Mississippi Braves (32-26, 65-61) at Pensacola Blue Wahoos (33-26, 57-69) RHP Greg Ross (7-9, 3.98) vs RHP Barrett Astin (4-4, 4.66) Overall (65-61) 1st Half (33-35) 2nd Half (32-26) Game #127 August 27, 2015 Pensacola, FL Pensacola Bayfront Stadium TODAY S GAME: The M-Braves try to regain first place in the series finale at Pensacola Thursday night, sending right-hander Greg Ross to the mound against Wahoos lefthander Cody Reed. LAST TIME OUT: The Blue Wahoos drove in three runs without the benefit of a hit on two ground balls and a sacrifice line out, but the M-Braves offensive lull continued with just a run against starter Cody Reed. With the 3-1 win, Pensacola stole back first place, leading the division by a half-game over the Braves and a game over Mobile. Mississippi grabbed their only run in the sixth on back-to-back doubles by Kevin Ahrens and Rio Ruiz, at the time cutting the deficit to 2-1. Janas allowed just two runs, one earned, on five hits over six frames in the loss. SPRINT TO THE FINISH: The M-Braves loss Wednesday night put Pensacola atop the division by a half-game with 11 to play. Mobile beat Biloxi 4-3 in the ninth, pulling them to one game back. The BayBears and Blue Wahoos finish the regular season head-to-head at Bayfront Stadium. THE LONE RUN-GER: The M-Braves have played 8 contests to a 1-0 final score this season--5 against Pensacola, including Tuesday night--and are tied with the Blue Wahoos for the league lead. No other Southern League team has played more than four. Eight 1-0 finals (2012, 4-4) and five wins (2008, 5-1) are tied for the M-Braves team record in a season. EFFECTIVELY WILD: In August, the M-Braves pitching staff has averaged 4.79 walks per 9 innings (114 in 214.1 IP), the second highest rate in a month in team history behind April 2009 (5.41). Despite the free passes, the M-Braves are 13-11 in the month, as opposed to 9-11 in April 09. ROLLING DOWN THE RIO: In his last 21 games, Rio Ruiz is hitting.325 (25-77) with 6 doubles, a triple, two home runs. The 21-year-old is riding a season-high 11-game hit streak over which he s batting.357 (15-42). KING KANG AWAY FROM HOME: KD Kang is currently on a 28-game road on-base streak that started 6/21 at Tennessee, the final game of the first half. He s reached safely in every road game played in the second half, the longest streak this season in the Southern League. LANDONI LEADING THE LINEUP: Emerson Landoni has been a Mississippi Brave since 2012, but he had never hit leadoff in his double-a career until Tuesday 8/4. The M-Braves are 12-7 in games where Landoni leads off. WINNING THE CLOSE ONES: 15 of the M-Braves last 26 games have been decided by one run. The Braves have played 51 one-run games in 2015, going 29-22 in those contests. 28 of the Braves 57 total second half games have been decided by just one run, going 15-13. 16 of the team s last 23, and 21 of the last 30 have been decided by three runs or less, with the team going 16-14 over the span. SECOND HALF TEAM: The M-Braves have consistently been a second-half team through their 11-year history, posting a 365-399 (.478 win percentage) mark in the first half, compared to a 371-369 (.501 win percentage) in the second half. The Braves have finished with a better second-half record than first-half record for seven consecutive seasons, dating back to 2008. The Braves need just 2 more wins to eclipse their first half total of 33 in 2015.
