Roosters make North V South (1) step away from state side U15s North v South State selection On Wednesday the 11 th up to 12 Roosters trialled in the 1 st round of WARL state selection. There were (2) 25min games and over (90) players involved on the night. With such a large contingent of players trialling, it was obviously difficult for the selectors on the night. Of our 12 or so young Roosters competing, in the end (8) were chosen for the next step North V South matches to be played on the 28 th next Saturday at Lathlain park. Those players chosen were, Akua R, Kobe Tuhk, Jaxon E, Jake D, Tonga E, Jason N, Cody Mc & Jessie D. Well-done to all those boys and in particular well-done to all those players who fronted up on the night. There were at least one or two who were to say the least unlucky. We wish all the boys the best of Roosters luck. NvS will be played at Brownes Stadium Vic Park. U12s North v South State selection This past Wednesday many of our U12s trialled at Curtain Uni for this year s 1 st round of state U12 trials. It was a wet night although this didn t dampen the enthusiasm of youth with good numbers trialling. All our young Roosters gave their best on the night. The major plus that new families at the club may not realise is this age group and the age group below have struggled for numbers here at Fremantle over the last few seasons. The age group of U12s has shown an outstanding resurgence and with combining the age groups of U11s & U12s there is good numbers. To those boys who played on Wednesday well-done! Congrats to Xavier V-L for making the South side in the U12 NvS. The North v South U12 will play before the U15s and City V Kiwi male & female senior sides at Brownes Stadium formerly Lathlain Oval on Saturday the 28 th.
Club News Roosters travel to Sydney with REDS Development Squad Many members may not be aware over the off-season from October 2011 (6) of our current junior Roosters have been training after being selected in the U15s Western Australian REDS development Squad. After a good season for the Roosters (5) young men plus (1) who had previously not played for a club had less than a month before beginning a strict training & education regime within the WARL development squad. The training and education consisted of a high level of fitness, education in weight training while being supplemented with education on nutrition. The Freo boys trained Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and alternate Saturday mornings. Again this was from October last year. The squad trained out of Belmont, Curtain Uni and selected beaches and other grounds. Over this period the REDS squad played the WA combined high schools representative side. All this training was provided by WARL development coaches and overseen by Ian Prout head coach. The squad had a break over Christmas then came back into full training culminating in a trip to Sydney - this would be the first development side to travel from WA in many years. The trip was as much a fact finding trip as it was a test for our WA squad. In Sydney, the REDS squad trialled against South Sydney U15s and Mascot U15s. The REDS although not coming away with a win, performed well and showed that with the correct training environment and program WA Rugby League can match it with the Eastern seaboard states while it also has improved over the last (5) years and is heading in the right direction. The boys also spent time visiting the Cronulla Sharks training and the National Centre of Indigenous of Excellence. Those Freo players to make the squad were Akua R U15s, Kobe Tuhk U15s, Jaxon E U15s, Jason N U14s & Cody Mc U14. Also Jake D who now is a current Rooster is in our U16s was part of the squad. This was an outstanding result for the club; Jaxon is in his first season of Rep football, while Akua & Kobe were both selected in the state U15s in 2011 at the age of 14yrs, which again is an outstanding effort. Jason N & Cody Mc are both U14s while Jason has been playing since U7s and has always been a bright Rugby League prospect, Cody is in only his 2 nd season of Rugby League and had an absolute break out season in 2011. Jake who came to the club from Atwell College s Rugby League program is also another bright prospect. All the boys were great ambassadors for the club and conducted themselves professionally throughout their time over East. The club wishes all these boys the best of luck in the future and hopes that they learned a lot over there and enjoyed the trip.
Club News Rooster s seniors have mixed start to the season. The seniors started the first round against the Kalamunda Bulldogs with wins in the WLT & Reserve grade. In A-grade the Bulldogs came away with a win in a mistake ridden match, where the Roosters bombed at least (2) tries in the last 10mins. It was Ken Allen day for the club so to have (2) of the (3) seniors sides come away with a win was positive. This past Saturday the seniors played North Beach Sea Eagles in their 2 nd round fixtures. With the WLT coming away with a convincing win early in the day our Reserve grade went down to a well drilled Sea Eagles outfit. In the main game the A-grade came up against grand finalists North Beach. In an arm wrestle of a game our seniors stood tall to come away with a 18-12 great win against the Sea Eagles! It was massive to see a good crowd to watch the game- On the day. The supporters were well rewarded for the effort of coming down, with the A-grade side turning the previous week s football around and came away with the scalp of the Sea Eagles. Club president Andrew Crellin said this is what it s all about our sides up against the best, giving their best and coming away with the win. It s been a busy start to the season for the entire club, although with hard work a healthy player roster the club will be there at the business end of the season. What more can you ask for on a Saturday afternoon, watching good football with friends and family, within a great community like the Fremantle Roosters, coming away with a win against North Beach, this is why we do the hard work and what it s all about!
