Safe Routes to School programs are sustained efforts by parents, schools, community leaders and local, state, and federal governments to improve the health and well-being of children by enabling and encouraging them to walk and bicycle to school. National Center for Safe Routes to School

EGUSD Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Four year SRTS grant funded through Caltrans (grant end date: June 30, 2017) Non infrastructure focus 4 E s: E ducation E ncouragement E nforcement E valuation Provide input on the 5 th E (E ngineering) with multiple jurisdictions

SRTS E ducation Traffic Safety School safety maps for parents Slides for Back to School night presentations Bike Helmets 15 elementary schools established as Bike Helmet Safety Centers 11 elementary schools completed schoolwide, inclassroom, bicycle helmet safety education More than 9,500 free helmets distributed (UC/Davis & Kohl s partnership) Walking School Bus Training One hour presentation session with fingerprinting for volunteers Pedestrian safety education for students who participate in Walking School Buses
