Badminton Continue Their Winning Ways The first half of the season has begun with badminton continuing to beat their opponents! The season started with newcomer Vernon Hills (18-0) and Maine West (14-4). GBS has a 2-0 start in conference. Friday, the badminton team celebrated St.

Patrick's Day by a strong showing at the Buffalo Grove's Lucky Clover Invite. All GBS players went home with a first or second medal! Final score: GBS 29, Buffalo Grove 21, Hoffman Estates 12 1/2, Glenbard East 10 1/2 and Elk Grove 7. Second week, GBS saw three away meets. After the bus figured out how to get to Willowbrook, GBS won 11-7, a nonconference meet. Followed by a strong showing against two powerhouse conference teams; Evanston (16-2) and Deerfield (16-2)! GBS now has a 4-0 record in conference. Saturday, March 24, many key players left for Spring Break including first single Sophia Lau and first doubles Christina Moy/Rhea Shah. But the remaining players had accepted the challenge and won the Hersey Lisa Gresens Invite. Final team scores: GBS 27, Conant and Lincoln Way West tied for second with 23 points, Bradley Bourbonais 20, Hersey 17 and Oswego 10. GBS has gone to this meet for years, always during Spring Break, but this is the first time winning! The above picture is the celebration at Hersey Invite with the winning cup!

Baseball Mother nature got the best of the Titans this week, canceling 3 of 5 games. Titans went 1-1 in games played. The Titans traveled to Louisville this past weekend. The team got a victory in @super_prep opener Friday, defeating Pike 3-1. Miskella battled through 5 shutout innings. Snow and Mathein led the offense with 2 hits and an RBI each.

Unfortunately, cold weather followed the Titans South and their games Saturday against @HSE_Baseball and @BaseballZville were cancelled. Earlier in the week, the Titans lost to Fremd 8-7, and their game against Loyola was cancelled. It will be made up April 25. Overall record stands at 4-5. League play in the CSL gets started this week and there are three home games. Plan to come out to Titan Field to take in some action. This week's schedule: Tues vs Deerfield 4:45 p.m. Wed vs @CarmelBaseball 4:45 p.m. Thurs vs Vernon Hills 4:45 p.m. Sat at @BGHSBaseball21 10:30 a.m.

Girls Lacrosse

Girls Lacrosse returned from their spring break trip to San Diego, where they went 1-3 for the trip, but learned a lot about what we need to work on and had good team bonding. Their win vs. Poway was the best the team has played all season. The other teams they played were top teams in the area, La Costa Canyon and Torrey Pines, along with Potomac from Virginia. Great experience for the Titans and a fun trip.

Boys Tennis During spring break, boys tennis got rained out of the Rolling Meadows Quad. To get some reps, the team ran an intrasquad tie break tournament with every player who practiced over spring break (34 players). The team handicap the less experienced players so that it makes it fair against the more experience players. A very good player would have a handicap of zero and the less experience player might be a 4. In this example the score would be 4-0 and the first player to seven and win by 2 would be the winner of the set. Each tiebreaker set would start with the same score 4-0. The winner of the tournament was a Marc Blekhman (freshman), 2nd place Ben Soyfer (freshman) semi-finalist Danial Deborin (freshman) and the other semi-finalist Joe Shin (Junior). Marc and Ben both had handicaps of zero.

Boys Lacrosse Boys Lacrosse remains at 0-1 after a string of weather cancellations this week. Circle your calendars for May 3 when the Titans host the cross-town rival Spartans. Junior Titan Lacrosse kicks off Monday with their first practice of the 2018 season. Current high school players are excited to be coaching future Titan counterparts immediately following their own practices at Willow Park this spring.

Players can register at www.glenviewparks.org, or contact Daniel Bregman at Daniel.bregman@glenviewparks.org for more information. Girls Soccer GBS Girls Soccer is off to a 6-0-2 undefeated start this spring.

The Titans defeated Evanston, 1-0, on the Friday before spring break as a 40-yard free kick bomb from junior defender Katie Sullivan in the 34th minute held up along with junior goalkeeper Libbie Vanderveen earning a one save shutout in net. The team remains in first place in the CSL South with a 2-0-0 division record. Since spring break, the girls rattled off three consecutive victories this past week. On Monday, GBS defeated Hoffman Estates, 4-1 as senior midfielder Lauren Meier scored a beautiful 25 yard shot in the 20th minute. Just before the first half ended, sophomore forward Ellie Flowers beat three defenders on her way to scoring a neatly tucked right footed shot for a 2-0 halftime lead. Junior forward Makayla Stadler tallied in the 50th minute from a Lauren Meier assist. Finally, senior forward Hailey Kraabel added a penalty kick goal in the 73rd for the win. The next day, the team traveled to CPS powerhouse, Lane Tech Indians, and squeaked out a 2-1 score in Chicago. Stadler's two goals in the 18th minute on a 30 yard cannon and then the eventual game winner in the 50th minute from a junior midfielder/defender assist from Katie Gates is all the squad needed. Saturday, the team began the inaugural Lou Malnati's Deep Dish Soccer Classic and beat the Lake Forest Scouts, 3-1 in first round action. Katie Sullivan bent in a corner kick in the 7th minute to give the early lead. 3 minutes later, Stadler stole the ball from a Lake Forest defender and buried a shot left inside netting in the 9th. For good measure, Stadler scored again, her 5th goal of the week (7th of the season), on a remarkable crossed ball from the left flank from sophomore forward Katie Weiss for the opening tournament win. On Monday, the Titans (6-0-2) take on Loyola Academy (5-0-0) in second round tournament action and a chance to upset the #5 Ramblers at home at 5:00 p.m., in John R. Davis Stadium. Come cheer on the Titans to victory!

Boys Volleyball Boys Volleyball has now played three matches through our early season and spring break. This past week, the Titans made a trip down to Lincoln-Way Central on Wednesday and then played in their 11th annual Battle for the Cure on Thursday.

Although GBS did not come out on top in the win column, the guys did have a very successful night. The combined boys volleyball programs from Glenbrook South and North brought in over $1,000 to contribute to the fight to cure pediatric cancer. The Titans would like to thank all who contributed to the cause. Coming up this week, the boys head down the road to Prospect to take on the Knights on Monday, and host Niles West to open conference play on Tuesday.

Girls Rowing Glenview Girls Rowing has been recognized as an official club at GBS as of this spring. For Fall of 18' the club will be rebranded as "GBS Girls Rowing". Twelve girls strong, the club has been practicing steadily since last September. They will compete in their first regatta April 28. An informational meeting for new and prospective students/families will be announced sometime in May. There are only a few "seats" left for the fall club. The girls will also be attending a training camp this summer - ranging from no experience to seasoned. If you have any level of interest, we encourage you to RSVP to this discovery session. If you would like additional information about the fall program or to be included in upcoming communications, please contact Laura Jenny at glenviewgirlscrew@yahoo.com or 847-910-9662 Titan Speakeasy Sponsors Special thanks to our 2018 Booster Club benefit sponsors: Willow Lake Orthodontics, Loeber Motors, Glenview Firefighters Local 4186, Buffalo Wild Wings Northbrook, Energytees and Eric, N.
