SRCL Coin Drive Anna Plank For the past 3 months we have been raising money for he community library in Slippery Rock. At all of our home meets there has been a box up by the concessions area. So far, we have only raised $18.30. I am sure we can raise that total! So to get our total higher, we need every family to contribute in any way possible. If you live in a neighborhood you could go out and ask for money there. Or, if you have grandparents, aunts or uncles etc., you could ask them for any loose change they could contribute. Bring your loose change to our last home meet and lets see an awesome final total!

What to Expect at Champs Natalie Carlantonio The championship meet is approaching fast!! I have been to 5 champs already in my swimming career, and here are my tips about what to expect if you have never been to champs before. First of all it is a really crowded meet. All the teams from the league are there so it is important to stay with a friend, coach, or parent the whole time. The buddy system is key! Also, we will be in a big gym, and there will be a section just for our team. Make sure you pay attention when they announce events to be seeded (just like a regular meet). Next, the meet can last a pretty long time so bring something to do. You could bring coloring books and crayons, drawing pads, tablets, or any electronic to play on, card games, headphones to listen to music, or pretty much anything you want to do while you wait to swim you can bring. You can also cheer on teammates while you wait. Finally, champs is SO much fun!! It is my favorite meet of the whole season because the whole team is there and you can spend time with your teammates and coaches before the tiny break in the spring. Just remember HAVE FUN!!! I hope everyone is super excited for champs this year! I know everyone will swim fast and do great!!!

USA Swimming Championship Meets Bronze Champs-February 18 & 19 North Allegheny High School Anna Plank and Kaitlin Novak started out the US Championship meet schedule with big splash last month! Both girls posted multiple individual best times and brought home 4 individual medals each. Way to go Anna and Kaitlin! Silver Champs-February 25 &26 Chartiers Valley High School Four SRST swimmers attended Silver Champs. Kelly Somora, Anna Plank, Natalie Double, and Cora Plank swam multiple personal best times and represented SRST very well in place finishes. Natalie and Kelly both competed in finals on Saturday. Natalie posted a personal best time in her 200 freestyle (dropping nearly 4 seconds from preliminaries that am) to WIN the event. Kelly placed 5th overall in her 100 backstroke. Anna and Cora both accomplished personal best times. Good job to all! Anna and Natalie having some Emoji fun at Silver Champs, while Kelly and Cora take instruction from Coach O Toole! Gold Champs-to be held March 9,10, 11,12 University of Pittsburgh-Trees Pool Emma Plank, Natalie Carlantonio, and Natalie Double will compete in a total of 15 individual events for USA swimming s Gold Championship meet at Pitt. We wish these ladies the BEST of luck as the compete with top athletes in the Pittsburgh area. Good luck girls!

Coaches Corner Gabby Schwartz Welcome to Coach s Corner! This month the coach featured is Coach Karla Broad. Coach Karla has been swimming for seven years. Her interest in swimming started because one of her friends wanted Coach Karla to swim with her, and because she loves the pool. She loves coaching, and her favorite part is seeing kids improve after working with them. Here are some fun facts about Coach Karla. First, her favorite stroke is breaststroke. She thinks that it is the most fun, and is the easiest for her. Next, if she had to describe herself in three words they would be funny, positive, and loving. Last, Coach Karla s favorite quote is, You will love who you become on the path to your goal. Thanks for reading this month s edition of Coach s Corner!

Swimmer of the Month Mikayla Fleeger For the month of March our swimmer of the month is Evan Shearer! I asked Evan some questions about himself and he gave me the answers. Evan swims in the black group, and he has been on the team for two years. His favorite stroke is freestyle. Outside of swimming Evan likes to play football outside with his sister and ride his quad when it is nice out. Evan loves to help others, and one way he does this is mowing the grass for his family. Evan also enjoys going to the beach. Evan is in 6 th grade at Dassa McKinney Elementary School. Good luck to Evan and all the rest of SRST as champs approaches. Let s Go Eels!!!

Swimmers of the Meet Youngstown State Meet: Virginia Recchia: Virginia did a great job competing at her first non-wcpsl meet a few weeks ago! She competed in not only individual events, but also a few relays as well. Not only did she compete well in a new environment, she also had major time drops in all of the events she swam! She dropped almost 11 SECONDS in 100 IM AND almost 10 SECONDS in the 200 freestyle! Madison Emekter: Madison also participated in her first non-wcpsl meet and performed great! All of her swims showed major improvements, which is a result of all her hard work at practice! She had multiple time drops that helped her placing through the meet! Madison also has had great attendance recently at practice, which helps her excel at meets! She dropped in the 50 breaststroke, 50 backstroke, and over 5 seconds in the 50 freestyle!.

Swimmers of the Meet Home Meet vs. Oxford and New Brighton Avery Grossman: Wow! Avery did amazing in all of her races she swam against Oxford and New Brighton. She began her day by taking off over 4 seconds in the 25 backstroke, which is a HUGE time drop for her! She swam a personal best of 22.78, which placed her second in her event. Avery was also a part of the 8 & under A relay that placed second at the meet. Finally, she topped off her day by winning the girls 7-8 25 yard freestyle with another personal best of 19.88! Reagan Suorsa: Reagan had a fantastic meet at home a few weeks ago. She started off the meet by dropping around 2 seconds in one of her favorite events, the 100 fly. Reagan then came back and was able to swim butterfly for the 13-14 A relay as well. Not too long after the break, she then dropped over 2 seconds in the 100 freestyle to finish with a personal best of 1:03.66. Last but not least, she not only finished the day by breaking 29 in the 50 freestyle, but also dropped over 2 seconds doing it! Congratulations to all of the swimmers! Keep up the hard work!
