The Hawks will take on the University of Michigan-Dearborn on Friday before closing out the Classic on Saturday with a date against Logan Chiropractic. The Hawks are 3-0 for the second time in head coach Chad Warner s threeyear tenure, having opened the 2007 season, Warner s first at the helm, with three straight wins before falling 70-67 at Oakwood to end the streak. Shorter is coming off an 86-59 win at Truett-McConnell College on Monday, a game that saw 14 Hawks see action. Sophomore Corey Edmondson shot 7 of 8 from the field and 2 for 2 from three-point land to lead the Hawks with a careerhigh 19 points in 23 minutes. Jerrenda Wheeler, who leads Shorter in both scoring and assists, added 15 points and eight helpers to go along with five boards. Montagious Brown turned in his third consecutive double figure scoring performance with 12, Ziyadah Carter chipped in a season-high 11 points and Marqise Wright continued to clean the glass with a game-high 11 rebounds. The Hawks Friday opponent, Michigan-Dearborn, are members of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. The Wolves are 1-1 thus far in 2009-10 and enter Friday s contest having topped perennial power Lindsey Wilson College, 92-90, on the road. The Wolves boast two, 20-plus point scorers in Matt Ponik (21.5 ppg) and Nicholas Simpson (21.0). Simpson is shooting 94.7 percent (18-19) from the line. Leading the way has been senior center Jamie Walker, who is averaging 9.7 points and 5.3 rebounds in 18.0 minutes per game. The 6-9 captain stared the year off with a pair of double figure scoring games in the Shorter College Tip-Off Classic, posting 13 and 10 points in wins over Milligan College and Reinhardt College, respectively. Redshirt sophomore Corey Edmondson enters the Trevecca Classic after pouring in a career-high 19 points on 7 of 8 shooting in a win over Truett-McConnell on Monday night. Edmondson, a local Rome product, is shooting 64.3 percent and has made all three of his three-point attempts. Also turning in quality minutes is true freshman point guard Xavier Chargois, who is putting up 3.3 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. WHAT CAN BROWN DO FOR YOU? Hawks junior forward Montagious Brown has been nothing short of brilliant for Shorter College head coach Chad Warner through the first three games of the season. The Union City, Ga., native is averaging 13.7 points and 4.0 rebounds per game, including a career-high 19-point performance in Shorter s 78-65 win over Reinhardt College last Saturday night at the Winthrop-King Centre. Brown, who came into the season averaging just over four points for his career, has found his niche is Warner s UCLA-style half court offense and in the Hawks much improved transition game. Brown is being selective from the floor, knocking down 18 of 31 field goal attempts, and is also playing well on the defensive end of the floor, leading the Hawks in steals with five. THE POINT OF ATTACK Senior transfer Jerrenda Wheeler has been as good as advertised at the point guard slot thus far in the 2009-10 season. The Gainesville, Ga., product is leading the Hawks in scoring at 16.3 points per game and also ranks 15th in the NAIA in assists per game (5.7). Wheeler, who starred for Crichton College last season, is shooting a blistering 62.1 percent from the floor and 42.9 percent from beyond the arc. FEELS SO WRIGHT Junior forward Marqise Wright has been giving opposing teams fits with his spirited play in the Hawks first three games. Although Wright had his string of two straight double-doubles snapped in the win over Truett-McConnell, the 6-6 inside-out threat still snagged a game-high 11 rebounds - his third double digit rebound performance in as many games. For the season, Wright is averaging 15.0 points and 10.7 rebounds and ranks third in all of the NAIA in defensive rebounds per game, snaring 9.0 per outing. Wright s rebounding average is good enough for 11th best in the country. PART OF HISTORY Combined with the Shorter men and women s cross country teams, men and women s soccer squads, football team, volleyball team and women s basketball team, the basketball Hawks three wins to open the season meant that Shorter went 14-0 in athletic competition from Nov. 6 through Nov. 9.

Shorter Men s Basketball Game Notes, Page 3 Numerical Roster HEAD COACH CHAD WARNER Rome native Chad Warner returns for his third season as head coach of the Shorter College men s basketball program. With 34 wins in his first two seasons at the helm, Warner s Hawks have posted the best consecutive season win total in 42 years, when Shorter went 24-6 and 22-9 in 1965-66 and 1966-67, respectively. Shorter advanced to the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals in Warner s first season and last year, posted a 10-8 record in league play, good enough for a No. 4 seed and the best SSAC finish in program history. Warner came to Shorter in 2008 from Hampden- Sydney College in Virginia, one of NCAA Division III s most successful basketball programs, where he served as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. At Hampden-Sydney, Warner was involved in all aspects of the program, including recruiting, strength and conditioning, scouting and player development. Warner helped guide the 2006-07 Tigers to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference championship, the school s tenth conference title and seventh in the previous 11 years, with a 77-62 win over rival Roanoke College. That year, Hampden-Sydney advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III National Basketball Tournament. His previous coaching experience includes two years as an assistant coach at The College of William & Mary under accomplished head coach Tony Shaver and a previous stint at Hampden-Sydney in 2003-04, when the team ascended to the national No. 1 ranking and captured yet another Old Dominion Athletic Conference championship. Warner spent the 2002-03 season as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, the University of Georgia, under legendary head coach Jim Harrick. He spent the previous four years as associate head basketball coach at the Darlington School in Rome. Warner graduated from the University of Georgia in 1998 with a Bachelor s degree in Public Relations. At UGA, Warner played basketball for head coach Hugh Durham. Warner and his wife, Karin, have two children, Aly (3) and Caroline (2). The Warners are expecting a third child, Jack, in February. No. Name Pos. Ht. Wt. Yr.
