July/August 2014 From the Desk of Vicki Schreiner-Kaiser, TOPS Area Captain Dear TOPS and KOPS members, Well as you can see I finally became a Grandma. My Son, Kevin and Megan went into the hospital on May 19th which was four weeks early and we welcomed little Preston Eugene Schreiner into the world at 11:20PM. He was 6lbs 5ozs and 20.5 long. He is such a handsome grandson. It sure is an awesome feeling to see a new baby come into our lives to become a grandparent. Summer has finally made our way into Minnesota after all the flooding that is going on in the area. So lets keep walking and getting all the exercise you can for the upcoming fall rallies that are being planned with fun and inspiration. I will be participating in two fall rallies to get my area to attend one or the other this year. Information for both is on the next pages along with contest rules. Please be sure to read all information to your chapters. Thanks to all the chapters that have let me come visit and share the walking program with you this year. I hope that it got us all motivated to keep moving for our health. Remember Exercisers outlives the Non exercisers. Speaking of Walking Steve Kaiser, Leslie Knudson and I hosted a Picnic for our areas at Basset Creek in Crystal, MN. Lots of fun was had considering the weather. We had handouts to share and awards were given to the participants of the walking contest. The weather was rainy and damp but after we handed out awards and the rain quit we went on the walk around the beautiful park which was about a mile around. We saw a deer running through too. I would like to thank Chapter 1798 Chaska for coming out on the walk with us. They were in the walking contest with Chapter 830 Willmar and it was close: Chaska: 1181.04 miles and Willmar: 1164.84 congratulations to both Teams. Here are the results from other chapters I paired up and CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL!! Keep walking! 775 Alexandria 998 miles/950 Litchfield 2147.50 miles(26 Participated) 471 St Cloud 124.5 miles/773 Hutchinson 456 miles 1750 Cold Spring 1172 miles/1747 Arlington 389 Miles 164 Maynard 173 miles/1796 Watertown 464 miles 1794 Ortonville 718 miles/1751 Kimball 691 miles 691 Hutchinson 811.5 miles/ 1683 Wood Lake 577.26 miles /975 Montevideo 380.5 TOTAL MILES: 10447.14

Butterflies: TOPS to KOPS will be the theme for our fall rally. We will be looking for Butterflies that are on their way to a NEW YOU as they are losing the unwanted weight. Butterflies are one of God s most beautiful creations and oh so many colors. Fall Rally will be held September 20, 2014 so please mark your calendars. This is for all members in TOPS. A success story can come from division winners and royalty from this past year. We will have a fabulous rededication ceremony for all Members in TOPS. If there is a song leader out there and would like to lead the singing at Fall Rally I would really appreciate that. It is mainly to get us going on the right note. Leaders, Secretary and Treasurers come with contests and ideas to share. Weight recorders bring one craziest excuse that you have heard. We will be doing a caring and sharing to talk about ideas that work in your chapters to make them fun and interesting. There will be places to set up for craft/raffle tables along with the TOPS shop. MEMBERSHIP AND CHAPTERS International Pound Bankbook Please go to page 32 in your TOPS NEWS June/July issue and order your pound Bankbooks for your members and put in your new member folders. We don t know how long they will have these available at Headquarters. ELECTIONS Elections are to be held in July the second week. I know that many of you are struggling with officers that want to rotate out. I am one of them and we need to work together somehow to keep our chapters striving. I look at this way if we didn t have TOPS where would our weight be, we need each other to keep it going in the right direction and to keep healthy. So here is some guidelines for each officer duties: Leader: Presides at meetings, appoints weight recorders, Receives the mailings from Headquarters, Coordinators and Area Captains. Distributes the reading for others to read. We don t have to do it all. Co-Leader: Assist the leader, assumes duties in the absence of officers. Treasurer: Keep records of chapter dues and renewals. Forward membership renewals and any requests made by Coordinators. Balance the account. Weight Recorders and Assistant weight recorder: Follow rules of weight recording. Maintain the official and the duplicate weight charts. Other positions are voluntary to help the chapter carry on. New member coaches to help new members feel welcomed and comfortable so they keep coming back. Sunshine person to keep a roster of birthdays, TOPS anniversaries, and help with renewal. Photographer for before and after pictures of winners. Program leader the leader does not have to do them all the time. All members can help with all these positions. Secretary: Keep the highlights of the meeting as well as the contest rules. Read correspondence as requested by leader.

Leaders Corner July is here, Gone is the first half of the year. Are you happy with a loss, Or does a gain have you cross? Don t give up there is still time, Make a plan and walk the line.
