On December 8 your new Officers and Board will be named and I know we will be in good hands for 2018. Bringing my year as your President to a close is bittersweet, but necessary. I started the year with very high expectations for myself, maybe too high. Through no fault of others, some additional items were added to the already heavy load I planned for myself. I bumbled through some of these tasks with relative success and completely bungled others. I want to thank so many of you for stepping up and easing my load when and where possible this last year. One person I do want to single out here is Vic Wolfe. Vic volunteered to step into the Vice President position when our elected V.P. Greg Smalley moved to Arizona several months earlier than he and Victoria expected. I urge you to support your 2018 Officers by volunteering - set up a tour, lead a cruise, plan a dinner, attend a Tech Day - the list of ways to help is endless. If everyone carries a little weight it is easier to keep moving forward. Thank you, Jim
VETTE GAZETTE 2017 in the rearview mirror. January - a cold, miserable month of cleanup after the devastating ice storms of December. Zero Corvette events planned. February - the highlight was our annual Valentine s Day Dinner. This year it was held at Willy s Lebanese & Northwest Cuisine. Thanks to Don Thumel we were treated to a surprise performance by the Cascade Chorus. March - our first Tech Day of the year was held at Jeff & Susan Homolka s shop. The importance of these tech days was demonstrated when Jeff pointed out the excessive wear on the front tires of our Grand Sport due to a faulty alignment. April - two more Tech Days this month, one at Dennis & Chris Hough s home and a Detailing Clinic held at Homolka s again. The Detail Clinic was one of the best attended events of the year. Shall we do another next Spring? May - good weather poked it s head out of the clouds, so we planned a mystery tour and rally. We arrived at The Point restaurant in Sweet Home for a scenic lunch. June - early June is a great time for a burger run to Pete s Drive-In in Roseburg. Correction: any time is a good time for a burger run. (hint, hint) In late June we departed for Corvettes at Lake Tahoe. Those of us from the northern climes are not used to heat like that in June, whew. July - both the weather and the activity level shot up in July. We started July with one of my personal favorites, July 4th at Garretson s on the McKenzie River. Just days later we attended Corvette City in support of Timberland Corvettes in Roseburg. Our day included a visit to the VA hospital to visit our good friend David Brooks and other veteran s who were able to come outside. On July 15 we hosted Cruise Oregon to an ice cream social at EPUD. The President s Mystery Tour went south again touring some new roads in Douglas County and arrived at Bandon Dunes Golf complex for lunch at McKee s Pub.
August - the event we had been planning for over a year was finally here Corvettes in the Park! And a spectacular event it was. We may have down a bit on the count, but the Corvettes and the people who drove them were wonderful.
We continued August with our 2nd Annual Golf Day, this year at Diamond Woods Golf Club. Shots were made, shots were missed, lies were told, you know, a typical golf day. Two days later we cruised to the Oregon Coast and Corvettes on the Bay in North Bend / Coos Bay. September - a lucky few of our members went to Laguna Seca (Mazda Raceway) near Monterey, CA to see, hear and feel the entire experience that is IMSA Racing. Of course we are most interested in Corvette racing! October - the cold and rain returns, Corvettes are tucked into their garages for a short slumber (see November). The annual Halloween party supplies our inner child with the opportunity to masquerade as fantasy characters and act silly. That s what makes it fun! Although we could all use some dance lessons. Novembers - the Corvettes come out for one more day. And for a very important cause, the Veteran s Day parade in Albany. This year Cascade had 15 cars, joined by two from Capital City Corvette Club in Salem. Two more Cascade cars took part in the Veteran s Day parade in Roseburg.
