Juan Davis, Jr., has been on fire the past two games with 37 points and 9-11 shooting on 3-pointers. The series history is relatively new as the two teams have only met six times. UT-Arlington holds the 4-2 in advantage in the series and won the last matchup on Mar. 5, 2016 in dominating fashion 90-55 to close out the season. The Trojans had a season-opening victory in which Troy broke various scoring records. The 135 points scored were the most points in a game since Nov. 14, 2007 and were just five points shy of the most points scored this century after Troy put up 140 against Oakwood on Nov. 24, 2003. STAFF PHIL CUNNINGHAM Head Coach Campbellsville, 1990 Enters his fourth season as Troy s head basketball coach. In the 2014-15 season, he led the Trojans to a 9-22 record. Named the sixth head coach in Troy history in March 2013. Over the past 16 years, Cunningham s teams have played in the postseason 11 times, including seven trips to the NCAA tournament. Prior to being a head coach, he named one of the top 25 assistant coaches in the NCAA by Rivals.com and was recognized by The Hoop Scoop recruiting publication as one of the top NCAA Division I men s basketball assistant coaches. Cunningham s teams at Miss. State and WKU made 11 postseason appearances in 13 years, including seven NCAA Tournaments. The Bulldogs were SEC champions in 2004 and were SEC West Champs five years. SEC Tournament champions in 2002 and 2009. Played at Kentucky Wesleyan; won a NCAA Division II National Championship in 1987. Transferred to Campbellsville College, where he finished his career ranked among the school s all-time leaders in career assists. ON THE BENCH MARCUS GRANT Associate Head Coach Mississippi State, 1995 Previously worked at Mississippi State. In his eight years at MSU, Grant was a part of six postseason appearances, including three NCAA Tournament appearances (two SEC Western Division championships and one SEC Tournament championship). Played for Mississippi State from 1991-95, helping lead the Bulldogs to the 1995 NCAA Sweet 16 in his senior season. Played professionally overseas for eight years. BEN FLETCHER Assistant Coach Troy, 2004 Played for Troy from 2001-03. Under Fletcher s guidance in 2013-14, Hunter Williams made 98 3-pointers, setting the Troy single-season record, which was previously held by Fletcher. Fletcher led the Trojans to a regular season championship in 2009-10 and an NIT berth. Finished his career with 160 made 3-pointers, the sixth most in Troy s Division I history. ADAM HOWARD Assistant Coach Western Kentucky, 2008 Worked with NBA Draft Pick and current Miami Heat player Josh Richardson at Tennessee Was with Southern Miss. in 2012-13 when the team had a program-record 29 wins, claimed a share of the Conference USA Title and went a perfect 15-0 at home. Was a four-year letter winner at Western Kentucky where he went to the Sweet 16 in his senior season in 2008. MIKE WORLEY Director of Operations Denver, 1995 Previously spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Kilgore College in Texas. Assistant coach to former NBA and collegiate stand-out Todd Day Is the third all-time leading scorer in Colorado s state history with 2,369 points. At Coffeyville CC, Worley was named the first-ever National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Male Athlete of the Year in 1993 PATRICK MOYNIHAN Video Coordinator North Georgia, 2013 Enters his first season with Troy after spending two seasons as a graduate assistant at North Alabama. Graudated from North Georgia where he was a four-year letter winner for the Lions and scored more than 400 points in his career. Davis, Jr. was lethal from deep in hitting four 3-pointers to rack up 16 points for the Trojans (9-8) in the win. Jeremy Hollimon joined Davis, Jr. with 16 points. It was the senior's free throw shooting down the stretch that largely secured the victory for Troy. The Trojans looked like they were in the clear after two Hollimon free throws gave Troy a 74-67 lead with 57 seconds on the clock, but the drama was only just beginning. A 3-pointer by Jeremy Hollowell, who led Georgia State (8-7) with 19 points on the night, cut the lead to 74-70 with 42 seconds left. Two more free throws by Hollimon again looked to seal the win as Troy led 76-70 with 35 seconds left. The Panthers hit two free throws yet Hollimon responded with two more free throws of his own with 28 seconds to go. Those two points may have been the dagger, but Devin Mitchell hit a 3-pointer just five seconds later to cut the deficit back down to three. Wesley Person was fouled on the ensuing possession and had a chance to get it back to a two-possession game. His first free throw bounced off the iron and the second one fell true to get the lead back up to 79-75 with 21 seconds remaining. A layup by Mitchell, who was second on Georgia State with 15 points, cut the lead to 79-77. Kevin Baker followed suit with Person in going one-for-one from the line for an 80-77 lead and one last shot for the Panthers. With 11 seconds left and needing a 3-pointer to tie, the Panthers set up around the perimeter to attempt the game-tying shot. Mitchell got the ball, twisted and took an off-balanced shot from deep that clanged off the rim. Baker grabbed the rebound and sprinted down the court to run the clock out. Troy led 45-39 at the half to snap a two-game skid of trailing at halftime. Five different players scored in double-digits for Troy. On top of Davis, Jr. and Hollimon, DeVon Walker had 15 points, Kevin Baker had 14 and Jordon Varnado also had 14. TROY NOTES TROY IN SEASON OPENERS» Troy has not lost a season opener since 2011-12 when the Trojans fell on the road 90-85 at Texas Tech.» Troy is currently on a six--game winning streak in home season openers. Head coach Phil Cunningham has not lost a home opener in his tenure. The last home opener the Trojans lost in was in the 2008-09 season in a 87-66 loss to UAB. ROSTER BREAKDOWN» The Trojans 2016-17 roster features 15 players (13 scholarship student-athletes) representing four nations and six states. The total is one hire than last season s roster of 14 players. His older brother, Jarvis, played for Mississippi State and was recruited by coach Cunningham.» Jarvis, a power forward, played for the Bulldogs from 2006-2010. He led the NCAA in blocks during the 2007-08 season, tying Shaquille O Neal for the most blocks in a season in the SEC. In 2008-09, he broke that record with 170 blocks.» Jarvis, to this day, owns the NCAA Division I all-time shot block leader with 564 blocks. No one has come close to breaking that record in over 13 years.» Varnado was named SEC Defensive Player of the Year three consecutive years (2008, 2009, 2010). He ended his collegiate career with over 1,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 500 blocks, just one of two to do so.» Jarvis was drafted by the Miami Heat with the 41st pick in the 2010 NBA Draft. He last played for Dinamo Banco di Sardegna Sassari of the Italian Serie A.» Jordon continued what his brother started by leading the team with 37 blocks last season, which also put him at fourth in the.» He had at least one block in 23 out of the 30 games in which he played last season as a true freshman. This included a three block game at South Alabama and at home against the Jaguars. He has 13 games where he had at least two blocks. He has 23 total this season. PERSON s PEDIGREE» Wesley Person comes from a distinguished basketball background. His father, Wesley Person Sr., and uncle, Chuck Person, were both standouts at Auburn, and went on to have successful careers in the NBA. Chuck is the all-time leading scorer, racking up 2,311 points in his four years from 1982 through 1985, while Person s father is ranked third with 2,066 points during his four years, from 1990 to 1993. PETTY POINTS» The storyline of the Trojans season in 2015-16 was consistency. After starting the season 4-3 with wins over North Texas and South Florida, Troy fell off with only one more non-conference win, against Paine College, and a five-game losing streak to end the season. Troy dropped 10 of its first 11 conference games.» A key statistics in last year s schedule is 7-15. In games decided by 10 points or less, Troy was just 7-15. This included back-to-back games in which they lost by only three, 83-80 at Ole Miss and 84-81 at home against Arkansas State. RETURNING POINTS» Troy returns 80.6 percent of scoring from last season, which represents a 32.9 percent increase from last season (47.7 percent).» The 2,145 points was a 199 point increase from the 1,946 points scored in the 2014-15 season.» As a duo, Wesley Person and Jordon Varnado scored 930 points last season. That total represents 43.4 percent of scoring in 2014-15.» Of the players lost from last season, only two placed in the top-10 on the team in points. John Walton III scored 348 ponts on the year while Kelton Ford scored 60 for the Trojans. Three other players who did not return, Jordan Howard, Damion Ottman and Christian Harrison, played in a total of 21 games and accounted for nine points among the three. NUMERO UNO» Wesley Person was tabbed Troy s first-ever Division I Freshman of the Year in the 2014-15 season. He was named to the Preseason All- First Team for 2015-16 and finished on the All- Second Team, which is voted on by the league s coaches.» Following the 2014-15 season, Person was named to the All- Third team. He was the first underclassman in Troy s history to be named to an all-conference team. Person and Varnado represented Troy on the preseason awards list this year as Person was named to the Preseason All- Second Team and Varnado was named to the third team. TREY GOOD» Wesley Person made a 3-pointer in the first 61 of his career. That streak was the longest streak in the nation of consecutive games with a made 3-pointer. His streak came to an end when he was 0-for-2 from behind-the-arc in the second game of the season against Eastern Illinois.» He led the in made 3-pointers, was 28th in the nation in the same category, 19th in the nation in 3-pointers per game and ranked sixth in the in scoring. SUCCESS IN HIS BLOOD» DeVon Walker comes to Troy from the University of Florida, where he spent three seasons learning under current Oklahoma City Thunder coach Billy Donovan and one season under current coach Mike White.» Walker was a part of the 2014 Gators team that made it to the Final Four in Dallas, Texas where they fell to eventual national champion, UCONN.» Walker started in 16 games in his career at Florida and averaged 10.6 minutes per game in his final season in 2015-16.» He led the team with 30 minutes played in the exhibition match up against AUM and was second on the team with 14 points. He also led the team with six assists, two steals and three blocks. LEAVING ON A JET PLANE» Troy s non conference schedule includes 14 games against 13 different opponents from 13 different conferences.» Troy will face multiple opponents for the first time in school history. Up to seven different schools will go up against the Trojans for the first time, depending on if Troy faces SEMO or Chicago St. in the Las Vegas Classic.» On that note, Troy will be competing in the Las Vegas Classic from Dec. 17 through Dec. 23. Troy will play in Los Angeles, Calif. on Dec 17 against USC, Dec. 19 at Wyoming and then the final two match ups at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. Troy willf face Cornell on Dec. 22 and either SEMO or Chicago St. on Dec. 23.» Other road trips in the non-conference schedule include a game at Eastern Illinois on Nov. 21, at San Francisco on Nov. 23 and at Hawai i on Nov. 25. 7

The Trojans had nine total wins all of last season. ONE» The Trojans have the most blocks in the conference with 75 in 17 games. Jordon Varnado has four games this season with three or more blocks. TWO» Troy is currently ranked second in the conference in rebounding offense. Troy is grabbing 40.2 per game, which is just 1.8 rebounds behind Coastal Carolina. His field goal percentage of 51.5 percent (67-130) ranks 11th in the conference.
