Thompson on Kooroc Supplementary Report: Taree 2 April 2016 Benchmark 55 Handicap 1005m: Stewards today concluded an inquiry into the reason Deceptive broke down badly in the off foreleg near the 450m. Evidence was taken from trainer Mrs J. Graham who presented treatment and veterinary records for the mare, rider R. Thompson and race day veterinarian Mr A. Owen. Stewards found passing the 450m Deceptive fractured both sesamoids in the off foreleg and was subsequently euthanized. Taree 26 April 2016 Class 2 Handicap 1250m: A. Cavallo was fined $200 (AR 137A (5) (a) (i)) for using the whip on Above Suspicion in four consecutive strides before the 100m. Kempsey 21 May 2016 Benchmark 53 Handicap 1000m: Stewards today concluded an inquiry into C. Baker (a) handling of Pomme Petite in the above mentioned event. When questioned regarding her handling of Pomme Petite, C. Baker (a) stated she was instructed to ride the mare in a forward position, but after beginning well failed to muster speed despite her urgings and settled midfield. C. Baker added rounding the home turn Pomme Petite worked into the race strongly and near the 150m ran up behind the leaders Aperture and Foreign Secretary. When questioned why she then failed to direct Pomme Petite out around Foreign Secretary approaching the 100m and obtain clear running, C. Baker stated she was hopeful of obtaining a run inside Aperture, but when that failed to eventuate she was of the opinion she wasn t clear of runners to her outside to shift out, and as a result remained racing behind Aperture, and went to the line without being fully tested. C. Baker agreed with stewards in hindsight she should have directed Pomme Petite out from behind Foreign Secretary approaching the 100m which
would have afforded the mare a clear run to the line. After conducting a full betting review of the event and taking into account the inexperience of C. Baker (7 previous race rides) stewards took no action other to refer this ride to the apprentice riders advisory panel. RACE 1: 2YO Open Handicap 1250m: Penny Dreadful- Slow to begin.
