Coös County 4-H Demonstration Day Saturday, March 28, 2015 Lancaster School Start time is 9:00am If your club hasn t been involved in Demonstration Day, it is something you should really consider. It represents a wonderful opportunity for youth to gain experience presenting in a public speaking exercise or express themselves through the poster or photography contest. Plus, it is really fun. One of the purposes of the day is to select those 4-H members age 12 and older who will represent Coös County at State Activities Day, May 30. Organizational Leaders have received Demo Day information/rule packages in the mail. In the mean time you can get some tips from our website - http://extension.unh.edu/co%c3%b6s-county-4-h/2015- Co%C3%B6s-County-4-H-Demonstration-Day Working on a sewing, knitted or crocheted project? Coös County FASHION REVUE is the perfect opportunity to show it off! 4-H Fashion Revue & Fashion Selection garment judging is scheduled for Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 6:00pm. Entries are due March 6. TYPES OF PRESENTATIONS AT DEMO DAY: Action Exhibit Demonstration Illustrated Talk Public Speaking Photography Poster Fashion Revue (Sewing or Fashion Selection) NH 4-H Flix Video Contest Action Exhibit An action exhibit is an interactive presentation which involves the audience in the presentation process. Like a demonstration, in an action exhibit the 4-H members demonstrate a skill, show how to make or repair something, or they show how and why something works. Real objects are used. Unlike a demonstration, as the action exhibit presentation unfolds the audience asks questions and interacts with the presenter; the audience may even try the skill themselves. Because the whole process is shown, action exhibits may last up to 45 minutes each. Demonstration A demonstration shows how to make something, how to perform a skill, how to repair something, or how something works. In this method, the subject - animals, machine, clothing, musical instrument, or model - is used in the presentation. Illustrated Talk An illustrated talk communicates ideas with the aid of charts, posters, slides, flannel graph, or chalkboard. The object discussed is not used, only pictures, or other representation of it. Public Speaking This is a presentation of a speech written by the participant, given from memory, notes, or outline, using index cards as a possible aid. No visual or audio aids are used. Photography & Posters Design a creative poster or submit a photograph following contest directions. Fashion Revue Model garments that have been sewn, knitted, or crocheted by the 4- H'er. Garments are evaluated for quality of construction, fit, and appearance. *Sheep Leadline participants take notice why not show off your hard work at Demo Day and maybe even State Activities Day?!! Fashion Selections Youth model garments that have been purchased to meet a specific budget and wardrobe goals. Garments are evaluated for cost, fit, appearance, modeling, poise, communication skills and appropriateness of props and accessories. NH 4-H Flix Video Contest Create a 3-5 minute video on just about any subject, including a personal introduction video - tell us about yourself in the most creative way possible! Videos can include contestant s choice of music and video production techniques, including but not limited to; video footage, still photography, computer animation, stop motion animation, etc.

VOLUNTEER CERTIFICATION TRAINING for adults & older teens - June 6 & 7, 2015 If you re interested in the 4-H Shooting Sports project, then get out your calendar and save the weekend of June 6. This is when the New Hampshire 4-H Shooting Sports Program will host a workshop to certify volunteer leaders at the Barry Conservation 4-H Camp in Berlin. This training is designed for current 4-H volunteers as well as those who wish to become involved in the 4-H program. Shooting experience is not essential, but a willingness to learn about how to work effectively with youth is. Teen leaders 16 and older are welcome. Certified teen leaders must work under the direct supervision of a certified adult instructor. Folks from out-of-state are invited to attend as well. However, priority will be given to NH 4-H volunteers. The shooting sports project is a little bit different than most other 4-H projects because leaders must be officially certified before they can teach youth. During this weekend workshop leaders will be trained to teach in one discipline. Choose from archery, black powder, pistol, rifle, shotgun, advanced shotgun, or wildlife & hunting. Once enrolled as 4-H leaders, adults will be certified to teach their discipline to youth participating in a formal 4-H shooting sports program. All NH 4-H leaders must complete an orientation and background check before being officially enrolled. It is highly recommended that volunteers enroll with their local county office of UNHCE before attending this training. It is with great excitement that we introduce the 2015 NH 4-H Maker Challenge: Bottle Rockets! This year the 4-H Maker Challenge is to launch a rocket powered by water/air pressure and see how long it will stay in the air, with additional bonus seconds earned by landing in designated target zones. The challenge is open to all youth ages 8 18, 4-H members and non-members alike. This years event will be on Saturday, July 11 at The Holderness School, Plymouth, NH. check this website for more information - http://extension.unh.edu/science-literacy/2015-4-h- Maker-Challenge Registration Open May 1- June 15 To pre-register call (have payment ready) : 603-641-6060 or 603-447-3834 Contact claes.thelemarck@unh.edu 603-447-3834 with any questions. All sessions will be conducted in the 4-H way, learn by doing. There will be approximately 12 hours of discipline-specific instruction and 6 hours focusing on youth development and how to work effectively with youth. The registration fee is $45 for New Hampshire volunteers and $65 for those from other states. This includes food, lodging, and materials. We have received generous support for this training from the 4-H Foundation of New Hampshire, Monsanto, and Federal Cartridge. Additional scholarships may be available from county 4-H foundations. Contact Larry at 788-4961 larry.barker@unh.edu Or check out the NH 4-H Shooting Sports webpage for more information and registration details, registration is due before May 22.
