t e ob c R O REPORT ONGOING INITIATIVES Indo-German Conference We kick off our Inter-center League Mental Health Workshop for our Coaches Fairtrade India Honors the Forca Goa Foundation Women s Team gets featured on Star TV Goa Vs. Garbage #TackleTrash Together Festival with the Special Olympics 1

INDO-GERMAN CONFERENCE The Forca Goa Foundation was one of only two Foundations invited to put up a table at the Indo German Football Cooperation a one day conference that was part of an extended program called German Days organized by the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce from October 12-14th. The theme for the conference this year was creating opportunities to empower women through football, taking the slogan She Plays, All Win. Our Non-Executive Director, and President of FC Goa, Akshay Tandon, was invited to be a keynote speaker and participate on a panel discussion. The conference highlighted the fact that India has a wealth of female talent in football. It is not for lack of will or desire, but rather limited opportunities for the women that hinders the advancement in the game. This along with low visibility in the media seems to create many barriers for advancing women in the sport. Luckily several organizations including the AIFF are working together to create more opportunities for women in the game. The AIFF s India Women s League or IWL is about to enter its 3rd season, with many regional football bodies showing their support by hosting the pre-qualifiers leagues and tournaments required for teams to make it into the national league. The GFA in Goa is hosting its second edition of the Vedanta Women s League. FC Goa has a Women s team participating in the league with hopes to make it all the way to the IWL. We left the Conference feeling encourage that we are only seeing the beginning of the female revolution in football. 2

INTERCENTER LEAGUE LAUNCH The Forca Goa Foundation is proud to announce that launch of our 2018-19 Intercenter League. This year we have redesigned our leagues to insure the teams participating get full advantage of a longer league format. The League will run every Saturday from October until the end of the school year with breaks during exams and holidays. Each school will have two teams in the U12 and U14 age categories participating in this league. Conceptualized by Derrick Pereira, Technical Director of FC Goa, the league hopes to provide incentives to the coaches and children in the grassroots program and give them valuable match experience. Current school football competitions provide limited match time to the participants as they are mostly short tournaments rather than long term leagues. By putting the focus on playing time rather than winning, the Foundation hopes to build future stars by allowing them to develop critical match skills that players can only get by playing games regularly. Coaches also benefit from developing and selecting a team that competes. It allows them to develop tactically and professionally. Considering a coach can impact over 1000 kids though his/her career, the Foundation hopes this league will have a long lasting impact in the football ecosystem in the state. 3

MENTAL HEALTH WORKSHOP In August we had hosted a training for all our coaches with ARPAN on Child Sexual Assault Awareness and Safety. Post that training we were advised that a good follow up workshop would be on Mental Health as whole. Since World Mental Health Day falls on October 10th we felt, October was an appropriate month to host the follow up workshop. Lucky for us Goa is also home to an internationally recognized organization called Sangath that specialize in mental health research. Sangath is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization committed to improving health across the life span by empowering existing community resources to provide appropriate physical, psychological and social therapies. Its primary focus areas include child development, adolescent and youth health, and adult health and chronic disease. Sangath has agreed to partner with us for the next year to work with both our coaches and the kids we work with. On October 15th Sangath held a workshop for the entire Forca Goa Foundation team. The goal of the workshop was to help our team understand the important role mental health plays in everyone s lives, and to try and start conversations to help breaking down the negative taboos around mental health that prevent many people from getting the help they need. 4

FAIRTRADE INDIA HONORS FORCA GOA FOUNDATION Fairtrade India presented an award to the Forca Goa Foundation on 24th October to recognize them as the first organization in India to make a commitment to the Fairtrade footballs. The victory of the first home game of the season was also the kickstart of the Fairtrade football revolution in India. Fairtrade is a global movement that aims to gives consumers the power to make informed choices that change lives. When you choose a Fairtrade India certified product, you know that the farmers and workers who grow and make your food, fashion or footballs were treated fairly. Forca Goa Foundation has committed to source all the footballs they will be using in their academy/ coaching/ training from a Fairtrade certified factory. Through these fairer choices, Forca Goa Foundation will be empowering a community of workers who hand stitch INDPro footballs in a Fairtrade India certified factory in Ludhiana. By choosing the fairer football alternative Forca Goa Foundation is ensuring that the footballs are made at factories that follow Fairtrade social and environmental sustainability standards. This means that the workers who stitch them have access to good working conditions, fair wages, right to form associations and unions and a Fairtrade Premium. 5

WOMEN S TEAM GETS FEATURED ON STAR TV The Forca Goa Foundation has worked with the FC Goa Club to build on our Junior Guar U12 Girls league last year, which was the first of its kind in Goa. We have now begun the process of developing a full-scale women's program with the Club which includes FC Goa having a women's team. Star TV came down to Goa and joined us for one of the Women s team trainings. The Women s team is currently competing in Goa's Vedanta Women's League the regional competition prior to the IWL. We hope to make it to the IWL this year. But either way we are currently the only club in the ISL with a women's program. Besides having several women in both the organizations who are excited to see this happen, Coach Derrick, the Technical head for the Club and Akshay are equally as committed and excited by the new program. Our Women's National Team is ranked 59th while are men's just reached 97 in the FIFA's world rankings. We would love to see an Indian team make it to the World Cup one day soon so we feel we should be supporting and developing the game for everyone to help us get there. We hope that by creating more awareness around our Women s Program it will help encourage more girls to get in the game. Our program seeks to create opportunities for girls at every age. 6

GOA VS. GARBAGE LAUNCHES OUR STADIUM CAMPAIGN The Forca Goa Foundation is committed to doing our part to help #tackletrashtogether under our Goa vs. Garbage Campaign. As such we have decided to partner with FC Goa on a season long campaign to create awareness around waste management in the stadium. We felt inspired by the Japanese at the last World Cup, and thought why can t we do that too with our fans. So we have insured that there are bins for both wet and dry waste located around the stadium, with posters and standees explaining the difference of wet and dry waste. We also got some of our 1st team videos to put together a small video that is screened before every game asking the fans to help keep the Fortress FC Goa s home clean. At the second game we decided to continue our campaign with a half time quiz around waste management. The quiz invited representatives from FC Goa s official fan clubs to come to the field at halftime to test their knowledge on waste management in the stadium. The 3 contestants were asked seven questions with a bonus round for the prize of an autographed football by some of their favorite FC Goa players. In the end Gaur Army won the contest and took a pledge to help FC Goa and the Forca Goa Foundation keep the stadium clean. We were delighted to see that the fans took this pledge to heart by organizing a clean up outside of the stadium after the 1st game, and committed to hosting similar clean ups after all of the Club s home games from now on. 7

FESTIVAL WITH THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS Forca Goa Foundation conducted a educational football festival for 125 special athletes at St. Xavier s Academy for Special Students, Old Goa on 30th October 2018. The festival was conducted as part of an on-going partnership with the Foundation and Special Olympics Bharat. FC Goa s women s team. The children were grouped according to their abilities and were given opportunities to learn basic development skills like communication, motor skills, hand eye coordination and simple math through fun, football based activities on a small pitch. The festival kicked off at 8.30 am and saw athletes from 14 schools participate in small 5 versus 5 games and short football based activities. The festival was conducted by the grassroots coaches from the Forca Goa Foundation who are also trained to work with athletes with different needs and abilities. The highlight of the festival was a quick match where FC Goa s Women s team players joined the female special athletes for an exhibition game. This was a perfect representation of the Foundation s campaign, #Football4All! The coaches were assisted by the physical education teachers from the schools and the first team players from 8
