scheduled to open on Friday May the 21st. However, the Monticello pool will close Saturday evening, May 22nd at 5:00pm for the VG BBQ at the Clubhouse pool. Both pools will be open Memorial Day weekend (Saturday - Monday) from 12:30 to 8:30 p.m. We will continue, as in years past, opening the clubhouse pool at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We will install a lane rope on the pump-house side of the pool at the Monticello pool from 12:30-1:30 p.m. and 6:00-7:00 p.m. daily for lap swim. Lifeguards may close the pools ten minutes every hour on the hour for lifeguard breaks (adult swim). No children under 18 years of age may swim during these break periods. The pools will not be closed for a dinner break. Pools Opening Shawn Raines is the pool manager this year. He will be responsible for day-today operations of the pools including lifeguards, scheduling pool parties, swim lessons and other events. Shawn may be reached by cell phone at (865) 671-2552 or home phone (865) 671-2552. Many lifeguards will be returning from last year and several new lifeguards will be joining the team. All are required to receive lifeguard and CPR training and testing by the American Red Cross to work at Village Green pools. Swimming pool and lifeguard regulations have been updated this year and can be read in their entirety on the V i l l a g e G r e e n We b s i t e a t http://villagegreenweb.com. Below are some important reminders about the swimming pool regulations. Everyone must sign in so that the lifeguards will have emergency contact information if needed. Children age 8 and over must demonstrate ability to a lifeguard by swimming the length of the pool before swimming unaccompanied. Parents or guardians are responsible for the conduct of their children. The pool may be closed due to inclement weather at the discretion of the lifeguard. We look forward to another fun, safe summer at the Village Green pools! Swim Team registration will be held on Saturday, April 10 th from 8 a.m. to 12 noon at the Village Green clubhouse. A support group f o r V i l l a g e Green residents and others caring for a loved one with Alzheimer s disease meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. A few months ago, our group adopted a meeting schedule alternating between meeting at the V.G. Clubhouse and meeting at an area restaurant. April s meeting on the 6 th Alzheimer s Support Group will be at Calhoun s Turkey Creek. The May 4 meeting will be at the Clubhouse, and the June 2 nd meeting will be at a restaurant TBA. Clubhouse meetings give participants an opportunity to discuss challenges they face in caring for their loved ones and to learn how others have coped with similar issues. Advertisements The dinner meetings provide socialization and a needed break from care-giving duties. We are small in number with both men and women participants in various stages of their care-giving journey. We are very open to newcomers in our group. Questions?
