Wisconsin Cowboy Dressage Gatherings and Schooling Shows Rules and Procedures Find all Cowboy Dressage Rules, Tests and Score Sheets, Call Sheets, videos and information: www.cowboydressage.com/competition.html Rider Division Definition Open Adult professionals (An individual who makes his/her living instructing or training in the industry) Amateur Adults (non-pro) and Youth may enter Youth Under 18 (An individual who has not reached his/her 18th birthday as of December 31st of the current competition year) CALLERS The rider is encouraged to memorize their tests. The use of a caller is not mandatory. Cowboy Dressage World allows the rider to use a caller of their choice, however, the ultimate responsibility for accurate and correct riding of the test falls upon the rider. If the rider chooses to use a caller, it is the rider s responsibility to arrange for one. Wisconsin Cowboy Dressage will not be providing callers for riders. * A note about gaited horses: Gaited horses may ride in any test division appropriate for their rider (Open, Am, Jr), but will be judged on the Walk/Jog/Lope gaits defined in the test. If the gaited horse cannot jog, this may result in a very low score. We would hope the gaited horses wholeheartedly support the Gaited Test Division, which is designed specifically for the gaited horse. High Point Award Calculations and Eligibility Requirements: 1. Points per class placing: 1st(10), 2nd(9), 3rd(8), 4th(7), 5th(6), 6th(5), 7th(4), 8th(3), 9th(2), 10th(1) 2. Points will be totaled for each Rider Division (example: Open, Amateur and Youth) for each horse and rider combination to determine High Point Awards. 3. Open and Amateur classes with less than three competitors will count toward high point; however, calculated as follows: If a class has fewer than 3 riders, to earn 1st place points, the rider must score over 70%, and to earn 2nd place points, the rider must score over 65%. 4. Each horse and rider combination must show in a minimum of FOUR classes overall. 5. Each horse is limited to FOUR under saddle classes per day and FOUR ground classes per day. 6. Top FOUR highest scoring classes will be counted for high point 7. Freestyle does not count toward high point awards. 8. Cancer Survivor and Veterans High Point will be awarded to the rider with the highest average from their 4 highest test scores at the end of the 2 day Show. 9. Ties will be broken by using the highest Soft Feel score found on any of the four tests used in the averaging for each rider involved in the tie. 10. All High-point awards will be handed out at the conclusion of the show Sunday evening. A Note About Freestyle: If you are considering showing any of the freestyles please be mindful: The Cowboy Dressage Freestyle is a showcase of accomplishments between horse and rider through the levels. The horse and rider must be prepared and able to do the Cowboy Dressage maneuvers successfully with grace, finesse, and respect the freestyle deserves. Partnership, Harmony, and Soft Feel are still a priority when scoring the Freestyle. The Freestyle should be fun and entertaining, while still a celebration of our finest horsemanship. Wisconsin Cowboy Dressage General Rules 1. Entries must be paid prior to the show or at check in. Any unpaid entries will not receive a number. 2. Entries must be made on the form provided herein, fully completed, with all required signatures, and accompanied by a check or money order in the full amount, payable to the WCD --any unpaid entry shall not be recorded. All entries postmarked after closing date will be considered post entries and post entry fee of $15.00 will collected before a number is given. 3. Management reserves the right to change or alter the official listed classes without notice prior to or during the show. 4. Ride schedules will be set by tests and may not follow class list order. 5. Wisconsin Cowboy Dressage reserves the right to excuse anyone from the show for abuse and/or neglect of their animal(s), inappropriate behavior, etc. 6. Use of whips/crops/spurs only one whip may be carried during a ride. A crop or standard dressage whip not to exceed 4 in length is allowed. Excessive use of the whip or spurs will be penalized. 7. You must use the same hand hold throughout your test. You cannot switch from one hand to two or vice versa during the test. 8. Coggins & Health Certificates. All horses coming onto the show grounds must have a current coggins. All out of state horses (one year old and older) must have a health certificate issued within thirty (30) days prior to show. 9. This show encourages feedback from its owners, riders, and trainers. Please feel free to stop by the office and fill out our feedback form to provide us with your experience and offering constructive input for future events. 10. All Releases MUST BE SIGNED before numbers are handed out. 11. All minors must be wear an approved SEI Helmet while mounted. 12. Dogs are not allowed unless they are properly identified service dogs and on a proper harness. NO exceptions, please. A refund of class fees will be issued upon receipt of a veterinary certification that the horse cannot compete in the show at this time. ASSUMPTION OF RISK, WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY I, ( Participant ), acknowledge that I have voluntarily applied to participate in the following equine activities, which activities are produced and/or sponsored by Wisconsin Cowboy Dressage, Inc. (Formerly know as Wisconsin Western Dressage Club, Inc) Cowboy Dressage Clinics, Schooling Shows & Events In consideration of the Event Sponsors allowing me to participate in the Activities, I agree as follows: 1. Assumption of Risks. I acknowledge that there are numerous inherent risks associated with equine activities, including but not limited to: (a) the propensity of equines to behave in such ways as to result in injury or death to persons on or around them; (b) the unpredictability of an equine s reaction to such things as sounds, sudden movements, unfamiliar objects, persons or other animals; (c) collisions with other animals; and (d) the potential of participants to act in a negligent manner that may contribute to injury to the participant or others. With full knowledge and appreciation of these and other inherent risks associated with the Activities, I freely and voluntarily assume such risks. 2. Waiver and Release of Liability. Understanding and assuming the risks of the Activities, I hereby waive any and all rights to sue and hereby release the Event Sponsors and their respective directors, officers, members, employees, volunteers, agents, contractors and representatives (collectively, the Releasees ) from any and all liability, loss, claims or actions that I, my assignees, heirs, or legal representatives may have for property damage, injury or death (including to my horse) resulting from the Activities. This waiver and release is effective even if the property damage, injury or death is caused by, or contributed to by, actions or failure to act of the Releasees that constitute ordinary negligence or a violation of any applicable law pertaining to equine activity liabilities. 3. Permission to Summon Medical Assistance. If I am injured during the course of participating in the Activities and am unable to verbally communicate, I hereby grant permission to the Event Sponsors to summon medical assistance for me if they deem it necessary in their sole discretion. 4. Intent. This document is intended to be as broad and inclusive as applicable state law permits. If any clause conflicts with applicable law, only that clause will be void but the remainder shall stay in full force and effect. I HAVE READ THIS ASSUMPTION OF RISK, WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY, AND I AGREE TO BE FULLY BOUND BY ITS TERMS. I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS A RELEASE OF CLAIMS AND THAT I AM ASSUMING RISKS INHERENT TO MY PARTICIPATION. "Notice: A person who is engaged for compensation in the rental of equines or equine equipment or tack or in the instruction of a person in the riding or driving of an equine or in being a passenger upon an equine is not liable for the injury or death of a person involved in equine activities resulting from the inherent risks of equine activities, as defined in section 895.481(1)(e) of the Wisconsin Statutes."
