Training Programs The is pleased to announce a series of new training programs for the 2017/18 winter, spring and summer seasons. There will be two levels of training: The NSW 29er Development Squad The NSW 29er Skiff Skills Program Introduction The NSW 29er Development Squad is a endorsed development program to provide competent 29er sailors with high quality coaching and skill development. It is for experienced 29er sailors who wish to develop their skills to be competitive at club, State and National level competition. The NSW 29er Skiff Skills Program is a NSW 29er Association endorsed coaching program to provide new 29er and less experienced 29er sailors with professional coaching aimed at developing the skills specific to sailing and racing skiffs and in particular, 29ers. NSW 29er Development Squad Objectives The objectives of the NSW 29er Development Squad are to: 1. Develop the skills of experienced sailors to help them succeed at club, state and national level competition 2. Achieve selection into the NSW Youth Sailing Team 3. Provide a pathway for skill development in the absence of an established 29er club structure 4. Set examples and inspire younger 29er sailors The NSW 29er Development Squad provides squad based coaching support for appropriately skilled but developing sailors. Structure Coaching will be conducted by 9er Association endorsed Coaches to ensure high quality coaching for all sailors under the program in order to develop skills required to be competitive at Club, State and National levels. Coaching will be in groups of 5 boats with coaching week-on, week-off and with club racing on the intervening weeks. Should more than 5 boats apply selections may be required to determine the makeup of the squad. Should 9-10 boats apply consideration will be given to creating a second squad and adding a second coach. Sailors will be expected to commit to all coaching and club racing sessions as per the Development Squad Calendar. Commitment and dedication to training and learning are essential for success in this program. Sailors will need to financial member of a registered sailing club and a financial member of the NSW & ACT 9er association. Training and club racing will be on Sundays. Coaching will generally run from 10:00am 3:00pm in winter and 11:00am - 4:00pm in spring/summer. Participants must be rigged and ready to sail at 10:00am sharp. Timing may vary subject to weather forecasts and the coaching program. Coaching will generally be broken into 2 x on water sessions of 120 mins plus briefings and a break for lunch. Lunch is not provided and participants are expected to bring their own food and water. All participants must be prepared to travel as the location will rotate between clubs across the season. Cost The cost per participant i.e. the skipper and crew for the NSW 29er Development Squad is $900 ($1,800 per boat). This covers coaching (20 sessions) and coaching RIB hire & fuel. This does not include regatta support or participation in a holiday camp should one be organised. All participants will receive a NSW 29er Development Squad T-shirt. Page 2

NSW 29er Skiff Skills Program Objectives The objectives of the NSW 29er Skiff Skills Program are to: 1. Develop the skills necessary to be a competent skiff and 29er sailor 2. Achieve selection into the NSW 29er Development Squad 3. Provide a pathway for sailors transitioning from other classes and for skill development in the absence of an established 29er club structure 4. Set examples and inspire younger 29er sailors to try skiff sailing The NSW 29er Skiff Skills Program provides squad based coaching in Association chartered boats. Sailors are expected to participate and learn the skills necessary to be both a skipper and a crew across a range of conditions on a rotational basis. Structure Coaching will be conducted by 29er Association endorsed Coaches to ensure high quality coaching for all sailors under the program in order to develop skills required to be a competent 29er or skiff sailor. Coaching will be in groups of 10 participants rotating through 2 x association chartered boats. Participants do not need to own a boat but boat ownership will be encouraged. The Skiff Skills Program will run over 10 sessions held on Saturdays. There will be two intakes, winter and spring: Skiff Skills Intake 1 Winter 6 May 8 July 2017 Skiff Skills Intake 2 Spring 2 September 4 November 2017 For participants who successfully complete the Skiff Skills Program and, subject to meeting the required standard, may be invited to join a NSW 29er Development Squad. All Skiff Skills Program sessions will be held at Hunters Hill Sailing Club on Saturdays from 12:00pm 4:30pm. Participants should arrive early and be ready to commence at 12:00 sharp. Participants must bring their own life jacket, wetsuit, gloves, booties etc. Trapeze harnesses will be provided but aspiring 29er crews will be encouraged to buy their own. Sailors will be expected to commit to all coaching sessions as per the Skiff Skills Program Calendar. Commitment and dedication to training and learning are essential for success in this program. Coaching will generally be broken into on water sessions plus briefings with all sailors either sailing a 29er or on the coach RIB. Lunch is not provided and participants are expected to bring their own food and water. Page 6
Cost The cost per participant for the NSW 29er Skiff Skills Program is $375. This covers coaching (10 sessions), association boat charters and coaching RIB hire & fuel. All participants will receive a NSW 29er Skiff Skills T-shirt. Applications Applications must be received by Friday 21 April 2017. One application per sailor. Generally places in the Program will be allocated on a first in best dressed policy. For Safety and quality purposes only 10 participants can be accepted per Program intake.
