The Cubs yesterday won their 72nd game of the season and are one win shy of matching their total from last season. Anthony has also reached 20 homers for the third-straight year he is the first Cubs left-handed hitter to reach 20 homers in threestraight years since Leon Durham s four-year run from 1984-87 in the last 55 years, Billy Williams is the only other Cubs lefty to turn the trick, as he did so in 13-straight years from 1961-73. THIS IS HIGHLY OFFENSIVE: The Cubs have hit 52 home runs since the All-Star break, tied with New York for most in the National League and one shy of Seattle for most in the majors in the team s last 12 games, Chicago has belted 29 long balls for an average of 2.4 homers per contest the Cubs rank second in the majors with 37 homers in August (the Mets have 38). Chicago is batting.270 (166-for-605) with 111 runs scored in its last 19 games since August 4, good for an average of 5.8 runs per game that includes a.307 average (47-for-153) with runners in scoring position. CROSSING THE PLATE AT A RAPID RATE: Dexter Fowler ranks third in the N.L. with 83 runs scored, trailing only Arizona s A.J. Pollock (89) and Washington s Bryce Harper (86) the 83 runs are just one shy of Fowler s career mark of 84, done in 2011 with the Rockies.
