MVC VOLLEYBALL WEEKLY RELEASE NO. 6 OCTOBER 2, 2017 BRADLEY (7-12, 0-5 MVC) Doubling Up Sophomore Hannah Angeli turned in 35 assists, 14 digs, two aces and two kills Saturday as she collected her team-leading 13th double-double of the year. Angeli needs just 25 assists for the most by a Bradley player since 2011. The last Brave with at least 13 double-doubles was Alise Tupuritis (14) in 2013 and no Bradley player has had at least 15 double-doubles since Sam Black had 15 in 2007. Angeli has joined Black (2008) as the only Bradley players in the last decade with at least 70 kills, 700 assists, 17 aces and 230 or more digs in a season. In fact, Angeli s team-high 17 aces are more than last year s team-high total of 16 by Abby Ihrke. Slimmest of Margins Through 19 matches, Bradley has already claimed more sets in 2017 (33) than the Braves did the entire 2016 season. In fact, Bradley s 33 sets won this fall are the team s best total since 2013 (53). Nearly 30 percent of Bradley s sets have been decided by just two points with the Braves owning a 10-10 record in those sets. In fact, over 40 percent of BU s sets in 2017 have had a fi nal margin of three points or fewer, including 44 percent of matches in MVC play. On the Mark Junior Erica Haslag pushed her league-leading kill total over 300 with a 10-kill effort Saturday at Drake. The 15th player in program history to post back-to-back seasons with 300 or more kills, she is just the seventh Brave to have 290 or more kills in three consecutive seasons and fi rst to join the list since Lindsay Stalzer in 2005. Haslag had a streak of 17 consecutive outings with 10 or more kills to open the season for the longest streak at Bradley since Stalzer had 21 straight in 2004. Her season total of 18 contests with at least 10 kills are the most on The Hilltop since Amy Angelos posted 20 in 2013. MVC VOLLEYBALL WEEKLY RELEASE NO. 6 OCTOBER 2, 2017 EVANSVILLE (6-10, 0-4 MVC) Career High Rachel Tam set career highs in kills (27) and attempts (79) in the Aces road tilt at Southern Illinois on Friday. Her kill total was the most for a UE player since Oct. 24, 2015. Her 79 attempts was second-most for an MVC player this year, just behind Lily Johnson s 88 against Illinois earlier this season. Rallying Together It has been two weeks since Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico and caused mass devastation. Head coach Manolo Concepcion, graduate assistant Melissa Rabell along with student-athletes Joselyn Coronel and Mildrelis Rodriguez are natives of the island and have rallied together to help their home land. A full team effort is teaming with the Evansville community to collect supplies to send. Showing Improvement A young Evansville team is showing steady improvement this season and that has been on display early on in conference play. Last season, the Purple Aces did not win a single set in MVC road action. This season, the squad has managed to take four sets in its fi rst three road tilts. The Redbirds lead the MVC in opponents hitting percentage (.151), opponents assists (10.94 per set) and opponents kills (11.75 per set). The Redbirds rank second in blocks (1.87 per set), digs (18.60 per set) and opponents service aces (0.79 per set). Always A Fight Through Illinois State s fi rst 18 matches of the season, the Redbirds have been swept just once. Illinois State s lone three-set loss came at the hands of host Baylor, on Aug. 26, 2017, just hours after a grueling 2-hour, 49-minute, fi ve-set loss to then-no. 15 Florida State. The Redbirds, conversely, have eight sweeps on their resume this season. Another Entry Illinois State s Courtney Pence etched her named into the Illinois State record book once again, this time with a 42-dig performance against Drake Friday that ranked as the third-most digs in a match in school history. Pence now owns seven of Illinois State s top 10 single-match dig totals.
