The previous time Chicago played a doubleheader in which both games were decided in a team s last at-bat was May 28, 2004, at Pittsburgh in that case, the Pirates won both games in walk-off fashion thanks to STATS, Inc. Yesterday s nightcap featured 6.0 innings of one-run ball by Mike Montgomery he is the first pitcher since at least 1908 to go at least 5.0 innings and allow one or fewer runs in each of his first five season starts with the Cubs. Yesterday s twin bill was necessitated by Monday s postponement due to weather and a limited power outage it marked Chicago s seventh postponed game of the season, the team s most since seven in 1986. LEST IS MORE: Jon Lester today makes his team-high 15th start his 2.28 ERA ranks fourth in the N.L. and seventh in the majors moreover, he s gone 7-2 with a 1.83 ERA (14 ER/68.2 IP) in his last 11 starts since April 19, the third-best ERA in the majors during that span, bested only by the Mets Jacob degrom (0.90) and Houston s Justin Verlander (1.68). Lester has 43 starts since 2015 in which he has thrown at least 6.0 innings and allowed one or zero runs those 43 starts are third-most in the majors, trailing only Max Scherzer (44) and Jake Arrieta (44). RISPY BUSINESS: Cubs pitching limited the Dodgers to four hits in 29 at-bats (.138) with runners in scoring position during yesterday s twin bill while Cubs hitters were held to three hits in 17 at-bats (.176) with RISP.
