MICHIGAN STATE MUZZLELOADING ASSOCIATION NEWS LETTER MAY/JUNE 2018 Hi everyone. Spring is in full swing now. Blossoms are on the fruit trees and turkey season is on. I hope everyone is well. Shooting season is gearing up now also. I just visited the Sauk Trail Muzzleloaders for their 30 shot mega woodswalk. We had a lovely sunny day for shooting. The always friendly group welcomed us with open arms. We proceeded to work our way through the fun and challenging course. Friendly banter followed all the groups walking the trail. After we returned to camp and a large pot of stew. Our old friend Norm Blaker was in camp. Many stories new and old were shared. It was a very enjoyable day. The kind of day that reminds us of why we are involved in this sport. It is as social as competitive. Forging lifelong friendships. We still have lots of tickets to sell on our beautiful rifle built by Dave Maddox. If you would like some or a bundle to sell just contact me. You never know which ticket will be the Lucky winner. This year our Michigan State Rifle and Pistol shoot is moving to Grand Valley Cap and Ballers club. Bring a friend and help make this a wonderful shoot. The more competitors we have the more fun there is to be had. The more stories there will be to share. Maybe someone will actually be able to teach me how to shoot. With the shoot running from July 11 to July 15 there is lots of range time available. Five days of shooting for the minimal cost of $20. This is one of the best bargains in shooting. A month later from August 16 to August 19 you can enjoy 4 days of shotgun shooting. The Michigan State Shotgun Championship will be held at Grand Valley also. Another great value and more fun than you can believe. Enjoy this spring and summer. I look forward to seeing everyone at a club soon. SPRING BROOK TRADING CO. Founders of Manistee Muzzle Loading Club Now Selling Schuetzen & Swiss Call Jeff- 269-792-4384 Ron 616-836--5760 Following your brilliant exhibition of marksmanship or related skills at Fort Rendezvous Manistee, Michigan, 49660 Over a friendly game of pool in the basement of Dick Lijewski's home, a club was formed by Bob Adams and Dick Lijewski. In a few weeks, another friend (a gun collector), John Fischer joined the group. Every meeting brought in a few new faces. Early club meetings were informal and held at member's homes. While at one of these meetings held over the pool table at Dick Lijewski's, the name "Manistee Clan Muzzle Loading Club" was hashed over and approved. We, the individual owners of muzzle loading arms, realizing the benefits to be derived from organized rather than individual effort in rifle, pistol and shotgun shooting, agree to advance and promote this particular sport for the common good of all members. By our efforts, we hope to maintain high standards of sportsmanship, safety and good fellowship among all who shall participate in this activity.

Eaton Rapids, Mi 48827 HUNT OF A LIFETIME The Hunt of a lifetime program sends kids and young adults under the age if 21 with life threatening diseases on hunting and fishing trips. This non-profit organization is devoted to fulfilling the outdoors wishes of these children. These are trips that the Disney owned make-a-wish foundation won t do. The Bridgeport Gun Club has taken this as our favorite charity. On March 23rd, as we hosted our weekly lenten fish fry, Hunt of a lifetime representatives were present telling their story. They passed out information and collected donations. The club will donate profit from the days fish fry to the foundation. This year we served over 1900 paid meals on that day. We were happy to donate $9500 this year. They also collected over $500 in donations. They will be able to full fill the dreams of multiple kids with our help. This is personal to our club. We have had the son of our members sent on a deer hunt by this foundation. They were very supportive to him and his whole family. We will continue to host a fundraising day every year in the future. BRIDGEPORT SPRING NOVELTY SHOOT April 15th we held our spring novelty shoot at the Bridgeport Gun Club. Snow, sleet, freezing rain, rain and wind. A wonderful display of Mother Nature s options. Diane, brother Larry and I set up the course for the day. We were joined by 3 intrepid souls that day. We shot thru the course then enjoyed pulled pork sandwiches. It wasn t the busiest day by any means but a good time was had by all. Our rendezvous is coming up June 15-18. Novelty targets on the the range Saturday and Sunday. 20 targets each day open to rifle, pistol and trade gun. There is also a 20 target 3d archery course and a 20 target tomahawk and knife walk. Those open on Friday. Campers and shooters can join us for breakfast in the clubhouse Saturday and Sunday mornings. Roberta and her crew will
again serve us a wonderful breakfast those mornings. Saturday evening we will enjoy a camp pot luck dinner. So come spend Father s Day weekend with us. We look forward to seeing you then. Remember this is your newsletter, not mine. Promote your club and by hearing from you on the fun you had visiting another club helps their club and yours. Sorry about the ranting and raving, I remember what Dennis Neely said. I should be getting so much news that I have to decide what issue it goes in.
