Maryland Street Indianapolis, IN 46225 317.269.3542 www.indyindians.com Durham Bulls 39-22, 1st IL South LHP Mike Montgomery (2-0. 5.03 ERA) Friday June 7, 2013 7:15 p.m. EDT Victory Field Indianapolis, Indiana Game #63 Home Game #33 TRIBE TRENDS: The Durham Bulls stole a Victory Field opponent record eight bases and held the Indians scoreless over the final eight innings to earn a 6-2 win over the Tribe on Thursday night... Trailing two games to one, Indianapolis will now look to avoid their first home series loss of the season tonight... Four of the Bulls eight steals in last night s contest came from former Tribe OF Rich Thompson, who matched an individual opponent Victory Field record for steals in a game, last accomplished by Pawtucket s Anton French on May 15, 2003... After smashing 40 runs of their four-game set in Columbus, the Indians have been limited to just five runs over the first three games of their series against Durham... Despite the loss, the Tribe still maintains Minor League baseball s best first-to-second place advantage with a 10.5- game lead over second-place Columbus in the IL s West Division... With the two-double effort from INF Josh Harrison the Indians now rank first in the IL with 125 two-baggers on the season... The Tribe also continues to pace the league in steals, as OF Alex Presley and INF Chase d Arnaud both swiped a bag to give Indianapolis an IL-best 78 stolen bases on the season... The Indians are 31-8 this season when they score first, including 15-4 at home... Last night, the Indians plated both their scores in the first frame and have now outscored their opponents 48 to 23 in the first inning this season, as well as a combined 124 to 73 over the first three innings of contests in 2013. TONIGHT S TRIBE STARTER: Scheduled to make his first start in an Indians uniform tonight is the recently acquired RHP Graham Godfrey (5-3, 3.77 ERA)... The right-hander was promoted from Double-A Altoona on June 3 after being acquired by the Pirates from Pawtucket (Boston) on May 31... In 13 outings (four starts) with the PawSox this season, Godfrey was 4-3 with a 3.83 ERA (18 ER in 42.1 IP) with 30 strikeouts and 19 walks over 42.1 innings... He has made one relief appearance for the Indians since joining the team, earning the victory on June 3 in Columbus after allowing just one run on three hits, while walking none and striking out a season-high tying five over 3.0 innings pitched... Godfrey faced Durham earlier this season on May 5 while with Pawtucket, and allowed just two hits over 5.0 scoreless innings of relief... After being roughed up in at the beginning of the season to the tune of a 1-2 record and 5.68 ERA over eight appearances in the month of April, Godfrey has since rebounded to post a 4-1 record and excellent 2.39 ERA (7 ER in 26.1 IP) in eight appearances since May 1 (seven with Pawtucket, one with Indy)... The right-hander has been effective in a starting role this since, as he owns a 2-1 record and 2.95 ERA (6 ER in 18.1 IP) in his four starts with Pawtucket... His most recent appearance in the rotation came against Indianapolis on May 29 at Victory Field, when earned the win after allowing just two runs on six hits over 5.0 innings of work. TONIGHT S BULLS STARTER: Durham will look to LHP Mike Montgomery (2-0, 5.03) to earn a series victory in tonight s matchup against the Tribe... The former Kansas City Royals top prospect was acquired by the Tampa Bay Rays from Kansas City along with organizational top prospects RHP Jake Odorizzi and OF Wil Myers, as well as RHP Patrick Leonard in exchange for RHP Wade Davis, RHP James Shields and INF Elliot Johnson... Montgomery began the season by allowing two runs on five hits and three walks on April 7 against Norfolk, before being placed on the disabled list for over a month and a half... The southpaw then returned to the Bulls on May 23 and has made three starts since, allowing two runs on five hits over 5.0 innings in a win on May 23 in Scranton, surrendering five runs on eight hits over 5.0 innings in a no-decision on May 28 against Buffalo and earning a win over Scranton on June 2 after allowing three runs on six hits over 6.0 innings of work... Montgomery has gotten hit hard by IL batters this season, who overall are batting.300 against him, including a.316 average (6-for-19) by left-handed hitters and a.295 mark (18-for-61) with nine extrabase hits from right-handed bats... Montgomery struck out 129 batters in 150.2 innings in his first season at Triple-A in 2011 withe Omaha Storm Chasers, but has ultimately yielded a 5.43 ERA (158 ER in 262.0 IP over three Triple-A seasons... Montgomery has never faced Indianapolis in his career. HARRISON S HOT STREAK: Tribe INF Josh Harrison went 2-for-4 with two doubles in last night s contest to continue his torrid start to the month of June... Harrison did see his impressive six-game run scoring streak come to an end last night, but extended his team-best and season-high hitting streak to seven straight games... During his seven-game streak which dates back to May 31, Harrison has paced all of Triple-A baseball with 14 hits, while also ranked among offensive leaders in doubles (T-1st, 5), extra-base hits (T-1st, 6), total bases (2nd, 21) and runs (T-2nd, 9)... Overall during his streak, Harrison is batting.438 (14-for-32) with eight runs, five doubles, one triple and three RBI... Despite having played in just 42 games with Indianapolis this season, Harrison ranks second on the team with 18 multi-hit performances and has moved into a tie for the second-most doubles in the IL this season with 18. LOVING LEFTIES: Several Indians batters may be excited to see a southpaw on the mound tonight as the Tribe as a team is batting.271 against left-handers vs. just a.255 mark against right handed hurlers... The Tribe s top performer against lefties this season has been C Tony Sanchez, who is batting an unbelievable.419 (13-for-31) with seven runs, six doubles, a home run and nine RBI... Infielders Ivan DeJesus, Josh Harrison and Matt Hague have also enjoyed great success against southpaws as DeJesus is hitting.394 (13-for-33) with five runs and nine RBI, Harrison is hitting.375 (15- for-40) with eight runs and eight RBI, and Hague has hit.373 (19-for-51) with 11 runs and seven RBI. GO GO GOEDERT: 3B Jared Goedert drove in both of the Tribe s runs in yesterday s contest with a clutch two-out, two-run single in the first... The Indians 3B now leads the team with nine multi-rbi games so far this season and is tied for the team lead with 14 two-out RBI... Goedert has continued to improve as the campaign has worn on for the Tribe, as he is batting.280 (7-for-25) in the month of June after batting.236 (26-for-110) in May and just.213 (13-for-61) in April... The right handed slugger is also one of three Indians hitters to rank among the top 10 in the IL in walks, as Goedert s 30 free passes are the ninth-most in the League, just behind teammates Jerry Sands (31, 8th) and Matt Hague (32, 7th). PIE NAMED PLAYER OF THE MONTH: Indians OF Felix Pie was today named the team s player of the month for May... The speedy outfielder was unstoppable on the base paths in May as his 15 stolen bases ranked tied for the most steals in all of Triple-A Baseball during the month, being matched only by Louisville s top prospect Billy Hamilton, who appeared in three more contests than the Tribe s slugger... Pie also finished ranked second among all International League batters who played in at least 25 games during May in both batting average (.356) and slugging percentage (.563), while his.446 on-base percentage ranked as the third-highest in the league... Overall this season the left-handed slugger has produced a.275 average (49-for-178) with nine doubles, three triples, three homers, 26 RBI and the second most steals in the IL with 23. He entered the season s second month with just a.172 clip at the plate, but after his dominating performance in May, Pie raised his batting average by over 100 points to conclude the 25-game stretch hitting.278.
