The victory over the Yellow Jackets snapped a non-conference home winning streak for GT that stretched back to 2007. In game two with the Eagles clinging to a tight 3-2 lead, Siliga clubbed a three-run home run to put the margin at 6-2. GSU would go on to win the game, 6-5. Also nominated for this week s Player of the Week Award were Chattanooga s Michelle Fuzzard, Western Carolina s Lauren Ross, College of Charleston s Katie Forbes, Appalachian State s Michelle Lighton, UNC Greensboro s Kaitlin Merkt, Samford s Kristy Lawrence, Furman s Morgan Hughey and Elon s Jackie Gonzalez. Georgia Southern s Robyne Siliga PITCHER OF THE WEEK STEPHANIE ROYALL - SAMFORD Royall, who earned her second-consecutive SoCon Pitcher of the Week Award, pitched 15 innings against Furman while allowing only two earned runs in going 1-1 against the Paladins. The junior stuck out 10 batters, while walking just one. Royall picked up the win in game one of the series as the Bulldogs won, 3-2. In games two and three, despite the Bulldogs suffering defeats, Royall gave up no earned runs in 10.2 innings of work. Also nominated for this week s Pitcher of the Week Award were Furman s Stephanie Mihaly, UNC Greensboro s Hannah Angel, Georgia Southern s Megen Smith and Appalachian State s Ashley Stubbs. Samford s Stephanie Royall

AROUND THE BASES - After winning only 11 games last season, including just six SoCon contests, Appalachian State has already won 15 games, including eight SoCon games, this season in Coach Herrington s second season. - After the home team went a combined 9-3 last weekend in SoCon games, the road team turned it around this week going 8-4 in SoCon contests. - After being named SoCon Pitcher of the Week Samford s Stephanie Royall joins Appalachian State utility player Katie Boyd as the only two players in the SoCon this season to earn consecutive weekly award honors. - Furman senior shortstop Stephanie Cushing notched her 440th career assist in the Paladins Saturday doubleheader against Samford to tie former Paladin shortstop and current head coach Dana Jenkins for first on Furman s career assists ledger. - The SoCon currently boosts three.400 avg. batters in Samford s Jessica Owens (.435), Georgia Southern s Robyne Siliga (.435) and Appalachian State s Katie Boyd (.415). 2009 PRESEASON INFORMATION COACHES PRESEASON POLL Preseason Poll (1st Votes) Total Points 1.
