With one out, and one on, PESTON BECK doubled to the right center field gap, scoring Nick Williams to put the club ahead 2-1...With runners on the corners, LEWIS BINSON hit a ground ball that was mishandled by first baseman Justin Bloxom. Beck scored on the fielder s choice and both OYCE BOLINGE and Brinson were safe on the play. Bostick continued the hit parade with a ground rule double to right center, plating Bolinger to extend the lead to 4-1...Torres finished off the five-run inning hitting a sacrifice fly to center field. Brinson came home on the sacrifice fly and jarred the ball loose out of catcher Joseph Odom s glove. The error on Odom, allowed Bostick to score as well to make it 6-1 Pelicans... Scarpetta (3-3) lost the contest. Leclerc earned his tenth save of the year. TEE IN ONE: The Pelicans turned a 5-4-3 triple play last night. On a ground ball to LUIS MENDEZ, the play went Mendez to CISTOPE BOSTICK to PESTON BECK, around the horn. It was the first turned by any of the three players involved. Parra gave up a first inning home run Jose Martinez in that start but only allowed hits in two of the five innings he pitched and left with a 5-2 lead in what would lead to his sixth win. The Pelicans battered around Watts, plating five runs in five innings against him, and hit two home runs off of him (JOGE ALFAO and CIS GAYSON hit the two shots). The Pelicans went on to win that game 8-3. TE BEST CATCE IN TE WOLD?: Just like 2013, angers farmhands JOGE ALFAO and JOEY GALLO were named to the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game and play in the game today. Neither participated last year due to injury but both are this year. Alfaro is the starting catcher for the World Team, hitting ninth. Gallo is D-ing and hitting fifth for the US Team. The game takes place today at Target Field, the home of the Minnesota Twins, at 5:00 p.m. and will air on MLB Network. UNNING WILD: The Pelicans stole four bases last night and were not caught on the bases. CIS GAIA, NICK WILLIAMS, CISTOPE BOSTICK, and LUIS MENDEZ all swiped a bag. It matched a season-high in steals for the club who have stolen four bases five times now. It most recently happened against Lynchburg on June 30 on the road. The Pelicans are 22-for-24 stealing bases against the illcats in the 11 contests. Both caught stealings have been with Tyler Tewell behind the plate, who starts today for Lynchburg. TE AIKEN ACE: Southpaw ANDEW FAULKNE tossed another five scoreless frames on Friday en route to his eighth win, and fourth straight win, and has not allowed a run in 16 innings, breaking his own streak for longest scoreless stretch by a Pelicans pitcher. e is one of just two Carolina Leaguers to qualify for the EA title with only one loss (Frederick s Mark Blackmar, 5-1, is the other). Faulkner is second in the league in EA (2.10) trailing only yan Merritt (1.82), and has still yet to allow a home run, now in 94 1/3 innings. e has the most innings of any minor league pitcher without allowing a home run. The next closest is Wilmington Blue ocks right-hander Glenn Sparkman (69 1/3 innings). FOCING EOS: Lynchburg committed three errors last night. Opponents have made defensive blunders in each of the last five games against the Pelicans for a total of 13 errors. The errors have led to 7 unearned runs over the five contests. The Pelicans meanwhile are average more than an error per game but have made only three errors over the same stretch and only seven in the 13 July contests. I M COMING OME: On Friday, OYCE BOLINGE played his first home game since May 18. e was activated off of the disabled list on July 4 at Potomac. In his first game back at home, he launched a home run off of right-hander Lucas Sims. LIGTS OUT LECLEC: Flamethrower JOSE LECLEC tossed another scoreless inning on Saturday. Finally, however, an opponent managed to reach base against him. With one out, Will Skinner singled, ending a string of 16 batters in a row set down, the longest such stretch by a Pelicans pitcher this year. e has not allowed a run over eight outings, spanning 10 1/3 innings. STUTTING TEI FEATES: The Pelicans roster currently features four players highlighted in Baseball America s list of the angers Top 30 prospects, including two of the top 5, and two in the overall top 100 in MiLB. Catcher JOGE ALFAO (ranked No. 2 in the angers Top 30, No. 54 in the overall Top 100) and NICK WILLIAMS (3, 97) rank in the top 100. The other players in the Texas Top 30 are OF LEWIS BINSON (15) and P JOSE LECLEC (16). Unranked in the top 30, CIS GAIA is the Fastest Baserunner and PESTON BECK has the Best Outfield Arm. CISTOPE BOSTICK, traded from Oakland in December, was ranked No. 18 in the Athletics top 30 by BA. Third baseman JOEY GALLO (4, 60) and Ps ALEX CI CI GONZALEZ (5), KEONE KELA (18), and LP ALEXANDE CLAUDIO (27) were all on the Pelicans Opening Day oster and are now with the Double-A Frisco oughiders.
