Blue Jays No. 3 prospect Lourdes Gurriel hit his first Double-A home run - a two-run blast in the ninth inning - to power a late comeback, but Portland hung on after a game-ending fly out from Richard Urena. Gurriel's homer made it 6-3, and an RBI triple from Jonathan Davis brought New Hampshire within two runs. At 2-for-4, Gurriel was New Hampshire's lone batter with more than one hit, and also recorded his first Double-A stolen base in the fourth inning. Fisher Cats starter Sean Reid-Foley (L, 7-8), allowed just two singles and a walk over his final four innings, but Portland's six-run outburst made the difference in the first two frames. The first three batters of the game reached for the Sea Dogs on a single and two walks, and Jeremy Barfield started the scoring with a sacrifice fly. He would later make it 6-0 with a three-run homer in the second inning, his fourth consecutive game with a long ball. Danny Jansen got New Hampshire on the board with an RBI single in the fourth inning to make it 6-1, but Jacob Dahlstrandheld the Fisher Cats to just one hit in three strong innings of relief. Former Red Sox first round pick Henry Owens (W, 2-3) held the Fisher Cats to one run on three hits with three walks and five strikeouts in five innings. Since then, Binghamton has twice visited Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. The Cats are 5-9 against the Ponies in 2017. LO KNOWS: Tim Lopes has taken his usual consistency to the next level of late. The Huntington Beach, California product has a hit in 12 of his last 13 games and has posted a.455 batting average (20-44) in that stretch. GOOD LOURDES: Lourdes Gurriel walloped a two-run home run in the ninth inning of last night s game, his first Double-A homer and the second of his affiliated baseball career The 73 rd -best prospect in the game according to Baseball America, Gurriel is in the midst of his first stateside campaign after signing a seven-year, $22 million dollar deal in November of 2016. The 23-year old Cuban played in the Cuban National Series for six seasons prior to defecting, where he posted a combined.277 batting average. He set personal bests in average (.344), hits (75), doubles (17), home runs (10) and runs (43) and RBI (53) in his final stint in Cuba while playing for the Havana Industriales during the 2015-16 season. ON THE HILL: #11 Blue Jays prospect (MLB.com) Conner Greene is back on the bump tonight with an opportunity to return to form after a series of disappointing starts. In his last turn on July 22 in Trenton, the Santa Monica, CA native lasted just a single frame and allowed three runs on three hits, walked two and struck out one. Weather was a factor in that game, though it came on the heels of an outing on July 17 against Reading where he lasted only 2.2 innings and allowed five runs on five hits with four walks. Greene who was picked up by the Blue Jays in the 7 th round of the 2013 draft out of Santa Monica High School has allowed an earned run in all but one of his 18 starts this season. Fellow Californian and big league rehabber Robert Gsellman will oppose Greene and toss one inning to start today s game for Binghamton. The RHP is making his way back from a hamstring injury that sent him to the DL on June 28. Prior to his injury, the 24-year old was 5-5 with a 6.16 ERA in 17 games (14 starts) for the Mets this season. Scheduled starter Casey Delgado will take over for Gsellman in the second inning. A native of Miami, FL, the right-hander got the loss in his last start on July 22 in Harrisburg, when he allowed six runs on seven hits over four frames. Delgado is 2-1 with a 5.40 ERA in three starts against the Fisher Cats this season. On Wednesday, prior to their game at Miller Park against the Brewers and less than 14 hours after recording his first major-league hit, rookie outfielder Anthony Alford was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a fractured left hamate bone in his wrist. The injury occurred on a foul ball in the ninth inning, a 2-1 pitch, after which he struck out swinging. Alford heard and felt a pop in his wrist on the strike-two swing against Neftali Feliz but he finished the game, one in which he the 22-year-old, as a pinch-hitter for pitcher Danny Barnes in the seventh inning, had ripped a hard double off the centre-field wall for his first big-league hit. After the game, Alford received treatment and the Blue Jays training staff took him for x-rays that revealed the fractured wrist.
