The Duck Call Alpha Omicron Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha October 2014 Fall Bid Day 2014! Fall bid day began Saturday, September 20 with an exciting start! Five new Pike pledges were happily greeted after the run down McKenzie Street on a glorious and sunny morning. The active chapter was thrilled to welcome Austin McCrory, Michael Kittner, Brandon Hawk, Tyler Bludau, and Kyle Anderson (Pictured left to right).
These five men were very carefully selected by the actives after getting to know each one of them over the past school year. Each one of them is a great individual, proving that our rush abilities last semester were (and are) tremendous. The active chapter would also like to extend a huge thanks to Brothers Mark Danheim, Steve Raben, Paul Franz, Ricky Post, Jonathan Klownower, and Jason Stading for attending our rush dinner and speaking to the rushees. It was really important for many of the rushees for the alumni to be as visible and involved as our alumni are. The actives also really appreciate how much the alumni are involved in the rush process. Pike Scholars SLAG continues to be exemplified by our actives this semester with scholarships being awarded to several pikes. The Pike Centennial Scholarship was awarded to Sebastian Gualy (AO 14) Aaron Garcia (AO 14), Michael Gallegos (AO 14), Josh
Mann (AO 13), Andrew Klonower (AO 12) and Cameron Phelps (AO 12). Brother Dakota McDurham (AO 14) is spending the semester abroad in London, where he is continuing his education as an environmental science major. Brother Marco Alcocer (AO 13) has also been accepted into National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society, Sigma Delta Pi. Pike Varsity Athletics The Pike athletes look to continue to excel in competition this year. Brothers Paden Williams (AO 12) and Mathew Chaltain (AO 12.5) entered their final season for the Pirates Men s Soccer team. The season so far has brought a record of 4-5.
The Southwestern University Men s Basketball team season begins in the upcoming weeks! Pikes that are on the team include Carson Severson (AO 12), Ryan Fees (AO 13), Aaron Carvajal (AO 13), Chris Molina (AO 14), Roosevelt Odidi (AO 14), and Nnamdi Akabogu (AO 14). We wish them luck and hope to see them excel on the court! The Southwestern University Men s Swimming Team s season is also beginning in the upcoming month. Let us wish brothers Elliot Foreman (AO 13), Simmon Belaineh (AO 14), and Evan Jones (AO 14) good luck in their upcoming season. The Southwestern Men s Golf Team has been doing very well this year, with Brothers Jordan Cowart (AO 12), Cody Hebert (AO 13), Omeed Azmoudeh (AO 13), Andrew Dehennis (AO 14), and Connor Murphy (AO 14) all standing out from the competition. The team has four top three wins, including an outright win, and have not finished lower than seventh in any tournament this year.
Firefighter s Challenge This October 19, the chapter partnered with the Georgetown Fire Department for the first annual Firefighter s Challenge! This philanthropy event benefits the Georgetown Disaster Relief Fund!! This event featured activities such as an obstacle course, a pizza eating challenge, and a bouncy castle for children. We have received much support for this event from the school and many Georgetown businesses. This year s event s had two Pike teams in the top three, with Brothers Omeed Azmoudeh (AO 13), Connor Koper (AO 13.5), Evan Jones (AO 14), and Marcus Villa (AO 14) finishing first overall. Brother Koper had the best time of the day at one minute and seven seconds! The event brought in over 700 dollars on the event day alone. Overall, it was a success, and has provided a foundation for future year s Firefighter s Challenges.
