Words from the Editor August 31, 2018 WOW everyone what a fantastic District Convention. This bulletin is a little early as I wanted to get the highlights to you. The Lebanon Optimist Club members were awesome hosts. This club is going and growing, we took notes and are planning on following there lead in Gresham. The activities were wonderful, Jazz Orchestra, wonderful BBQ with string band and tour of the Gazebo presented to the city, dancing, really fun train ride, super training from TG Thomas our VP Elect. Of the West Coast Region. The training was concise to the point and very informative. I have always enjoyed TGs info and the fun part is he is difficult to sidetrack, Ha Ha. I will put all photos together. If you have never heard Glenda Standeven speak and her jokes, you have really missed out. Glenda is the incoming president of Chilliwack. When you listen to this wonderful beautiful lady give her presentation on determination and perseverance. The words woe is me will disappear from your vocabulary. She told us that one of her goals is to be able to dance; I know she will make it. Glenda is also a recognized Author. Please go to www.glendastandeven..com. We really missed Gary Smith Lt. Governor but when you are in the hospital it can change your plans (boy can I relate to that) that diabetes stuff can put a knot in your knickers. However Gary was admitted for Congestive Heart Failure and fluid on his
lungs (been there done that, no T shirt) and shortness of breath, it was discovered that Gary has a leaky heart valve and will have open heart surgery in a few months (been there too) good luck and all our best Gary. On a lighter note his preregistration for convention was refunded This last weekend was the Vancouver USA Clubs Annual campout, many clubs were represented. Be sure and make your plans for next year. Much fun and frivolity and food was had by all. I ve never seen a bat box before. Steve Enyeart and Bob LaDu have done wonders with the upkeep on the park. Boise Optimist Footballl starts on September 8 th and goes for 8 weeks. They have a 52 acre site with 2 concession stands and 16 football fields having both flag football for 6-7 yr. olds and tackle for 8-12 yr. olds. The club also has an upcoming project called Rake-up Boise and heree is the website to explain. https://nwboise.org/rake-up-boise/ good job folks. The Twin Falls club is sure doing gobs of things in their community. Make a Wish, Scramble for Books, Wings and Things fundraiser, donation to St. Luke s Foundation for Stop the Bleed. Robin Stanhope s report on the health of the District is that we have added 79 new members. The 2 top Clubs with 11 new
