CVAC NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER 2014 Notes From The General Manager Community Message from Ron Dear Club Members: It is with great pleasure that I am writing you this Community Message in my first monthly newslet ter. I am looking forward to meeting you and getting to know you all better. As you know, I have been on the other side (your side as a member) for the past 5 years and I am looking forward to working together with you and serving you. There are a lot of things to learn and get my hands around, but at the same time I feel confident that together we can assure a smooth transition. Please email me at Ron@CVAConline.com with your comments, suggestions, items you like, areas you would like to see improve ment on, and include any compliments you might have for the service or staff members you have interacted with. The same goes for the It s Your Point comment cards, which are located across the towel rack right outside my office. Please use these cards to share your feedback, including any service or staff recognition. This will help me formulate a plan for the months and years to come. We have a busy September ahead of us with many outstand ing activities scheduled that you do not want to miss, so I hope you will mark your calendar now! Please read the entire newsletter to view the many various activities available to you. New Member Orientation Friday, September 5th What perfect timing this is a wonderful opportunity for me to meet many of our new members and get to know each of you. I would love to hear from you on how your first few weeks or months have been at CVAC. I also hope many of our regular members will come out to meet many of our new members and create a wonderful CVAC community. Tennis Club Championship September 6th/7th and 13th/14th Our Tennis Director, Mike Zury, did a great job last year in bringing back our annual club championship and breaking it into various playing level flights which made it fun for everyone, including yours truly, winning the B-Divisions singles title. I know this year will be a very difficult time for me to defend my title because the competition is getting fierce. I hope you will come out and participate in some fun and friendly tennis competition, or just come on out to cheer on your fellow tennis friends and make it a fun community event. Chef Moises will also be providing a great and tasty lunch. 21st CVCC Chili Cook-off & Margarita Contest Wednesday, September 17th The Carmel Valley Chamber of Commerce is holding its annual chili cook-off and margarita contest on Wednesday, September 17th at 5pm at River Ranch at Carmel Valley Ranch. This year we have entered CVAC and Chef Moises to this annual community event. We hope all our CVAC members will come out and support Chef Moises and assure we come home with the winning blue ribbon for CVAC. This is a great opportunity to show all our support for the Carmel Valley community as all proceeds will benefit the Carmel Valley Chamber of Commerce and at the same time it will be a great opportunity for all our members to spend a beautiful evening together under the Carmel Moon. Please find attached the link for more information. http://members.carmelvalleychamber.com/events/details/21st-annual-chili-cook-off-1837 CVAC Café Over the last few months I have heard from many of you on how wonderful of a job Chef Moises has been doing and how great his food tastes. Chef Moises also has continued to stay fresh and innovative by creating tasty evening specials. Please continue to support our Café and Chef Moises to assure he continues his programs successfully. If you have any comments or suggestions please let me know. Although school has started for many of our junior members, September and October still brings some wonderful weather. I hope to see many families out over the weekend and I look forward to meeting many of you soon. See you at the Club with healthy wishes, Ron Haas General Manager

CVAC NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER 2014 Notes From Fitness September Fitness Tip THE IMPORTANCE OF RESISTANCE TRAINGING Megan Canning Fitness Director Did you know that at age 50 our total muscle mass is about 70 percent of that at age 30, and by age 80 half of our peak muscle mass is lost? Total body weight remains constant as loss of muscle is replaced by even more fat. This means if your weight has remained totally constant for decades, you will have proportionally more fat at age 60 than you did at 25. Plus muscle loss leads to overall weakness, weak bones and osteoporosis. Weak muscles together with alterations in our joints, ligaments and tendons as we age contribute to difficulties with balance and can lead to injury. The solution? Include resistance training into your fitness routine at least twice a week. If you haven t already, try working with one of our world class personal trainers or attend one of our resistance training group fitness class, such as Fit Express or Bodypump. New Class Time QIGONG Taught by Indigo Mondays 4:00 pm in the Mind Body Center Tuesday 11:00 am by the Bocce Ball Court Learn exercises that enhance your perception of energy and feel the chi running through and around your body.
