MORE ON THE MATCHUP BACK TO THE OL STOMPING GROUNDS Head John Becker is returning to his old stomping grounds during th current threegame Washington D.C.road trip. UVM s sideline mastermind graduated from Division III Catholic University in 1990 and earned his graduate degree from George Washington in 2001. During his undergrad, he played under Jack Bruen, who later guided the Colgate Red Raiders to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 1995 and 1996. Becker started his coaching career at Gallaudet as an assistant coach in 1994. He served the role for three seasons before inheriting the reigns in 1997 and was the head coach for two seasons. After Gallaudet, he returned to his alma mater as an assistant coach from 2004-06 then moved to Catamount Country. ISLANDS OF THE BAHAMAS SHOWCASE: YEAR 1 AND 2 Towson played in the second annual Islands of the Bahamas Showcase in Nassau two weeks ago, the same tournament that Vermont won last year. The Catamounts beat Bradley in the tournament opener 65-64 after Trae Bell-Haynes hit the eventual game-winning free throw in the final seconds. UVM handled Coastal Carolina 80-67 in the semifinal round before taking on eventual Horizon League regular season champion Northern Kentucky in the championship game. UVM beat NKU 66-64 after Bell-Haynes provided more heroics with the game-winning teardrop with three seconds left in the games. He was also honored with tournament MVP honors and Ernie Duncan made the All-Tournament Team.
