Newsletter Preliminary Field Events and Hurdles Qualifiers The week of February 29- March 3rd: Girls Track will be holding qualifiers for field events and hurdles. Each event will keep the top six qualifiers per grade level. The top qualifiers will continue practice after school per schedule for field events and hurdles. All girls will still be eligible to qualify for running events during athletic classes. If an athlete can not be at the qualifier for her event, she MUST communicate with the coach to come up with an alternate date/time for qualifying. We are looking forward to a great track season. **in case of rain ** We will have practice indoors at the MPF as long as we don t have conflicts with other activities. We have bad weather guidelines per district policy that restrict outdoor practice during thunderstorms and cold weather. We will notify parents and athletes as soon as possible if we need to cancel practice. Important Information: * Regular Running track practice and timed trials (100m, 200m, and 400m) are conducted during the class period * Field Events, Hurdles, and Relays Practice will be after school per schedule above * Field Events will include: high jump, long jump, triple jump, pole vault, shot put, discus * Coaches will create a schedule for practices that will consist of alternating days for different field events. The schedule will be sent via newsletter the week of February 22nd. Injured Athletes Information Coaches need to be notified if an athlete is injured during practice, game, or other activities if it will interfere athletics. Please notify coaches by email or text if an athlete will miss practice or school. Coach Jones or Coach McNeal, PISD trainers are available before and after school for consultation and treatment for injuries. The trainers are located at the indoor facility at Prosper High School. A doctor or trainer note will be needed if the injury prevails. Parent notes are only good for one day in most instances. Injured athletes are required to be at practice and dressed out. Practices will not have to be made up if the athlete is paying attention and engaged in the practice plan. Prosper Athletic Training Coach Randy Jones, Head Athletic Trainer and Coach Megan McNeal, Assistant Athletic Trainer work to prevent, evaluate, recognize, treat and evaluate athletic injuries and illnesses for our Athletic Teams here at Prosper High School. Along with their Sports Medicine Program students, you will see them on the sidelines of games and practices of our sports teams here in Prosper ISD. Please come visit the athletic training room for athletic injury evaluations and treatment during treatment times this year. Please feel free to contact the Athletic Trainers with any questions throughout the year. Athletes are required to report current grades from Skyward to coach once a week. If an athlete is failing at District Wide Eligibility Date they are ineligible for 3 weeks. During the period of ineligibility Athlete will practice, but will not be able to participate or travel to games. Athletes may regain eligibility at the 3 week period if they are passing ALL classes. Tutoring is encouraged before or after school depending on grade level. 7
