First up, the Wildcats are headed to Southern Utah and Northern Arizona. ON THE HORIZON Weber State will return home for two of the final four home games of the season by hosting Sacramento State Feb. 9 and Portland State Feb. 11 at the Dee Events Center. WHAT S GOOD? The Wildcats posted a 5-0 record at the start of the season making it the best start to any season in Wildcat history. KAILIE QUINN and EMILY DRAKE are the only two Wildcats to start all 19 games for Weber State. EMILY DRAKE remains the Wildcats leading scorer averaging15.3 points per game. Drake has also scored in double figures in 16-18 games for the Wildcats. Weber State has had three different athletes scoe 20 or more points in a game this season, JOCELYN ADAMS, EMILY DRAKE and DEESHYRA THOMAS. DEESHYRA THOMAS has 10 career games scoring 20 or more points in a game, three this season. THOMAS is just 88 points short of joining the 1,000 point club. If she averages at least eight points a game for the remainder of the season she ll reach the milestone by the Big Sky Championships in Reno. EMILY DRAKE is No. 2 in the Big Sky in 3-point field goals made with her 57 on the year. Drake has also managed to stay in the top 50 in the nation in three point shooting. She sits at No. 37 in attempts, 41 in made and 24 in percentage. NECESSARY NOTES WSU has an 8-11 overall record on the season and are sitting at No. 9 in the Big Sky standings with a 2-6 record. HEAD COACH BETHANN ORD DANG DRAKE! BACK AT IT AGAIN Sophomore Emily Drake has been a forced to be reckoned with this year and she proved that again against Northern Colorado. Drake posted a new career high of 27 points and her first double double of the season with 10 rebounds. Against the Bears, Drake only had three points going into half. She put up 24 points in the second half and 16 points in the fourth quarter alone. Drake has remained the season s leading scorer averaging 15.3 points per game and she s scored in double figures 17 of 19 games this season. SERIES HISTORY - SOUTHERN UTAH This will be the 29th meeting between Weber State and Southern Utah. The two teams are tied in the series at 14-14. The Wildcats are currently on a four game winning streak over the Thunderbirds. WSU has a 3-9 record when taking on SUU in Cedar City and are looking to pick up their third consecutive win on the road and fifth consecutive win in the series. Ord was named head coach of the Wildcats in May of 2011 after a long career as an assistant coach. She is the fifth head coach in WSU women s basketball history. Ord came to WSU with 22 years of coaching experience. Before coming to Weber State she spent four seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Louisville. At Louisville, Ord was instrumental in the Cardinals signing three top 15 recruiting classes and one in the top five. She also helped bring two high school All-Americans to Louisville. A native of Rochester, Ord earned her bachelor s degree in psychology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in 1989. LAST WEEK S ACTION Against Idaho State: Weber State women s basketball dropped a well fought game to Idaho State Saturday afternoon with a final score of 57-52. The Wildcats were led by Emily Drake who had 14 points. Welch- Coleman also scored in double figures with 10. Deeshyra Thomas had the game high with four assists and Kailie Quinn had the game high of three steals. Weber State shot 30 percent from the field, 19 percent from the three and 58 percent from the free throw line. The Wildcats pulled down 37 rebounds, while having 11 assists, five steals and just 11 turnovers.
