CAMEL NOTES The Lady Camels remained unbeaten and moved to 4-0 with a 48-33 win over Longwood on Tuesday, securing their best start since the 1985-86 season. Campbell has allowed the second-fewest points through four games in program history, surrendering just 175 tallies to date. The 1973-74 squad is the only CU team in history to allow fewer points, yielding just 147. The 33 points allowed to Longwood is a Gore Arena record, and the least allowed by a Lady Camel team since Nov. 30, 1997, when CU defeated St. Andrews 82-31 in Carter Gymnasium. Campbell has wins of 18, 17, 16 and 15 points this season, owning a 16.5 margin of victory. That margin is also the secondlargest in program history through four games, trailing only the 1981-82 Lady Camels. That season, the first under head coach Wanda Watkins, outscored opponents 362-265 for an average of 24.3 points per game. Junior guard Tonisha Baker leads Campbell with team-highs of 11.5 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. The High Point, N.C. native posted the first double-double by a Lady Camel this season in CU s win over Longwood Tuesday, gathering 13 points and 11 rebounds. Senior forward Katelyn Bass adds 10.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, while junior post Jazmine Cooper tacks on 9.8 points and 4.8 boards a contest. SCOUTING THE PANTHERS GSU is 0-2 on the year after losses to Arizona and Florida State. Kendra Long leads the Panthers on the year at 18.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. Chan Harris also posts 10.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, while Tiffany Anderson and Sade Means collect 9.0 and 8.5 points per game. Georgia State, a former Atlantic Sun Conference rival, owns the edge in the alltime series 13-11. The teams decided two A-Sun Tournament titles in their series history, with Campbell winning the 2000 and GSU taking the 2001 titles. SCOUTING THE COLONELS EKU is 1-2 after picking up its first win of the season at Western Michigan. Raechele Gray leads the Colonels at 12.0 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. Carla Booth follows with 10.3 points per game, while Alex Jones and Brittany Coles add 9.0 per contest. The meeting will be the first ever between EKU and the Lady Camels. NEXT UP After GSU Thanksgiving Classic play, the Lady Camels will return home to take on Winston-Salem State. The game will part of Campbell University Education Day, treating area fifth graders to the contest, which will feature an 11:45 a.m. tip. CU GAME NOTES BLOCK PARTY The Lady Camels racked up nine blocks as a team in their season-opening win over Montreat last Saturday, tying a 32-yearold single-game program record. The mark dates back to Jan. 17, 1979, when the Lady Camels defeated North Carolina Central 98-79 in Buies Creek. Campbell then hit the mark again when they returned home to face Western Carolina, posting nine rejections against the Catamounts. Campbell has registered 29 team blocks already this season. Last season, Campbell broke the program s single-season blocked shots record, recording 84 denials. The mark surpassed the 2009-10 team s total of 74. CAMPBELL RETURNS TO BIG SOUTH After 17 years, Campbell rejoins the Big South in 2011-12. Campbell, a founding member of the Big South, was 80-26 in conference games from 1986-94, making six consecutive league tournament finals appearances from 1987-92. Campbell won the 1989 title game, and earned the 1990-91 regular season championship with a perfect 12-0 record in league play. The Lady Camels also shared the 1987-88 regular season championship with Radford. Over that time, Lady Camels were named Big South Player of the Year four times and First Team All-Conference 12 times, THE SERIES: GEORGIA STATE 11-13, 5-5 home, 4-7 away, 2-1 neutral 12/8/94 at Georgia State * 92-84 W 3/2/95 GEORGIA STATE * 68-71 L 3/10/95 Georgia State! 85-65 W 1/6/96 GEORGIA STATE * 67-52 W 2/29/96 at Georgia State * 72-56 W 1/4/97 at Georgia State * 66-79 L 2/27/97 GEORGIA STATE * 85-78 W 2/5/98 at Georgia State * 66-68 L 1/4/99 GEORGIA STATE * 64-58 W 2/4/99 at Georgia State * 70-46 W 1/8/00 at Georgia State * 81-72 W 2/26/00 GEORGIA STATE * 78-75 W 3/11/00 Georgia State # 66-49 W 1/13/01 GEORGIA STATE * 68-55 W 2/17/01 at Georgia State * 65-74 L 3/10/01 vs. Georgia State $ 62-64 L 1/9/02 at Georgia State * 58-67 L 1/29/02 GEORGIA STATE * 56-68 L 1/20/03 at Georgia State * 56-84 L 2/27/03 GEORGIA STATE * 47-61 L 1/3/04 at Georgia State * 76-85 L 3/6/04 GEORGIA STATE * 53-71 L 1/27/05 at Georgia State * 49-61 L 2/5/05 GEORGIA STATE * 41-61 L * Atlantic Sun Conference game! Those Campbell teams still rank highly in a number of Big South records, including points scored, fewest points allowed, scoring margin, field goals, rebound margin, assists and steals. The 1987-88 CU team still holds the scoring offense record at 82.2 points per game. Individual records like Tammy Brown s single-season scoring average of 23.9 points per game in 1990-91, Regina McKeithan s 90 total points and Denise Ford s 42 combined rebounds in the 1988 conference tournament also stand in the league record books to this day. Wanda Watkins, the 1987 and 1981 Big South Coach of the Year, still ranks fifth on the conference all-time wins list despite the hiatus. Watkins is also the A-Sun s alltime wins leader with 163 career victories in the league. BAKER EARNS PRESEASON HONOR Campbell junior guard Tonisha Baker has been named to the College Sports Madness Big South Preseason All-Conference First Team. A 5-foot-8 guard from High Point, N.C., Baker has led the Lady Camels in scoring in each of her first two seasons in Buies Creek, earning Atlantic Sun First Team All-Conference honors as a sophomore and league all-freshman accolades in 2009-10. Da Naria Erwin Spencer (Radford), Devon Brown (Liberty), Avery Warley (Liberty) and Shamia Brown (High Point) joined Baker on the First Team. Dequesha McClanahan (Winthrop), Karlee Taylor (Presbyterian), Emily Frazier (Liberty), Cheyenne Parker (High Point) and Catrina Green (Gardner-Webb) made the Second Team. WATKINS APPROACHING 500 WINS MARK One of the longest tenured coaches in NCAA women s basketball history, Wanda Watkins has gathered countless honors and milestones during her 30 year stay at Campbell. Entering her 31st year with the Lady Camel program, Watkins is the 25th winningest active coach in the Division I ranks, and is approaching women s basketball s top-50 in all-time wins. Last season, Watkins became the 10th Division I women s basketball coach in NCAA history to coach 30 or more seasons at the same institution. Watkins is one of seven on that list still coaching. Watkins is by far the all-time wins leader in Lady Camel basketball history. Since taking over as head coach in 1981, Watkins has led her teams to a 464-378 mark and has recorded 19 winning records. BAKER HIGHLIGHTS 11 RETURNING LADY CAMELS Tonisha Baker highlights a squad that returns 11 letterwinners in 2011-12, includ-

CAMPBELL LADY CAMELS ing four starters from last season. Baker, a High Point, N.C. native, averaged 11.9 points and 6.3 rebounds per game a year ago on her way to First Team All-Atlantic Sun honors. Campbell s four other returning starters include junior forward Jazmine Cooper, senior guard Kate Cloxton and senior guard Amanda O Neill, who all started at least 26 games each a year ago. Cooper added 9.8 points and 6.2 rebounds, while Cloxton tacked on 6.9 points and 4.0 assists per outing. O Neill tacked on 5.2 points and 4.0 rebounds, tying for the team lead with 48 steals. MIDSEASON TURNAROUND Last season, Campbell posted one of the biggest midseason turnarounds in the country, winning eight games in the month of January alone on the way to a second consecutive No. 3 seed in the A- Sun Tournament. The Lady Camels began the year 1-11, but won seven games in a row in January to pull to 8-11 on the year. CU then finished 12-6 the rest of the way. The latter mark includes an 8-2 finish at home, and by season s end, the Lady Camels stood 13-17 overall and 12-8 in conference play. Campbell s 12 wins in league action were the most since the 2000-01 team went 16-2 in A-Sun games. For the eighth time, a Lady Camel was named First Team All-Atlantic Sun, as sophomore Tonisha Baker collected allconference honors. Campbell took season sweeps from Jacksonville, Mercer and Lipscomb on the year, and added historic performances in home wins over North Florida, East Tennessee State and USC Upstate. The Lady Camels topped UNF in a double overtime thriller before edging ETSU in late February. The win was CU s first ever over the Buccaneers. In the Campbell home finale, the Lady Camels exploded for 98 points, a Gore Arena record, in a 28-point drubbing of USC Upstate, as Baker posted 30 points. Lauren Yesh and Jazmine Cooper, meanwhile, added double-doubles in the final game of the regular season. CAMPBELL TO HOLD EDUCATION DAY For the second-straight year, Campbell will host an Education Day. The date, slated for Nov. 29, will feature a Lady Camel basketball game, as CU takes on Winston- Salem State at 11:45 a.m. Last season, the Lady Camels hosted NC Central, hosting area fifth graders for a day. Before moving to Virginia, Edwards was the 2008-09 Kentucky State Sophomore of the Year at North Hardin High in Radcliff, Ky. Leverette (Turkey, N.C./Union HS) comes from the same high school as one of the all-time great Lady Camels, April Cromartie. Leverette, a speedy guard, averaged 22.1 points per game for Union High as a senior. AGAINST THE BIG SOUTH Over the last six years, Campbell is 8-18 against Big South schools, going 0-4 last season. Campbell was 4-1 against its new (and former) conference rivals in 2009-10, posting wins over Charleston Southern, High Point, UNC Asheville and Winthrop. The Lady Camels have played at least two games against Big South foes since the 1996-97 season, going 11-30 over that span.
