Chairman's Chat By Andy Moss Welcome to the April Backfire once again I am happy to say it is packed with news about forthcoming events, so make sure you take the time to have a glance through and find out what is planned over the next few months. The sprint season has already got underway with a busy weekend of two local events on consecutive days. Pegasus members were out at both the BMC Castle Combe and Craven Hullavington Sprints. As well as those competing we had people helping at both. A special mention for Ralph and Spence who marshaled both events. Keith Yeandel was on post at Combe and Cherry Robinson at Hullavington. At Hullavington myself and Nick Wood helped with running the startline and Bob Hart and Dick Craddy acted as Club Steward and MSA Steward respectively. Both events were very enjoyable. Well done to all those competing or helping. I am looking forward to the visit of Mike Costin for our 20th of April Club Night. We are very lucky to have the Cosworth founder come to us for a talk and if our recent guest speaker evenings are anything to go by we should have a good attendance. Members are encouraged to arrive from 7.30pm to enjoy a drink in the sports bar before the start of the talk at 8pm. In the short term, we have an excellent event to look forward to on Sunday the 26th of April when our Production Car Trial will be held at Dundry thanks once again to Duncan Pittaway for use of the venue. For just 10 you can have a great afternoons motorsport, and any road car is suitable. Everyone who has entered in the past couple of years has come back for more why not join them this year?

The Grand Prix season seems to start earlier every year and, by the time Backfire arrives with you, we will have already had two races. We have again had a good response to the club Fantasy F1 contest, which should add a bit of extra fun to proceedings. The full list of entries and first results are later in Backfire. As we go to press entries are coming in at a decent rate for our Sprint at Llandow on Saturday May 9th. This will be the only sprint event at the circuit in May. If you are not competing please consider coming to marshal we really do need your help as well as an excellent cooked meal at lunchtime, we will refund your Severn bridge toll on production of a receipt. Contact myself on 0117 9041841 or andy@mossdata.co.uk if you can help. Looking forward to later in May, we have our first treasure hunt of the year these are normally a lot of fun and Bob Bull is sure to put on an enjoyable event based on his past efforts. A new May event will be the Wessex Sprint which for the first time will be run at Hullavington Airfield. Entries are coming in at a steady rate and the event is sure to be one not to miss. If you are not competing the only way to get to see the action is to marshal and we can find a job for you on the day whatever your experience, contact Pete Goodman ( pete.1goodman@talktalk.net or 01179 605367 ). Event info can be found at http://www.wessexsprint.org.uk As if all of that was not enough on the last day of the May we have the ACE tour. This charity tour is always a lot of fun. The event is aimed at Classic and Sportscars, but there is no minimum age for cars and you will be made very welcome whatever you drive. Last year the day raised money for Prostate Cancer Charities, with 1700 being shared between two charities the letters published later in Backfire show these charities really appreciate the help received. Having focused on a male orientated charity last year this year the funds raised will be going to breast cancer charity BUST, the Breast cancer Unit Support Trust. Finally a reminder that our Castle Combe Track Day is on August the 22 nd this year and entry information is now available from the club website, which has all the information you need in a special Castle Combe day section. http://castlecombetrackday.bristolpegasus.com

Editorial At last spring appears to have sprung and for the foreseeable future there seems to be some motorsport related activities pretty much every weekend. March saw my car, with a 112,000 miles on the clock, pass it s MOT... with a long list of advisories so apart from road based events I shall have to miss a few production car trials and autotests while I save up to get the parts to bring my suspension, brakes and exhaust back up to scratch. Meantime I have become involved with the preservation of a one off 1972 Formula One car built in Chadwell Heath, alongside marshalling duties which this month have taken me to the new solar powered Castle Combe for The Great Western Sprint and to the venue for the forth coming Wessex Sprint, Hullavington. Looking ahead to April 20th we will be welcoming the Cos in Cosworth in the form of Mike Costin who like the worth in Cosworth, Keith Duckworth was an early Lotus employee and has many interesting tales to tell from the heart of the great British motor racing industry which dominated the top table of the sport for the best part of two decades. On April 26th I look forward to our annual visit to Duncan Pittaway s farm in Dundry where I shall be marshalling on our Cross Trophy production car trial, for me this really has been affordable competitive motoring at it s best; worth a go if you have not been before. Then in early May on the 9th I ll be off for more marshalling at Llandow Sprint. Earlier in April I hope to get my annual fix of World Endurance Championship Racing at the Six Hours of Silverstone. If you are competing, marshalling or simply spectating at any forthcoming events and would like to share your experiences or photographs in Backfire, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Wishing you all a safe month s motoring. Ralph Colmar Deadline for Next Backfire: 21st April 2015 We are always looking for members contributions on competitions, club matters and or journeys to Backfire Editor: Ralph Colmar Email: backfire@bristolpegasus.com The views and opinions printed in this newsletter are those of the contributors and not necessarily those of BPMC

Production Car Trial Sunday 26th April Pegasus Cross Trophy Production Car Trial Dundry Our Production Car Trial is to be held at Lower Grove Farm in Dundry Ref. 5545 6735 on Sunday April 27th. The venue is superb for an event of this type and should offer a challenge for most. Signing on from 12.00 & first car to start at 13.00 So what is a Production Car Trial? Well, simply it's a Trial that you can do in an ordinary road car. Entrants will need a vehicle, a driver and a navigator/bouncer whose job it will be to jump about in the passenger seat to maintain traction when the going gets a bit slippy. If you don't have a passenger, don't worry you can always grab a fellow competitor to sit in. Anyone who has seen a more specialist Trial and gazed on in awe whilst thinking: "how on earth do they get up/across/through something like that?!" may now be thinking "there's no way my car would be suitable". Worried about ground clearance, losing the sump or suspension damage? To put those minds at rest, rather than the often heavily rutted tracks used in Classic Trials, the venue is a grassy field. If you fancy having a go but are lacking a suitable vehicle, get in touch and we'll try to pair up any would be bouncers with drivers as far as possible. If you'd like to be involved but can't find a driver (or still have concerns about damaging your pride and joy), you could always come along and marshal! We could also do with someone to help with checking over the cars before the start and also need a club steward. Marshals always welcome (in fact essential) For further details and an entry form visit the club website or contact Event Secretary Tim Murray 0117 9499449, secretary@bristolpegasus.com A brilliant fun afternoon with your ordinary road car Any car is suitable A.C.E (All Classic Enthusiasts) & Pegasus Motor Club
