RULES: The IJF Kata Competition Rules will be used to judge the Kata. White judogi only A couple (or individual) may participate only once in a Kata division either has Tori or Uke. A couple may participate in four (4) katas divisions only. No musical kata is allowed. Judogi must follow Judo Canada standards. Female participants shall wear under the jacket a white tee-shirt with short sleeves, neck-line, rather strong, long enough to be worn inside the trousers. Kata competition will not have gender specific divisions. All female, all male and mixed pairs are accepted. REGISTRATION: You must register before Friday, March 8 th, 2019 (a minimum of three (3) couples is required by kata division to hold the tournament in that division. Registration on-line only: http://judo-quebec.qc.ca/evenement/ COACH: No coach admitted SURFACE: There are two (2) competition surfaces of 8 meters x 8 meters with a safety area of 4 meters between them. A strip of white tape, approximately 50 cm long will be fixed 6 meters apart at the center of the competition area, to indicate the starting position of Tori and Uke. The center of the competition area shall be indicate also with the same tape. JUDGES: SYSTEM OF JUDGING: The tournament will be judged by IJF, PJC and National judges. Each Kata will be evaluated by five (5) judges under the supervision of the head judge. The five (5) judges will be positioned on the Shomen side and they will seat at about one (1) meter in distance apart. A judge cannot be a competitor.
The judges will always be in their position before the arrival of the arrival of the couple in the competition area. The couples enters and leaves the competition area at the opposite side of the judges. The judge in the center gets up and, with tense arms and palms of the hands turned upward, invites the couple to enter the competition area. INJURY, ILLNESS OR ACCIDENT: When Tori or Uke is unable to continue because of injury, illness or accident during the execution of Kata, the couple will be considered out of the competition. In case of minor injury like bloody wound, broken nail or a problem with contact lenses, according to the decision of the judges, the Kata execution will be stopped and the athlete will be assisted by the medical personnel outside the competition area. The competition will continue and the couple will repeat the Kata soon after the last couple has been called. In the case that a new minor injury happens to the same couple during the second execution of the Kata, the couple will be considered out of the competition. In the case that a minor injury happens after a forgotten technique, the couple will be considered out of competition. POINT SYSTEM: The judges are five (5) and will award points on similar IJF scoring sheets. For each technique the total score of three (3) judges will be totaled to produce the final score: the maximum score and the minimum score for each technique will cancelled. The total score of the whole Kata will be the sum of the score totaled by the five (5) judges.
