The feeds are made quickly and accurately and the Feed-room is always clean and tidy Breeding/Stallion Section Tana Shaw Has ensured that the mares and foals are being well cared for and has worked closely with George to ensure their feet are in good condition. Maintenance Section Linzi Flavell For working so diligently when unloading the lucerne off the truck Office Section Nicole Brown Has represented Westbury professionally at race meetings and trials and at the same time has been able to keep on top of her workload in the office. Congratulations to Kristi Klausen - our February Employee of the Month Front Cover: Connections of Passing Shot after the son of Swiss Ace won the Group 3 Mr Tiz Trophy

Swiss Ace and Red Giant 1-2 Punch in Group 3 Mr Tiz Trophy In a spectacular raceday result, young Westbury sires Swiss Ace and Red Giant came up with a 1-2 punch in the Group 3 BMW Mr Tiz Trophy at Ellerslie on Derby Day, with talented colt Passing Shot gaining his first blacktype victory, and the very smart filly Red Striker storming home late to complete the quinella for the homebreds. Knocked down to Albert Bosma s Go Racing for $50,000 at the 2013 Select Sale, Passing Shot is no stranger to black-type racing, having finished second in the Group 3 Bonecrusher Stakes to Volkstok n barrell and recording fourth placings in the Group 1 Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes, Group 2 Wakefield Challenge Stakes and Listed Trevor Eagle Memorial. Returning to sprint distances, Passing Shot has found a purple patch of form with his last two starts resulting in impressive victories. Passing Shot has been dominant in recent starts, winning the Magners Irish Cider 1300m at Tauranga by four and a half lengths, then backing up three weeks later and delivering a three-length victory in brilliant fashion in the Gazley Cup 1200m at Trentham on Wellington Cup day. Passing Shot is the second Group winner for his young sire Swiss Ace, who currently sits third on the 2nd Season Sires Table by earnings, but has the leading strike rate of 44% with 11 winners from just 25 runners (for sires with more than 10 runners). Along with Passing Shot, Swiss Ace has had the Group 3 winning filly Mywayorthehighway in Australia and the high class gelding Huka Eagle who won 3 of his first 4 starts and recorded a Group 1 placing in the Levin Classic at Trentham in January. Racing in the colours of Westbury Stud principal Gerry Harvey, Red Giant filly Red Striker has been a model of consistency for Matamata trainer Jim Collett, her ten career starts bringing two wins and seven placings with form around some of the best three-year-olds this season. Red Striker's performance on Saturday in her first blacktype start was nothing short of impressive, going back from an outside barrier draw, and coming wide around the home turn to make her run, rushing home late for a well-deserved second, and the filly looks to have a very bright future ahead of her. Red Striker was also offered at the 2013 NZB Yearling Sale where she failed to make her reserve of $10,000, but has more than proven her price tag wrong with her raceday form, with her previous win against the older horses resulting in a 5.5 length victory in a very smart 1:09.04 for the 1200m.

Marky Mark on Target For Group 1 Diamond Stakes The unbeaten son of Makfi, Group 3 Eclipse Stakes winning Marky Mark, has pleased trainer Moira Murdoch with a piece of work at Ellerslie earlier last week. Murdoch, who will take the gelding to Ellerslie for the Group 1 Diamond Stakes tomorrow, said: It was just what he needed a trip away and a nice hit out...we gave him two weeks off after the Eclipse Stakes and he s worked back up nicely...he s done really well. He s done plenty of work and we took him along to Ellerslie to gallop last Tuesday which has really brought him along...we wanted him fresh into the 1200m of this Saturday s race and that should have him spot on for 1400m in the Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes. Leith Innes retains the ride and will press forward to take up a handy position from barrier two with Murdoch noting He was very professional in the Eclipse, whereas some of the others did a few things wrong. He hasn t raced since then, while the others have had a bit more experience since and that has probably leveled the playing field...i respect every one of the two-yearolds in the race but our horse is as good as I can get him. The son of Makfi has gone two for two in his career, with his debut win in the Mayfair Village Stakes 1100m at Ellerslie in mid-december, backing up just two weeks later to take out the Group 3 Eclipse Stakes 1200m also at Ellerslie. The Brendan and Jo Lindsay bred and owned gelding is the first foal from the Testa Rossa mare My My Maree, herself a Group 2 performer, and he was named after their nephew Mark.

Fast Dragon and Rising Romance to Battle in Group 1 NZ Stakes While the high class race mare Rising Romance will undoubtedly be the sentimental favourite to take out the Group 1 Ronald McDonald House Charities New Zealand Stakes 2000m at Ellerslie tomorrow after the passing of her part trainer Dean Logan this week, the Fastnet Rock entire Fast Dragon will be looking to improve on his very good Group 1 placing in the Herbie Dyke Stakes a month ago, and will ensure a genuine tempo in the race. The Donna Logan trained Rising Romance (Ekraar x Post Romance by Postponed) will be in the hands of inform jockey Opie Bosson for the first time, with Bosson climbing aboard fresh off his Group 1 New Zealand Derby victory on Mongolina Khan, and Group 3 Darley Plate win upon Rising Romance s stablemate Durham Town. This will be the star mare s last New Zealand start before she begins another Australian campaign, with Logan noting Opie is riding incredibly well and we re happy to have him on..it s her last run here before she heads to Sydney again for the carnival. Rising Romance resume reads like a dream, with five wins and more than $1.5 million in stake earnings, including winning the Group 1 Australian Oaks, Group 2 Royal Stakes and Listed Trevor Eagle Memorial Stakes. The mare has also recorded second placings in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup, Group 1 New Zealand Derby, Group 3 Craven Plate and third in the Group 2 Eight Carat Classic. Rising Romance s fresh-up last start in the Ophthalmic Instrument Company 1500m three weeks ago was meant to be a tune-up for Group One assignments further down the road, but she surged from last to first in the straight in a supreme performance that showed her star quality. It was a hard effort for the mare first up, winning fresh-up over 1500 metres and doing it like that But she s come through the race unscathed and bounced back from it very well We re very happy with how she s been doing in the last couple of weeks. She s getting fitter and stronger and doing everything very well, Logan said. Westbury Stud graduate Fast Dragon has had a strong preparation this campaign, and hasn t been out of the money in his three starts this season, including a determined run for third in the Group 1 Herbie Dyke Stakes in his last start. The son of Fastnet Rock led and fought strongly when challenged by Soriano and Nashville, and was beaten by less than half a length. Pictured: Fast Dragon The Bruce Wallace trained full-brother to Group One winner Albany Reunion was a Listed winner at two, a multiple stakes placegetter at three, and looks to be hitting his stride as a four-year-old with much more yet to come.

Telepathic and Role Model in ATC Group 3 Aspiration Handicap Westbury Stud graduates Telepathic and Role Model take on their own sex tomorrow in the Group 3 Aspiration Quality 1600m for the filles and mares on Randwick Guineas Day for leading trainers Chris Waller and Gai Waterhouse respectively. The Gerry Harvey bred and owned four-year-old mare Telepathic has drawn nicely in barrier two, and is the current favourite to win her second Randwick race in as many starts, following her win last month in the Crown Castle 1400m in the hands of Jason Collet, who is booked to ride the mare tomorrow. The Aspiration Quality will be Telepathic s third start at the mile with one win in the Avondale Governor General s Cup, and fifth in the Group 2 Eight Carat Classic. The daughter of Mossman (ex Telepathy) made her Australian debut last season under the guidance of Donna & Dean Logan in the winter at Doomben, running a bold second in the Group 3 Rough Habit Plate 2000m. Telepathic spelled in Australia post her winter sojourn before having two starts in the spring, where she finished third and fifth; and later joined the stable of Kiwi Chris Waller who produced the talented mare for the first time at Randwick recently where she scored an impressive victory over 1400m. Another well in the market for Saturday s Aspiration Quality is the Gai Waterhouse trained Role Model, who has drawn gate six, and will be ridden by top hoop Tim Clark. Role Model comes into the race off the back of her first Australian win last month, also at this track and distance, and will be out to repeat in better company come Saturday. The four-year-old mare won as the odds-on favourite in the Lionel Walsh Handicap 1600m, making her own luck from outside the leader, and wearing down Harry Hotspur to win by a length and a quarter. Stable spokesman Mark Newnham remarked after the win The Aspiration Quality over a mile at Randwick looks a suitable race for her next run..she was Group-placed at her first run for us so she was perfectly placed under these conditions today. By Bel Danoro from Super Nanny, Role Model was placed in the Group 2 Matamata Breeders Stakes as a two-year-old when trained by John Sargent and finished second in the Group 2 Wellington Guineas as a three-year-old from the stable of Dawn & Peter Williams. Bred at Westbury Stud by Gerry Harvey, Role Model s dam Super Nanny is infoal to exciting young sire Reliable Man. Pictured: Telepathic

Terravista and Lankan Rupee to Clash Again in Group 1 Newmarket The tremendously talented son of Captain Rio, superstar sprinter Terravista, will once again clash against Lankan Rupee in the upcoming Group 1 Newmarket Handicap 1200m at Flemington on 14 March. One of the world s three highest rated sprinters alongside Lankan Rupee (Redoute s Choice), and Chautauqua (Encosta De Lago), Terravista features among 22 left in contention for the prestigious race. The very lightly raced Terravista has had a meteoric rise to fame with three Group wins from only four starts last season, including his explosive win in the Group 1 Darley Classic 1200m in November. The wins helped Terravista add to his impressive race record of nine wins and one second from only 13 career starts. Terravista s only time out of the winner s circle in his spring campaign was a nail-biting fifth in a blanket finish behind Lankan Rupee in in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes. Following his Darley Classic victory Terravista joined Lankan Rupee as the joint-highest ranked sprinter in the world last year with a Timeform rating of 123 and the pair have met twice for one win apiece. Terravista and Chautauqua beat Lankan Rupee in the Darley Classic in the spring but Lankan Rupee s jockey Craig Newitt is looking forward to a rematch in the Newmarket next month after his mounts win in the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes. Bring it on, he said. However, Terravista s trainer Joe Pride quickly pointed out the latest win by Lankan Rupee only improved Terravista s form.
