What s happening in the School of Education SCCTM Dr. Gwen Johnson and Ms. Gloria Allen each received the Outstanding Contribution to Mathematics Education Award for 2018. This is the highest honor from SCCTM recognizing high impact and longevity of service to our state. Dawn Bryant, SOE Alum, received a $500 SCCTM Classroom Grant for math materials including fraction tiles. SOE Communiqué January 2019 5
SCCTM (cont.) Thirteen education majors participated in the 2018 Annual Conference of the SC Council of Teachers of Mathematics in Columbia, SC on November 15 and 16. Presentations: Sarah Moore and Natalie Hornsby, Secondary Math Education majors co-presented a session for future math teachers. They facilitated a discussion with around 25 college students from around the state. Elementary and Middle Level Education majors presented their research on Interdisciplinary Learning Centers in a poster session. Congratulations to Xiomarra Beverly, Jasmine Edwards, Kayla Marshall, Ayanna Brown, Hannah Dykes, and Ashley Shelton for showcasing their research for teachers across our state. What s happening in the School of Education Opportunity for free professional development on teaching the Holocaust! Please consider attending one or both upcoming professional development sessions for teaching about the Holocaust. The sessions will be offered, free of charge, to teachers, pre-service teachers, and professors by the USC Shoah Foundation in California. Both sessions will be offered at Aiken High School. Registration is limited to the first 25 participants. The registration links are below.
