Holmfirth Harriers Triathlon Super Harriers! In July we hosted our very first junior triathlon in Holmfirth. We had maximum participation and the event was a huge success (much to my relief). This was down to a team effort on the day from many mums, dads, grandparents and friends for helping out. The children were all wonderful, mostly sorting themselves out as (we were a little busy) and behaved spectacularly well as we have come to expect, well done all! NEWS Hetton Lyons Tri 17th July Just a few juniors went to Hetton Lyons Country Park in Sunderland to take part in an event outside of our region (north east). This was a rare opportunity to swim in an open water event with full distances in each age group. Reports back from the children were that the water was full of weeds and quite scary, but they all managed to put on great performances. Tristar 2's Lucy & Erica Byram were in the water first, in a rather large field including the boys of 33 competitors. The girls cycled and ran very well and with a sprint finish Lucy took 3rd place girl and Erica after a difficult swim took 5th. Tri Handbook The triathlon handbook is still available to download from the tri section of the new web site. Or you can pick up your copy from the tri notice board at the club. Tristar 3's were next with Lewis Byram, Lucy Farquhar and Sophie Williams. Lucy had a fantastic swim and was 1st girl out of the water. She held on to the lead with an excellent bike leg and with the final run with competitors closing managed to hold on by a comfortable margin and claimed 1st place. Lewis had a good race overall and managed to finish 3rd boy, 1st was a boy at the top of the age group and 2nd was the boy who won the TS2 IRC's last year, so excellent effort to come from behind after the swim and bike to an excellent run and fastest of the day. He is now determined to work on his swimming more! Sophie put in a huge performance after a difficult swim, had a really good bike and run to finish to much applause, an excellent achievement and finished 5th.
