Commodore Greetings Friends, June is the halfway mark for the year and summer officially begins on the 20 th. This is a great time to check and update your first aid kit. Many times a first aide kit gets set aside and forgotten, that is until you need it. This brings up some good news for our club. We now have an AED or Defibrillator in our Club House. I want to say a big thank you to our Rear Commodore, Dale West and his wife Angie for making this happen. They are working on a time and date for training and proper use of the AED. We will have more information and details coming. Last month, we hosted the Singles Yacht Club for their Opening Day Ceremony. All their members and guest enjoyed the day. I d like to thank Tom Baker for his work at the Bar, and also Tony and Becky Rietdyk. Thank you Tony for your work with the flag set up and deployment during the ceremony. We received many thanks for the use of our club house and help with the set up. They are a good group of people to work with. New membership is the heart beat of our club. Without it we would not be the thriving club we are today. Use your NYCLB cards to hand out to people you know, who may be possible new members. Invite them to one of our Friday Night Pot Luck dinners. If you have not received your cards or would like more, you can sign up at the Club House or email me at roycqueen@gmail.com I will make them up for you. Your 2016 Commodore Roy C. Queen The Scuttlebutt 2
Vice Commodore Tommy Wheeler I hope all of our Mothers enjoyed the Breakfast at Tiffany s themed buffet for Mother s Day. The Crema Café from Main Street provided the delicious treats and performed the set up. We had 69 members attend and just enough food to make everyone happy. The weather could have been just a bit warmer, but other than that it was a beautiful day. I hope we did our Mother s justice on their special day. As has been the routine for the recent past, table decorations were provided by Joyce and the center pieces were designed by Grayce, Sylvia and Joyce. Lovely job ladies!! Thank you. The raffle prizes were arranged by Sylvia and Grayce. As always, the bar tenders, Tom and Tripp did an outstanding job. I think it has become a contest to see who can get to the club and start setting up first. I don t know who gets there first, either Lorne and Jeanne or Roy but they have most of the hard stuff accomplished before I get there. Sherrill and Kenneth did a spectacular job keeping the food warm and the serving trays filled. We d also like to thank Tamara for the donation of the champagne for the Mother s special event drink. Thank you all for putting forth the effort to make these events fun and entertaining. If I failed to mention you by name, please know that I really appreciate all of your help. The next event is the Father s Day BBQ. The theme for this year s event is Boots, Beer and BBQ. Dad s Bar BQ and Smokehouse is going to be bringing in the Smoker and it promises to be another successful event. You may have seen them at the Farmers Market in the parking lot by Joe s Crab Shack. A flyer will be attached to the scuttlebutt and RSVP s will be required. Summer is now upon us so please be mindful of the number of boaters that will be on the water. Many of them are not as skilled as we are and may be less attentive to the rules of the road. Just remember to be safe so that you can come to all of our events and share the comradery that we enjoy. Respectfully, Tommy Wheeler Vice Commodore The Scuttlebutt 3

Jr. Staff Commodore Gary Halliburton Thanks to contributions of our two new Commodores, Tommy Wheeler and Dale West, we are enjoying a new experience this year of catered monthly gatherings. We celebrated our March St. Patty s event with delicious Corned Beef and Cabbage, in addition to some great appetizers, catered by the Abbey of Seal Beach. Our Mother s Day brunch was catered by Crema Café of Seal Beach. We dined on Quiche and Egg Burritos, plus some great Muffins. This year our Father s Day event will be catered by Dad s Bar B Q and Smokehouse, featuring Tri Tip, Chicken, Pulled Pork, Cole Slaw, Potato Salad, and Beans. All I can say is, wow, not only do we have the best view in Alamitos Bay, but now brand new epicurean delights by the sea. I can t forget to mention the contribution of our member Mic McCullough this month. He generously donated a Jockey Box and his time to purchase and assemble it. We gave it a try with a keg of Firestone 805. We will feature this again on Father s Day, so come and give our Club s new draft beer a try. Sincerely, Gary The Scuttlebutt 6
