Thorsby Junior Senior High PH: 780 789 3983 Fax: 780 789 3024 February 2017 Principal s Message Ganton Gazette As we start semester 2 here are three pieces of advice for parents and students: Parents: 1. Make sure that you know the courses that your children are taking. This is especially important for our high school parents. To obtain a diploma students need a certain amount of credits in a certain order. For our high school students we will also be sending out enrollment reviews to make sure that you are on track to graduate on time. 2. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the teacher. The teacher is the boots on the ground and can like answer you question(s) better than either Mrs. Eliasson or I can. 3. Make sure that you are helping your children to stay on top of their workloads. There is nothing more frustrating than working and feeling that you are never catching up. Help your children to avoid that feeling. Remember as a general rule Jr. High students should have about a half hour of homework every night, Sr. High should have a half hour per subject. Students: 1. You have the rest of your life to work. Your job right now is to get your high school diploma. 2. Stay on top of your studies, especially online self-directed courses. 3. Remember to ask questions when you aren t grasping a concept, your teachers are there for a reason, they are not exhibits in a zoo just to be looked at. Next month I will be writing about empathy building in our staff, students, school and community. Until then have a great February. Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time. ~Thomas A. Edison
