WELCOME/CHANCELLOR CHANCELLOR S WELCOME With talented faculty, a beautiful campus, and dozens of degree options, LSU Shreveport is an outstanding choice for furthering your education. We are proud to have earned the reputation of being challenging, innovative, diverse, and successful. Whether pursuing a degree or just upgrading your skills, you are sure to benefit from LSU Shreveport s tradition of excellence. LSU Shreveport is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools a distinction which means we are zealous in maintaining our high level of academic excellence. We are further strengthened by being one of ten institutions networked across the state within the LSU System. LSUS enrolls over 4,000 students in the two academic colleges: the College of Business, Education and Human Development and the College of Arts and Sciences. There are over 25 undergraduate degrees and a dozen graduate programs to choose from. Although there are a few large lecture classes, most classes average only 21 students. Many of our students pursue their degrees while working full-time or parttime; therefore, we offer a wide range of morning, evening and weekend on-campus classes, many online classes, and classes at several off-campus locations. LSU Shreveport also offers an impressive array of lifelong learning and professional development courses for our citizens and business and industry through our Division of Continuing Education and Public Service. Each of our programs and offerings contributes to LSU Shreveport s mission as the regional university serving the Shreveport-Bossier metropolitan area and the Ark-La-Tex, committed to creating an environment in which people can learn, discover, and enrich their lives. Dr. Paul Sisson Dr. Paul Sisson is enjoying his 21st year at LSU Shreveport, having joined the faculty as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics in 1993. Since then he has moved up through the faculty ranks to Full Professor of Mathematics and has served as a Department Chair (of both Math and Computer Science), a College Dean, Dean of Graduate Studies, and Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. This year, following the retirement of Dr. Vince Marsala in summer 2012, Dr. Sisson is serving as the Interim Chancellor of LSUS. Dr. Sisson earned a double Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Physics from New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology in 1987 and his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of South Carolina in 1993. The teaching of mathematics is still one of his driving passions and he continues to teach a math class each fall and spring semester. He is the author of three textbooks to date, and the co-author of a fourth book soon to be published. He also holds the Samuel & Mary Abramson Endowed Professorship in the College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Sisson s wife, Dr. Cynthia Sisson, has also served at LSU Shreveport for many years, holding the position of Chair of Chemistry and Physics since 2003. They are No. 1 fans of all the LSU Shreveport athletic teams and are enormously proud of all the teams accomplishments. We have a tradition of outstanding athletics at LSUS, and this year promises to be no exception, said Dr. Sisson. Our basketball players are a phenomenal representation of our university. These student athletes have talent both on the court and in the classroom, and we look forward to watching them play this year.

CHAD McDOWELL Chad McDowell enters his second year as Athletics Director in 2013-14. McDowell has become a fixture in LSUS Pilots athletics having played basketball here from 1991-95 and returning to his alma mater as Head Men s Basketball Coach. As a player, this former point guard earned a reputation as a hard-nosed competitor who would do whatever was needed to win. After a highly successful high school coaching career at Shreveport s C. E. Byrd and Southwood High Schools, McDowell was called upon to re-start LSUS men s program following its reinstatement in 2003. And did he ever re-start it! Building from scratch with no players, no uniforms, no equipment and not much in the way of tradition, McDowell took his team to a 21-win season in his first year and never looked back, amassing an overall wonloss record of 239-66 and an amazing home record of 136-15. During his nine years at the helm of the Pilots, McDowell s teams won 20 or more games every year, including two 30 or more win seasons. He received numerous accolades including several conference Coach of the Year Awards, several Louisiana Small College Coach of the Year Awards and the prestigious NAIA National Coach of Character award. His teams won four regular season conference championships, seven conference tournament championships, and made eight consecutive appearances in the NAIA National Tournament from 2005-2012, making it to the Elite Eight in 2012. Numerous players under his leadership were named to all-conference and NAIA All-American teams. The team was also recognized with the NAIA s National Champions of Character award. The NAIA awards to the coach and to the team are even more impressive when considering that these are awards given once per year to one team among all of the NAIA s sponsored sports. Now Chad brings his experience and enthusiasm to the Athletics Directorship. Rest assured that the same tireless effort and attention to detail which marked Chad s coaching career will extend into his new position, making the future of LSUS Athletics appear to be bright indeed. Chad and his wife, Jennifer, are the parents of son Martin and daughters Molly and Megan.

COACH BLANKENSHIP Kyle Blankenship was named the second Head Coach on June 29, 2012, to lead the men s basketball program since its reinstatement in 2003. In just his first year (2012-2013) at the helm of the Pilots program, he took the squad to uncharted postseason waters by reaching the NAIA Fab Four for the first time in school history. The Pilots finished Blankenship s inaugural season ranked no. 4 in the NAIA Division I Men s Basketball Final Coaches Top 25 poll after their remarkable run in Kansas City. LSUS dished out three consecutive upsets in the national tournament, eliminating eighth-seeded Pikeville (91-87), ninth-seeded Evangel (Mo.) (77-70), and the no. 1 overall seed and then unbeaten Columbia (Mo.) (79-78) in the Pilots ninth consecutive trip to the NAIA post season party. Even after the final buzzer sounded on the 2012-13 season, LSU Shreveport s name was still mentioned on the final day of the Buffalo Funds-NAIA National Tournament. Recognized for their outstanding display of character and sportsmanship throughout the entire National Tournament, the Pilots claimed the Dr. James Naismith-Emil S. Liston Team Sportsmanship Award. In addition, Coach Blankenship was recognized with the Charles A. Krigel Award which is the coach of the squad that earns the Naismith-Liston Sportsmanship Award for his leadership to his team. Following his first season as a head coach, Blankenship was named the 2013 Louisiana Small College Coach of the Year by his peers and the members of the Louisiana Association of Basketball Coaches. He was also a finalist for the Don Meyer National Coach of the Year Award. Blankenship came to LSUS after serving as the top assistant for two seasons at Rogers State University, where he helped lead the Hillcats to back-to-back appearances in the Elite Eight of the NAIA National Tournament. Rogers State reached the 20-win plateau both years, while finishing each season ranked in the Top 25. Prior to Rogers State, Blankenship coached one season at Lamar State College Port Arthur. In his lone year as an assistant, he helped guide the Seahawks to a record-breaking season, including a schoolrecord 20 wins and a second place finish in the South Division of the Texas Eastern Conference (Region XIV). The Shreveport native is no stranger to LSU Shreveport basketball. He began his coaching career at LSUS, while also playing one season as he finished his playing career in 2006 for the Pilots. As a player and coach Blankenship helped the Pilots to a 106-27 overall record, two regular season Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) titles, four consecutive GCAC Tournament championships (2006-2009) and four straight NAIA National Tournament appearances (2006-2009). Blankenship guided the Pilots offense to a record-breaking season and a No. 1 national ranking in his final season as a player in 2005-06. He finished his career at LSUS as the school s single-season assists leader (199) and single-game assists record holder (14), while leading the nation in assists-to-turnover ratio. He began his playing career at The University of Tulsa in 2001 where he was a team captain, three-year letter winner and a member of two Western Athletic Conference championship teams that made two consecutive appearances in the second round of the NCAA Tournament (2002 and 2003). Blankenship was a standout high school player at C.E. Byrd High School from 1997-2001, playing all four seasons for former LSUS Head Coach Chad McDowell. Blankenship was a two-time All-City selection as a junior and a senior, while earning All-State honors as a senior. Blankenship earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from The University of Tulsa in 2006.

COACH GREENE Derrick Greene begins his 11th season as an assistant coach at LSU Shreveport. Greene is a native of Wilmington, North Carolina. With a parent in the military, Greene moved to the Philippines where he played high school basketball for Wagner High School, which played in the Far East Championships. During his senior year he moved to Bossier City, Louisiana, and graduated from Parkway High School. Greene was a charter member of the first LSUS men s basketball team, which began in 1990. He was a four-year letterman for the Pilots. Greene and former LSUS Head Coach Chad McDowell were teammates for three of his four seasons at LSUS which began a lifetime friendship between the two. After serving as a graduate assistant for two years, he stayed on board with the Pilots coaching staff as an assistant in 1997. Due to budget issues, the men s basketball program was forced to fold. The resurrection of the program in 2003 was led by Coach Chad McDowell, When I was offered the position of Head Coach for the men s basketball program in 2003, there wasn t any doubt of who I would call first to try and get on the staff. I wanted Derrick Greene by my side. He is family and he is LSUS through and through, McDowell said. Greene graduated from LSUS with a B.A. in Sociology in 1995 and became the graduate assistant for the Pilots basketball team in 1996. In 1997 he became an assistant coach at LSUS, but after one year the program was shut down. Greene then became a local AAU basketball coach and also worked as an assistant for the boy s basketball team at Booker T. Washington High School in Shreveport from 2001-2003. Greene received his Master s of Liberal Arts from LSUS in 2002 and is married to Tonya. The two currently reside in Bossier City. COACH GASKIN Keenan Gaskin enters his second season with the Pilots, and will serve as a student assistant for Coach Blankenship. Gaskin will be responsible for coaching the team s post players, while assisting with opponent scouting, game management and other essential day-to-day operations of the men s basketball program. Gaskin came to LSUS following the completion of his playing career in 2012 at York College in Nebraska.
