Tip-off time in Savage Arena is set for 6:00 p.m. with the game being televised nationally on the CBS Sports Network. Friday s contest vs. CMU will have major implications for UT in its quest to host a first-round game in the 2017 MAC Tournament. The Rockets lead the Chippewas by one game in the league standings and need a victory to hold the tiebreaker vs. CMU. The Rockets, who are tied for third place in the MAC s West Division with Northern Illinois, saw a 15-point second-half lead disappear for a third-straight game in their setback to the Broncos. Senior forward Steve Taylor, Jr., who paced the Rockets with 17 points and tied his career high and Savage Arena record with 23 rebounds, had a chance to win the game for UT in regulation but his 15-foot jumper rimmed out. Senior guard Jonathan Williams ranks third in the MAC with a team-high 19.7 ppg. He also leads UT with an 81.0 FT%, 124 FTs made and 153 FTs attempted and is averaging a team-best 3.9 apg in league play. Taylor ranks second in team scoring with 15.7 ppg to go along with a MAC-best 12.4 rpg and a team-high 3.6 apg. He sits third nationally in rebounding (through Feb. 22) and second with 10.0 defensive rpg (just behind Purdue s Caleb Swanigan s total of 10.2). In addition, Taylor s 20 double-doubles rank third in the nation. Sophomore guard Jaelan Sanford is also a double-digit scorer for the Rockets with 13.9 ppg and is playing a team-high 36.0 mpg. In league play, he is averaging 14.6 ppg and 3.7 apg with a 52.4 FG%, 50.0 3PTFG% and 2.1 assist/turnover ratio. As a team, Toledo ranks second in the MAC with 80.1 ppg and is first with a 48.4 FG% (23rd nationally) and 16.1 apg. UT leads the MAC in league play with a 49.1 FG% and 17.1 apg. The Rockets have tied a national record with eight overtime games that was previously held by Western Kentucky (1978), Portland (1984) and Valparaiso (1993). UT s previous record for overtime games was five in the 1971-72 campaign. The Chippewas are in the midst of a season-long four-game losing streak with their last three setbacks coming on their home floor. In the national rankings, CMU sits second with 12.7 three-point field goals per game, third with 89.0 ppg and fourth with a 78.4 FT%. Junior guard Marcus Keene leads the nation with 29.8 ppg, while senior guard Braylon Rayson ranks second in the MAC with 20.8 ppg.

Senior guard Jordan Lauf grabbed nine rebounds for a second-straight game and is averaging 8.2 rpg in his last six contests. Sophomore guard Jaelan Sanford is shooting 58.2 percent from the field (32-of-55) and 51.7 percent (15-of-29) from three-point range in his last six games. PAIR OF TRANSFERS TO DON MIDNIGHT BLUE AND GOLD NEXT YEAR Tre Shaun Fletcher (Wilmar, AR) and Willie Jackson (Cleveland, OH) are each expected to become key contributors for the Rockets in the 2017-18 campaign. Fletcher transferred to Toledo from Colorado last spring, while Jackson attended Missouri last fall before becoming a member of UT s program in early January. Fletcher will be eligible to play for UT at the start of the 2017-18 season, while Jackson can play his first game as a Rocket following the 2017 fall semester. Fletcher averaged a career-high 7.1 ppg and grabbed 2.4 rpg in his final campaign at Colorado and started 14 of 34 games played. He scored in double figures on nine occasions, including a Pac-12-high 15 points, six rebounds and two steals at Oregon State. Fletcher ranked 15th in Pac-12 in three-point shooting during league games (.400) and also sank 30 of 34 free throws (.882) during the Pac-12 schedule. In 11 games at Missouri this season, Jackson averaged 5.9 points and 4.6 rebounds per game and shot 54.7 percent from the field in 16.9 minutes per game. He opened his collegiate career with an 11-point, nine-rebound outing vs. Alabama A&M (Nov. 13) and also registered an 11-point, seven-board contest vs. Northwestern State (Nov. 26). PREP TRIO TO JOIN ROCKETS IN 2017-18 The trio of Logan Hill (Massillon, OH), 6-0, 170-pound point guard Marreon Jackson (Cleveland, OH) and 6-3, 185-pound guard Dwayne Rose Jr. (Crete, IL) will each join the Rockets beginning in the 2017-18 academic year. Hill helped lead Massillon Jackson to a 19-5 record, a share of the Federal League title and a district championship game appearance during his junior season playing alongside first-team all-state honoree Kyle Young. He averaged 13.6 points per game last year and was an honorable-mention Division I All-Ohio and second-team all-district selection. Jackson earned honorable-mention all-district honors as a junior at Cleveland Garfield Heights after averaging 14.0 points, 6.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game. He helped the Bulldogs to a 23-5 overall record last year and an appearance in the state semifinals. Rose averaged 14.0 points and 2.0 steals per game as a junior for Crete-Monee High School and helped the Warriors to a 14-6 record in 2015-16. CHAPMAN BASKETBALL COMPLEX DEBUTS IN FALL Savage Arena gained a new addition last fall with the opening of the Chapman Basketball Complex. It was made possible thanks to a $1 million donation from long-time basketball supporters George and Leslie Chapman. The complex includes coaches offices, meeting rooms and a video room and is located at the concourse level on the south end of the arena, directly beneath the Joe Grogan Room, which has been expanded, substantially increasing its current size and capacity on game day. HITTING THE BOOKS Toledo received the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Team Academic Excellence Award last summer with their 3.16 grade-point average in the 2015-16 campaign ranking 10th nationally. The award is in its fourth year of existence, and the Rockets have received the award in two of the last three years. UT is also the only Mid-American Conference school to be honored this season. The Team Academic Excellence Award recognizes NCAA and NAIA men s basketball teams that earned a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.0 or better throughout the 2015-16 academic year. Of the 129 teams to make the list, only 24 were NCAA Division I-affiliated programs. Other NCAA Division I schools posting a 3.0 GPA in the 2015-16 academic year were American, Belmont, Bethune-Cookman, Bradley, Butler, Denver, Duke, Eastern Washington, Harvard, Holy Cross, Louisville, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota State, Northwestern, Northwestern State, Quinnipiac, Rice, Seton Hall, South Carolina, Utah Valley, Vanderbilt, UW-Milwaukee and Yale. ON THE HORIZON Following Friday s contest, Toledo will close out its regular season with a home game vs. MAC West Division leader Ball State (18-10, 9-6 MAC) on Tuesday, Feb. 28 before visiting Eastern Michigan (13-15, 5-10 MAC) on Friday, March 3. The first round of the 2017 MAC Tournament will be held at campus sites on Monday, March 6. Toledo Men s Basketball Notes - page 8 Top Individual Performances in 2016-17 Points J. Nathan Boothe tallied a teamhigh 23 points, seven rebounds and five assists in 35 minutes for the Rockets. Stuckey Mosley and Jonathan Williams joined Boothe in double figures with 17 and 15 points, respectively. Chris Fowler and John Simons tallied 20 and 19 points, respectively, to lead the Chippewas. Simons also grabbed nine boards in 38 minutes of action. Toledo was efficient throughout the contest, committing a season-low five turnovers with zero miscues in the second half. The Rockets shot 41.5 percent from the field, 40.9 percent (9-of-22) from three-point range and 91.7 percent (11-of-12) from the charity stripe. Central Michigan posted a 47.2 shooting mark and was also 9-of-22 (40.9 percent) behind the arc. CMU converted 17-of-20 free throws and held a slim 34-33 advantage on the boards. Neither squad led by more than four points in the opening stanza with a Fowler layup four seconds before halftime putting the visitors in front by a 34-32 margin. Boothe and Navigato drilled back-to-back three-point bombs to give the Rockets their last lead of the night, 57-56, with 9:07 to play. Boothe s trey with 54.3 seconds to play cut CMU s lead to 73-72, but that was as close as the Rockets could get. PLEASANT, MI Toledo s rally from a 14-point deficit came up short in a 96-88 setback at Central Michigan. The Rockets came within two points of the Chippewas on two separate occasions in the second half but could never take the lead. Jonathan Williams spearheaded UT s attack with a career-high 30 points. He was joined in double figures by Steve Taylor Jr. (20 pts.), Jaelan Sanford (16 pts.) and Jordan Lauf (13 pts.). Taylor also grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds for his league-best 13th doubledouble, but that couldn t prevent CMU from owning a 44-37 advantage on the glass. Braylon Rayson paced the Chippewas with 28 points, while Marcus Keene contributed 20 points and team-high tying seven rebounds. Central Michigan held a slim 47.7-44.2 edge in the shooting department. The Chippewas converted 52.8 percent of their shots in the opening 20 minutes, while the Rockets posted a 51.2 conversion rate in the second stanza.
