In place of picture day, pictures will be taken of your dancer on the day of their dress rehearsal! Pictures will be taken in order of the show. Dancers should arrive 1/2 hour early for picture/rehearsal time with hair and make up done. Individual photos will be taken then group photos. Rehearsals will start on time. The show order will be posted throughout the dressing rooms and the lobby. You may leave after they have done their dances. If your child is in multiple classes they will have to be there longer. Company dances will not rehearse on stage for recital, all dances have performed several times at this point. Toddle Inn show does not have a dress rehearsal. Dance Recitals We have 2 recitals both on Saturday, June 15 th. (10 am show and a 1:30pm show). Both the rehearsals and the shows are at South Portland High School Auditorium. Dress rehearsals are mandatory. Your child's recital day is posted on the website on the schedule page and on the recital day's handout. The recital days are also posted in the lobby and have been emailed out. Recital weekend has been determined since June 2017. Dancers must arrive by 9:30am with hair and make-up done for the 10:00am recital to ensure everyone is accounted for and ready. We want to make this as stress free as possible. Dancers must arrive by 1:00pm with hair and make-up done for the 1:30 pm show. We understand that some kids are in several classes and will have quick changes. We will have a quick change station backstage for those kids. We will have staff there to help kids with their quick changes. (A quick change must be 4 #'s or less). They will just need to put their costumes in the quick change spot with a name tag. We will provide the name tags. The dressing rooms will be clearly labeled, each class will have a section labeled with a sign. The dressing room signs will state: the class day, time and Teacher. (Example: Monday 11:15 w/melissa) The show order will be posted throughout the dressing rooms and lobby. Dancers in ages 3-4, 3.5-5, will be in the 1 st act of the show. ALL SHOES AND COSTUMES SHOULD BE LABELED WITH DANCERS FULL NAME. The door to the auditorium will open 30 minutes before the show starts. Ushers will help you to your reserved seats. Toddle Inn Recital Toddle Inn will have its own 55 minute recital on May 19th, 2019 @ 10:00am, at South Portland High School. A few company routines will also be in this show. Toddle Inn Students should arrive by 9:30am with Hair and Make-up done. Toddle Inn students will visit backstage before the show to see the stage. Toddle Inn Students will do a Ballet and a Jazz dance in this show. Toddle Inn Dressing room will be clearly labeled.. We will have signs leading you there Toddle Inn tickets are $11 each. Toddle Inn students will not have a separate dress rehearsal. The door to the auditorium will open 30 minutes before the show starts. Ushers will help you to your reserved seats. Toddle Inn dance pictures will be taken at each Toddle inn location the first week in April, during dance class time.

Make Up Dancers need to wear make up for both the dress rehearsal & recital. Make-up includes: bright red lipstick, black mascara, grey eye shadow, heavy pink blush, black eyeliner brought slightly beyond the edge of the eye, and foundation. For the younger students, red lipstick, blush, mascara, and a little eye shadow is fine. Without make up, dancers' faces wash out on the stage; the make-up highlights the features, so you can see the dancers. If you are uncomfortable with putting make-up on your dancer, it is not required. If you have a question about make up application, please see a staff member, we would love to help you. Male students do not have to wear make-up. We will have a hair and makeup class at the studio for parents and dancers. Date to be posted later:) Videotaping/ Photography We will have both shows professionally videotaped and photographed by Digital Video Magic. Order forms will be emailed out. Videotaping and photography are strictly prohibited at both recitals. Anyone caught with a recording device will be asked to leave the recital. Photography is extremely distracting to dancers and blinds them while on stage. All cell phones and pagers must be turned off during performances. You may video tape and photograph during dress rehearsals only. In place of picture day, pictures will be taken of your dancer on the day of their dress rehearsal! Pictures will be taken in order of the show by Claudia Murray. A picture order form will be emailed out in April. Please direct all picture questions to Claudia Murray, 883-9646. Class Performance Schedule Please refer to the class performance schedule on separate paper, to know which day your dancer is performing. If your dancer/dancers are in more than 1 class, they may be in 2 show shows, please check schedule to know which day and recital day s sheet. Company dancers may perform in both shows, a list will be emailed out in January. The class performance schedule is posted in the lobby and on the website at www.scarboroughdancecenter.com. The recital days have been decided since May 2018 and have been posted on the website, studio bulletin board and brochures. The order of the shows will be posted in April at the studio and on the website. Backstage Moms We need backstage moms for ALL of our classes. You may sign-up on the sheet in the lobby or via e-mail. We suggest alternating with other parents each year with backstage mom duties. Backstage moms should be signed up by 5/1/19, to help us plan for the show. Backstage moms will have a view of the recital in the dressing room. The live show will be on large screen in the gym dressing room and the band dressing room. Backstage moms may watch the routines from backstage or may run around to watch the routine from the front. Backstage moms will receive $25 off May tuition. Backstage moms have to stay backstage and in the dressing rooms with the class. Your job is to stay with the children, walk them backstage for their performances walk them back to the dressing room after the performances, help change them for their routines, and to stay with them until all the parents pick them up. We thank you in advance for your help If you are interested please call the studio @ 883-4569, email info@scarboroughdancecenter.com or sign up on the bulletin board in the lobby. Boy dancers will have their own changing area close to backstage. We do need 1 male backstage dad. If interested, please let us know. Backstage moms and dads will receive a pin to wear, so we can recognize them. We will email out detailed information about the backstage process closer to recital. Each mom will get a class list of all the dancers in each dance. When dancers are backstage before they go on, only the backstage mom is allowed back there. Backstage is not a big space and we are running around a lot. Intermission & Snacks We will have a 10-minute intermission for all of our shows where flowers, food, beverages, dance wear, and crafts are sold.

We suggest bringing clear liquids and snacks for the dancers for the show and dress rehearsal. We will have coloring books and movies playing to entertain the children in the dressing room. After the Show Female parents or relatives must pick the female dancers up after their last performance at the dress rehearsal and the recital. Male dancers will have their own dressing area; they must be picked up by a male parent or guardian after their last performance. Dancers may go into the auditorium after their last number. Please be advised, if the dancers sit in a seat, you must purchase a ticket. The ushers will be strict about allowing people in the auditorium, everyone who sits in a seat, must have a ticket. Dancers may not sit in the auditorium before their last routine. Costumes Costumes are handed out as they come in and we organize them. Please do not wear costumes for fun until after the recital. Costumes come in generic sizes, so therefore they might not be a perfect fit. You can always use safety pins & double stick tape. If you have a question about your child's costume size please contact Melissa, info@scarboroughdancecenter.com before December 1st. Scarborough Dance Center is not liable for any rips, tears, stains or damages to the costumes. Only wear your costume for picture day, dress rehearsal, and the recital. A bulletin board with all the dancers' costumes will be posted on a bulletin board at the end of January. We will also email each class a picture of their costume. We will provide detailed costume instructions with the costumes. Tights are included with costume, complimentary of SDC. If your dancer is in several dances that need the same color tights, they will receive 1 pair of tights. Shoes are not provided with costumes. Headpieces and props ALL classes will have their own headpieces. So make sure to keep track of your headpieces and do not lose them. If your dance has a prop, SDC will have the prop for you at your dressing room table for rehearsal and the show. Dancers with larger props are responsible to carry on and off their own props at rehearsal and recital. Costume Alterations Scarborough Dance Center measures all the students in the fall to order the correct costume size. We add 3 inches to the girth for growth. Costumes only come in size small, medium and large. Therefore, it might not always be a perfect fit. Pants always run very long; we will trim pants for the dancers. Any other alterations are up to the dancer and parents. You can always use safety pins to pull something in, you'd be amazed at how often safety pins are used in theater. If you have any questions about the size ordered for your child's costume, please call the studio at #883-4569 or email Melissa. Costumes are ordered in December for the recitals. Costumes are made to order. Shoes Also listed in the policy sheet, website, and bulletin board. Registration confirmation and will be in the costume instructions. Ballet (ages 7-9 and under): Pink Leather Ballet Slippers (no satin shoes for recital) (black for boys) Ballet (level 1-6, ages 9and up): Pink Split Sole Leather Ballet Slippers (black for boys) Tap (6-8 and under): Black Lace-Up Mary Jane Taps Tap (Levels 1 and up): Black Split-Sole Oxford Tap Shoes Jazz (ages 6-8 and up): Black Lace-Up Jazz Shoes. Jazz classes ages 5-7 will wear pink leather ballet slippers for jazz. Hip-Hop: Black Jazz or Hip Hop Sneaker Modern & Lyrical: tan capezio free form There should be no pink canvas ballet slippers at recital. Company dancers will get shoe requirements in October. SDC is selling shoes!

Jewelry/Nail Polish Please do not wear any jewelry on the stage. Jewelry is very distracting to a dancer and takes away from a costume. Please do not wear any nail polish on fingers. Colored nails can take away from the uniformity of the costumes. Theater Rules There is absolutely no food or beverages allowed in the auditorium at any time. Please do not leave auditorium during a performance, please wait for a performance to end. It is distracting to dancers and the audience if the door continues to open and close. Ushers will open and close doors accordingly during the shows. No loud dancing, tapping or yelling is allowed backstage. The floors are very slippery and noises from backstage can be heard on stage and in the audience. Please do not roam around the theater or tamper with any school property. Dancers should stay in the dressing rooms and lobby by the theater. Recital Music for You We understand how important it is to practice recital pieces at home; it helps students feel more comfortable with their routine and enhances their dance ability. We would be happy to make a copy of the recital music for you. Please bring in a burnable CD and we will make a copy of the music for you, for no charge. Please bring the CD to the Front desk, labeled with the dancers name, class day/time and teacher. If you need a CD, you can purchase them from us for $5 per CD. We can start making CDs after March 1st. Label Everything Please label everything you bring to the dress rehearsals and shows. All the dancers have similar shoes, tights, leotards, bags, etc. It is easy to misplace something. Scarborough Dance Center and South Portland HIgh School are not responsible for any lost or stolen items. NO Peanuts or Nut products at recital!!! We have several kids with severe peanut and nut allergies, so we ask that no nut products be at dress rehearsal or recital. Thank you for your understanding. The 2019-2020 Season Our schedule for the 2019-2020 season will be posted on our website by June 20, 2019. Classes for summer 2019 will be posted by January 15 th and brochures will be available at the studio. If you would like help with the placement for your child, we would be happy to help you. We want each dancer to be in a class where they are challenged but not overwhelmed. We are happy to provide a placement audition if necessary. Class placement is based on ability and how much a dancer will benefit in his/her class. See you at the show!
