This is nothing too hard, really just an opportunity to work out which group you will fit into best. A group assessment session is usually held on the club grounds in February. If you are unable to attend the group assessment session you will need to arrange, at your own expense, a private assessment with one of our instructors. Riders must wear approved riding boots and riding helmet with Australian/New Zealand Standard 3838: 1998 or the European equivalent. Riders should present themselves neatly attired with shirt, tie and jodhpurs with hair tied back. Please present horses clean, trimmed and ensure all gear is suitable and well maintained.

April 9 & 10 2016 This month s rally themes are - a) Arena Etiquette, b) Rhythm, suppleness and contact (the first 3 points in the training scale) c) Rider Position. Note that training themes have been incorporated into the program to give instructors a guideline only. Obviously, each instructor will assess her riders ability and understanding of the topic and structure their coaching accordingly. Instructors Saturday: Cindy Oud, Liz Tollarzo Sunday: Cindy Oud and Liz Tollarzo Saturday Sunday 8.00 Put up arenas everyone!!! 9.00 Mounted instruction 9.00 Mounted instruction End Take down arenas everyone!!! Lecture 2016 Goal Sheets / Arena Etiquette / School Figures Riders Please Note: All riders in the first lesson on Sunday afternoon please wait and help pull down arenas, as it makes it very late for the last lesson to finish, put horses away and then pull in arenas. Confirming your place. For the next rally we need to know numbers by April 5 at the latest. We cannot take additional names after this date. This is so that we can organise enough instructors to cover our classes, and so the class groups can be constructed and confirmed by instructors. Notice of cancellation is also important as it greatly affects both lesson size and composition if you re unable to make it to the rally because of a last minute glitch, please let Didy know, so we can re-arrange classes without causing hassles for other riders, or for our instructors. ARENA ETIQUETTE The first rule of the arena should always be courtesy! Remember that everyone has a living animal underneath and not every movement is always under control. Be prepared for the worst and do not get too wrapped up with your own horse not to notice what is happening around you! Do not expect that every rider sees you and remember that it is not impolite to call out if you are getting too close or planning to pass. This will announce your intentions and tell other riders what you plan to do. Try to remember that everyone in the arena is there to enjoy their equine companion and to practice their riding skills, so don't be stubborn. Common sense must always be used. Be aware of your total environment to avoid collisions. Slower gaits take the inside track. Walk on the inside track. The outside track is always given to horses working the faster gait. The international rule is to pass left shoulder to left shoulder when passing head on (in opposite directions) and look where you are going. Keep one horse's length from any other horse. If you are overtaking traffic in the same direction, pass to the inside with care and plenty of clearance. Better yet, make a large circle back to the inside or cut across the arena to avoid passing. Never pass between the rail and another rider on the track. Always pass on the inside and pass wide. Give right of way - be generous giving right of way even if it is not technically the correct right of way. When turning, check your "rear view" first. Look behind you before stopping suddenly. Halting on the track is always unexpected! It is never a social time or an opportunity to hold court when in the arena. It is unfair to make your horse stand in a busy, high traffic area while you socialise and it is dangerous to other riders. Announce your intentions telling other riders what you plan to do: "Passing on your left" Do not circle in front of another rider by cutting them off or pinning them against the wall or another horse. http://www.austindressageunlimited.org/arenaetiquetteandsafety.pdf

March 2016 If nominated as a Member of the Month, you will receive a gift voucher from Budget Stockfeeds and a DAWA mug. The member of the month is presented to one rider each month that stands out for good presentation of themselves and the horse, as well as helping with tasks at the rallies. The committee present selects the recipient over the weekend. Jaimee Cotter Dressage could not function if it was not for the many volunteers who give up their valuable time to run competitions and contribute to the discipline. Riders now have a chance to say thank you. The member of the month award is presented to the one rider each month who stands out for good presentation of themselves and their horse, as well as helping with tasks at the rallies. Good presentation includes DAWA uniform as well as general neatness and cleanliness. The recipient each month is selected by the Committee present over the weekend. For more information on what you should be wearing, and how to present your horse, please refer to the first newsletter for the year on dress and gear standards.

Non-members may advertise at $5.00 per newsletter (up to 12 lines of text, images or combination) or $25 per newsletter for a full-page advertisement (an additional $5 per newsletter applies to any changes made to full page ads).

Events and General Information Rallies are held every month, March to November. The first rally of the year is an Evaluation and Goal Setting day. Each rally runs Saturday and Sunday with two mounted lessons a day. A demonstration or lecture is run during the lunch break by an external specialist or one of DAWA s coaches.
