February 6, 2017 White House Genetics Show Pig Clinic in Warrensburg, MO on April 29, 2017. Registration form and details attached at the end of the newsletter. Project Update Shooting Sports-Shooting Sports Safety Training will be offered at the Extension Office on Feb.10 (6pm-9pm) & Feb. 11 (9am-12pm) and also on March 17 (6pm-9pm) & March 18 (9am-12pm)If this is your 1st year in shooting sports you can not shoot without attending this class (6 hours needed.) Please sign up for this class on 4-H online (740). Contact Lori Davis at shanekalynmom@gmail.com if you have questions. SMQA training-this is for anyone enrolled in an animal project, hams or bacon. The date has been set for March 16th at the Extension Office at 7:00pm. SMQA training needs to be done two years in a row and again when a member turns 14. It will be set up in stations. Parents if you can help run a station please let Sarah know. Please RSVP-snacks will be provided.(lists will be e-mailed to club leaders this week on who needs to take the training. If you can not make the date please call the Extension Office, other options are available.) Swine-In the Show Ring program will be held at the Missouri Pork Expo on Feb. 7. All details can be found at http:// www.mopork.com/events/missouri-pork-expo/ Production class meeting to pick pigs and weigh-in will be March 18th at the CYE grounds. (There is also a clean-up day scheduled for this day.) Youth Sheep & Goat Clinic in New Bloomfield, MO lead by Klarissa Minish on April 15, 2017. Flyer is attached at the end of the newsletter. Exploring the Treasures of 4-H-This project will be offered county wide at the Extension Office on February 18 & March 18 from 8:30am-11:30am. Please let Sarah know if you can attend. Horses-There will be a county wide horse meeting at the Extension Office next Monday night, February 6 from 6:30-9pm. There will be local horsemanship and trail clinic offered by the Mid-MO Saddle Club and Big Spring Busy Beaver on May 6, 2017. See attached flyer for details. County Happenings KTIS Dinner-Check with your club leader on times needed for clubs to help and how many pies are needed for March 4th at 8am-1pm at North Callaway High School. 2nd Annual Callaway County 4-H 5K Run/Walk-Steve Hartman has volunteered to organize our 4-H 5K run/walk in New Bloomfield on April 1, 2017. Please mark your calendars for this event. This is one of our large county fundraisers! This counts as community service for your member in good standing sheet if you would like to work at the event. Contact terrieculwell@gmail.com for more information. 4-H Day with the Kansas City Royals-Attention all Royals fans 4H day will be held on September 8, 2017. The Royals vs. Twins game will be $40 a ticket if signed up by April 15 or $60 a ticket if signed up by July 15. Ticket includes t-shirt and raffles. Form is attached at the bottom of the newsletter. 4-H Day with the Cardinals-Join us on May 20th, 2017 for the 16th annual 4-H Day with the Cardinals. Tickets for the game will be $25.00 each and includes a specially designed t-shirt. Tickets must be postmarked by April 10th, 2017. More information and order forms are attached at the end of the newsletter. State Happenings Shooting Sports Leader Certification Workshop-If you are interested in becoming a certified shooting sports leader there will be a workshop held in Clinton, MO at CampLifeChange on March 24-26. There is an $80 fee. The website is http://4h.missouri.edu/shooting-sports-events/ shooting-sports-leader-certification. State Meats Judging Contest-February 25 at UMC Eckles Hall, Meat Lab. There is a $20 per member fee. Please register for this event through 4-H online. The top senior team will advance to the national competition. Show Me Equine Summit Competitive Horse Judging 101-Join us on Friday, February 24, 2017 at the National Equestrian Center in Lake St. Louis. See attached flyer and registration form for more details. Save the Date! William Woods University is proud to host a riding clinic with noted/jumper trainer George H. Morris from 8am-5pm. He will also be speaking on Friday night. 4-H members can attend as auditors. E-mail Michele Smith at Michele.smith@williamwoods.edu for more information. 2017 Missouri 4-H Equine Tour-This clinic is headed to Oklahoma and Texas from May 22-28. This years tour has unique itinerary to help youth explore the diverse equine industry indigenous to the destinations. The tour will focus on the rodeo industry, tours of top quarter horse ranches, the Cowboy Hall of Fame, and visits to education institutions. The $600 tour fee includes bus transportations, tours, hotels, most meals, tour t- shirt, travel bag and other costs. Food security is the 2017 theme. Liberty Tree planting opportunities (20 trees) will be available Spring 2017 through the Missouri 4-H Foundation! MO 4-Hers can attend a Liberty Tree planting at the Missouri State Capitol on Fri., April 28, 2017. Callaway Youth Expo Clean Up/Work Days-The following dates have been set for clean up at Auxvasse. Reminder: youth need to participate in at least 2 work days to sell at the auction. March 18th 9am-12pm, April 22nd 9am-12pm, May 20th 9am-12pm, May 31st 6pm, June 24th 9am-12pm, June 29th 6pm-9pm, July 9th clean up after the expo. Please call in to the Extension Office with the dates you would like to work so we have workers on each day. Congratulations to the Callaway Youth Expo! They were nominated for the Prestigious Service Award for 2017 at the Kingdom of Callaway Supper.

16 th Annual 4-H Day with the St. Louis Cardinals Missouri and Illinois 4-H members, parents, volunteers and alumni will gather at Busch Stadium on Saturday, May 20, 2017 for the 16th annual 4-H Day with the Cardinals. The Cardinals will be playing the San Francisco Giants in a 6:15 p.m. game. Tickets for the game will be $25.00 each and includes a specially designed t-shirt featuring the 4-H Clover on the back and the Cardinals emblem on the front. 4-H members, leaders, alumni, and their families who purchase 4-H Day with the Cardinals tickets will have the opportunity to participate in a parade around the Busch Stadium outfield. Pre-game ceremonies will include a recitation of the 4-H pledge and ceremonial first pitches by an Illinois and Missouri 4-H member. As an added bonus the Cardinals give-away item for the game is a Cardinals pet bowl. The first 30,000 fans age 16 and older will receive this one-of-a-kind item. Tickets for the event must be ordered on the 4-H Day with the Cardinals order form. Ticket order forms are available at the University of Missouri Extension office, or on the web at www.mo4h.missouri.edu. Ticket orders must be postmarked by April 10, 2017. Tickets usually sell out before the order deadline so families are encouraged to order early. 4-H Clubs, counties, or groups of families who would like to be seated together must send their orders in the same envelope. Families can also participate in the 4-H Day with the Cardinals raffle to win prizes such as throwing out the first pitch, autographed baseballs, and tickets to other Cardinal baseball games. Funds raised through the raffle support Missouri and Illinois 4-H programs. 4-H Day with the Cardinals has raised almost $75,000.00 to support Missouri and Illinois 4-H programs in the first 15 years. 2017 4-H DAY WITH THE CARDINALS Saturday, May 20, 2017 4-H members, alumni, families and their friends are invited to join us for 4-H Day with the St. Louis Cardinals, Saturday, May 20. The Cardinals will be playing the San Francisco Giants in a 6:15 p.m. game in Busch Stadium. Prior to the game, 4-H members and their parents/leaders can take part in a parade around the ball field that s right, participants will actually get to go down on the field and march one time around the stadium behind their state or county 4-H banner. Also, everyone who orders a ticket on this form will receive a specially designed t-shirt featuring the 4-H and Cardinals logos to commemorate the day. Note: Groups of families or county groups that wish to sit together must send their orders in one package. Tickets usually sell out, so order early. Tickets and t-shirts will be mailed on May 8 You could throw out the first pitch of the game, get an autographed baseball, or win other great prizes! 4-H members who participate in the 4-H raffle will have a chance to be selected to throw out the first pitch, and other family members, alumni, and guests can win other great prizes. Your counselor knows that this type of exchange is not permitted. We also ask that you think about the emails, IMs and comments on social networking sites that you may share with other campers. Remember: a. Keep what you say respectful of campers and staff alike b. Do not use obscenities, vulgar or sexual language c. Do not say threatening, harassing, or intimidating things to or about other campers or staff d. Do not post pictures online that would embarrass or violate anyone s privacy e. Do not pose as another camper online or spread false information about anyone or say derogatory or threatening things to or about anyone f. Do not use a website, blog, or email to talk about things that are against camp policy like drugs, alcohol, bullying, or sexual things We are happy to say that most internet communication is POSITIVE! In the rare case where we discover negative messages to other campers or staff our policy is to call the parents of the campers who sent the messages and share the contents with them. We want you to be safe on the Internet. If you receive a threatening email, IM or message on your personal website one that is mocking or uses vulgar or harassing language tell your parents immediately. If you think the message might be from someone at camp, ask your parents to notify Extension staff immediately! Camp Clover Point has a no cell phone/electronic device policy at camp. All electronic devices that take photos, connect to the internet and make/take phone calls must be turned in to Extension staff upon arriving at camp. This includes cell phones, smart watches, MP3 players, media players, etc. They will be returned when camp has ended. The use of head phones with any personal electronic device is also not allowed. We encourage children to participate fully with their peers at camp and headphones can be isolating. We do allow personal music devices to be used with speakers. We are trying to create the safest environment possible for all of our campers. If a camper has a prohibited device, it will be held in the office until the end of camp. If you would like to take pictures at camp you may bring a camera. A disposable film camera is preferred (with an affixed return address label for identification). As with other electronic devices, the physical camp environment is not kind to digital cameras, and they can be easily broken, lost or stolen. The first afternoon of camp, campers (with counselors present) will be allowed to take pictures of their bunk area inside their cabin. For the remainder of camp, only outside pictures are permitted.
