VENUE Ponds Forge International Sports Centre Sheaf Street Sheffield S1 2BP Directions: If you are travelling by car, the nearest motorway exit to Sheffield City Centre is junction 33 of the M1. This will bring you onto the Sheffield Parkway (A57) and as you continue to head for the city centre, Ponds Forge is sign-posted. There is limited on-site parking at Ponds Forge, with dedicated disabled spaces on the top level. Ponds Forge operates a Pay and Display car park (operated by CPP). Tickets can be purchased from the machines located at the entrance to the lift lobbies. Please display your ticket in clear view on your dashboard. Welcome to the FEKO 2017 All Ages Open National Karate Championships Sunday 12th February 2017 All entries and fees must reach the course organiser by Sunday 5th February 2017 NO ENTRIES OR FEES WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THIS DATE Payment by cheque to FEKO. Payment made be made by bank transfer - please contact the organiser. In the event of insufficient numbers in a category then the event organisers reserve the right to merge categories. The mergers, if any, will be done on Sunday 5 February 2017 and Coaches informed accordingly Registration for kata and kumite events will begin at 8.30 am. Brief Synopsis of the Competition Rules Competitors must not be entered into a higher age, grade or weight category. WUKF Rules apply with accepted modifications by the Chief Referee. Coaches must wear FEKO or association official badge and track suits (preferably association) when entering the tatami area. The association coach will only be allowed in the tatami area when their competitor is fighting or performing kata. Competitors who fail to report to an area at the start of their event will be disqualified. Any competitor, coach or representative who behaves discourteously to any member of the refereeing panel may cause the immediate disqualification of their competitor and could ultimately lead to disqualification of their whole team. The named coach is responsible for the behaviour of all his/her competitors and any spectator accompanying their competitors. S/he is responsible for obtaining parental or guardian permission for entry into the event and checking that their competitors have appropriate insurance, through their respective associations. The association coach is the only association representative who will be permitted to raise an objection or discuss possible infringements with the officials. Coaches must be absolutely certain that their competitors are entered into the correct category. It may not be possible to change entries on the day.
KATA Kata will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Competitors up to and including 4th Kyu may repeat the same Kata in each round. Competitors 3rd Kyu and above must perform a different kata each round. Recognised style kata must be performed. Competitors must wear their grade belt when performing kata. All competitors, including teams/pairs, will perform a minimum of two kata. Teams/pairs must perform a different kata in each round. For pair s kata, associations/clubs may mix grades within age groups BUT they must be entered in the higher grade event. Competitors in kobudo kata must perform a different kata using a different weapon each round. The kata must be specified on the entry form. KUMITE General rules Head guards, helmets and body armour for children under 15 years are optional. Gum shields (white or clear) and approved mitts (red/white) are compulsory plus 2 belts (red/white). Chest protectors for female kumite and groin protectors for male events are compulsory. Soft shin pads are allowed. (Combined shin and instep forbidden). Shin pads are not allowed for Ippon Kumite. Glasses are forbidden. Soft contact lenses worn at competitors own risk. Bandages, padding or supports because of injury must be approved by the Chief Referee on the advice of the Official Medical Representative. All jewellery must be removed or covered. Fingernails and toenails must be short. The wearing of metallic teeth braces must be approved by the Chief Referee and Official Medical Representative. If accepted, then the parent/guardian/coach must accept full responsibility should the user be injured. All participants must have parental consent to enter this competition. Only FEKO officials and only ONE official association team coach per association will be allowed into the event and competition area - this will be strictly enforced. All events will be taken through to the finals and the respective awards will take place on the same area. All kumite events will be for 1st, 2nd and joint 3rd place. There will not be a fight off for the 3rd and 4th places in Kumite. Please note that in team kumite events particularly there may be a substantial difference in height and weight between competitors. The Chief Referee's decision is final.
