Krum Athletic Department February 20, 2014 BFND Spotlight The 7th grade A team placed 4th in the District Tournament February 5th-7th. The Bobcats played Aubrey in Thursday's first round matchup and came away with a 2 point victory. Saturday morning, in the second round of the tournament, the 7th grade Bobcats faced off against top seeded Celina. Celina had beaten Krum by large margins in both of their first two meetings, but the Bobcats of KMS made it tough on Celina in the third match-up. Krum fought hard but came up short, losing 37-39 to the eventual champion of the district tournament. Later that afternoon the Bobcats played
in the 3rd place game against Gainesville, a team that the Bobcats split with in the regular season. The game was a tough, lowscoring battle, but Krum came up short, falling 19-25. The Bobcats placed 4th in the tournament and finished the season with a record of 6-10. Bryan Camunez, Brent Boone, Trey Smith, Major Martin, Dylan Vargas, Brady Russell, Miguel Cordova, Johnny Rodriguez, Major Martin and Brice Coffey all scored throughout the weekend for the Bobcats and each played a pivotal role in the team's success throughout the season.
The eighth-grade Lady Cats hosted Aubrey last Thursday. Both teams played hard and ran the court well. The B team came up short losing 7-17. The girls ran offense well but we just couldn t get the ball to fall in that basket. On the defensive end they hustled and caused lots of turnovers but we just had a hard time turning it into points. Scoring for the B team: Kiley Stone, 1 point; Ali Manry, 4 points; McKenzie Hendrix, 2 points. The A team had an exciting game winning by 3 points. We came out on fire! Jumped in our press and caused lots of turnovers that turned into points for us. We ran the court extremely well and executed offense. Olivia Kamesch had a really good game. She was hard to stop in the post-position. Kamryn Downhour and Alyssa Perez played a really good game hitting some crucial baskets from the outside. We had some great defense by Caroline Shipley, Hannah Daily, Lindsey Hill and Autumn Colston. Scoring for the Lady Cats were: Linsday Hill, 2 points; Kamryn Downhour, 6 points; Alyssa Perez, 8 points; Olivia Kamesch, 13 points. On Monday, Feb. 2, the Lady Cats traveled to Argyle for
the last game of the season. Both teams came up short on the scoreboard. The B team lost 7-23. Scoring for the B team: Morgan Johnson, 2 points; Shelby Seay, 2 points; Ali Manry, 1 point. The A team lost 15-22. Scoring for the A team: Kamryn Downhour 3 points; Autumn Colston, 4 points; Caroline Shipley, 3 points; Alyssa Perez, 3 points; and Oliva Kamesch, 2 points. Krum will host the District Tournament on Thursday and Saturday. The eighth-grade Lady Cats A team will play Gainesville at 5:30 p.m. Games on Thursday will played at Krum Middle School and on Saturday all games will be at Krum High School. Go, Lady Cats!
Krum 7 th Grade Girls Finish Third Krum s 7 th Grade girls won 2 out of 3 in last week s District Tournament to finish third. Krum defeated Celina 16-14 in the opening round, but fell 37-18 to top seeded Argyle in the semifinals. They bounced back to outscore Gainesville 30-14 in the third place game. The 7 th graders finished the season with a record of 7-8. Coach Ray Miller commented, I m really proud of this group. They were very coachable and worked hard each day. Krum won an offensive struggle against Celina. Points were hard to come by for both teams. Krum held a 14-7 advantage after three quarters, but Celina scored 6 in a row to cut the lead to 14-13. Kennedy Stokes had Krum s only bucket of the fourth quarter and it proved to be the winning margin. Stokes scored 6, Reese Robinson had 4, and Carlie Carroll, Rachelle Johnson, and Paige Orsi each tossed in 2. The Lady Cats played Argyle a much tougher game than earlier in the week, but the Lady Eagles pulled away in the final quarter to win 37-18. Stokes led with 8. Robinson, Orsi, Carroll, Johnson, and Hailey Luttrell had 2 each. Krum led from start to finish against Gainesville. They led 8-3 after one, 19-6 at the half, and 28-12 after three. The entire roster saw ample playing time and contributed to the win. Stokes paced all scorers with 12. Following were: Johnson-6, Robinson-4, Orsi-4, Cali Marquis- 3, and Morgan Pedroso-1. Argyle defeated Aubrey in the finals.
