EVENT TIMETABLE REGISTRATION times Registration will be in the Cadair Idris building next to the main visitor centre at Coed y Brenin, Dolgellau, Gwynedd, LL40 2HZ SUNDAY 4th NOVEMBER 08:00-09:30 - Registration for both distances. SAFETY BRIEF All competitors must attend the safety briefing on race day. This will be on the Start Line. 09.50 - FULL distance 10.35 - SPRINT Distance Race TIMES 08:00 - Transition Opens 09:45 - Transition Closes 10:00 - Full Race Start 10:45 - Sprint Race Start Cut off TIMES t1 cut off 11:30 - Athletes entering T1 after this time will not be able to continue onto the Bike t1 cut off 14:30 - Athletes entering T2 after this time will not be able to continue onto the final run. Please respect these cut off times in the interests of your safety and the safety of our volunteers.
registration INFORMATION Registration is open from 0800-0930 on raceday. Please allow time to register and rack your bike before transition closes at 09.45. Competitors MUST attend registration to collect your registration pack, which includes the following items: Timing chip Secured to your LEFT ankle with the velcro strap provided and to be returned to the organisers at the finish line (For Team competitors this Tag acts as the Baton : it must therefore be passed to the next team member in transition to continue on the course. Please, make sure you return your timing chip otherwise there is a 10 charge for lost chips. Race number bib Worn on the back for the bike section and on the front for run section, a tri race belt facilitates this. If you don t have one you can purchase one at registration. Teams are provided with 2 bibs. Bike Plate This must be displayed on the handlebars facing forwards and must not be cut or folded. Cable ties will be available to help with this. security wristband To be worn at all times to access transition. Insurance - Unless you are an affiliated member of your home country s Federation you must purchase a Day License Membership at registration. It s valid on the day of your competition and cannot be transferred. Please bring a cheque or the correct change of 5 to buy your membership at registration. If you are an affiliated member of the British Triathlon Federation or your home country s federation please present your annual membership ID to our team at registration when you pick up your goodie bag. Please bring the correct change of 5 to buy your membership at registration or if you are an affiliated member of the British Triathlon Federation please present your day or annual membership ID to our team at registration when you pick up your goodie bag. Race Number Station - To aid referees in athlete identification, your race number must be clearly displayed on your right upper arm and right outer calf. Permanent Pens will be available to add this to your body at registration if you have not done this at home.
General event information Event Expo This will be located in Registration. Headline Sponsor, Odlo, will have their pop up shop and Wild Trail will be bringing free samples for all to try. Based at the Visitor Centre, the event hub is in a beautiful location where the whole family can enjoy all of the race action along with live commentary. Live race tracker The Odlo Coed Y Brenin Live Results system and tracker is now available on the website. Participants, Family & Friends can all use the Live Results to share in the fun. Sign Up now to have race progress of yourself, family and/or friends posted directly to your Facebook or Twitter feeds! On race day, spectators can get the status of runners in real-time using the Participant Tracker & Leaderboard. Details such as time, pace, and estimated finish will be instantly available! Race timing The race will be timed using TDL services electronic timing systems. It is compulsory for all competitors to wear their timing chip on their left ankle; in clear view, without being covered by tights or socks. Failure to do so may result in you not being classified in the race results. PRIZE Giving The prize giving for the Sprint and Full Duathlon will take place at the race finish at approximately 14.00. If you think you re a winner make sure you re there to receive your prize, stand on the podium and receive a huge Welsh cheer! If you re not a winner, come and give them a cheer with us. Prizes must be collected on the day and cannot be posted. Facilities There will be ample toilets and warm showers in the main Visitor Centre. Showers may require tokens, available from reception.
General event information Continued... Event Photography Photos will be available post race on our Facebook page, race report and the event website. Photos are provided by Sport Pictures Cymru. Event T-shirts Pick up your pre-ordered t-shirts and hoodies from registration. If you haven t ordered one already there will be a very limited supply for sale at Registration. All T-shirts and prizes must be collected on the day and cannot be posted out. Littering Any person found littering will be immediately disqualified from the event and banned from all Always Aim High Events. Please respect the beautiful location you are running and riding in, and dispose of any gels or bottles responsibly. You may dispose of your gel wrappers at the designated litter points with event marshals along the route, and at the feed stations. car parking Race Day car parking has been included in your entry fee. Event parking will be located on the top level. Please follow the direction of signs and marshals. Spectators will need to use the appropriate Pay and Display facilities when parking closer to the Visitor Centre. Always Aim High Events cannot accept any responsibility for damage to vehicles.

TRANSITION Transition Security All competitors will be issued with a race wristband, which must be worn for you to be allowed access to the transition area. Please respect this in the interest of safety and security of your equipment. You will also need to show your race number so that it matches the number on your bike when leaving transition at the end of the event. Transition Rules In accordance with British Triathlon Rules (Rule 7.1.c) boxes are no longer allowed in transition, only a small soft-sided bag or rucksack can remain. It is the responsibility of the competitor to ensure that any bag used in transition does not impede other competitors, if it is found to be in the way it will be removed to the bag store. There will be an area provided within transition to leave your bags and boxes, however, these will be left at your own risk. We reccomend you return all non essential items to your car or leave them with a friend. transition times Transition will open at 08:00 and will strictly close at 09:45 on the morning of the race. Please be aware that this means transition must be clear of all competitors (except team members awaiting their relay mate). transition layout Please familiarise yourself with Transition whilst racking your bike. It consists of a common RUN IN/ RUN OUT, and at the opposite end a BIKE IN/ BIKE OUT. energy stations There will be a drink station in Transition for both distances, with High5 Electrolyte and Water to fill up water bottles. The Sprint and Full Distances will have a water station on the Run at the end of the major climb, visible on the map up in Registration. There will be a water station on the Bike lap at the course summit, this is approximately half way around the bike lap. There will be a feedstation at the Finish Line. Hot drinks and hot food are available to purchase in the Visitor Centre Cafe.

Race day duathlon start The Duathlon Start line will be at the Finish Area, in front of the Coed Y Brenin Visitor Centre. Competitors will complete their Longer run first, followed by the cycle and then followed by the Shorter run. run SECTIONs The run is well signposted and marshals will be present at many junctions. SPRINT Athletes will complete a 5.4km Loop as thier First Run (RUN 1) and a 1.8km second Loop as the Second Run (RUN 2). FULL Athletes will complete a 9.2km Loop as thier First Run (RUN 1) and a 5.4km second Loop as the Second Run (RUN 2). Runners taking part in a team should pass their timing chip to the cyclist after RUN 1. After the BIKE, the cyclist finishing their section, must rack their bike in the transition area before making their way to the team handover point again to pass their timing chip to the RUN 2 Runner who must be waiting in the team handover area. Team Members are advised to bring warm layers to wear whilst waiting for their team members to return. Part of the run is on public footpaths, please be aware and considerate to other users. IMPORTANT Run course specific hazards Uneven and slippery ground there will be numerous potential hazards underfoot along the entire run route. Appropriate footwear should be worn and be aware of the ground conditions. Motor Vehicles you will be running in part on forest roads, which require 24/7 access by forestry authorities. Check both directions before crossing or joining these for oncoming forestry, event or emergency vehicles. Runners must give way to all motor traffic. Cyclists As the UK s premiere Trail Centre, Coed Y Brenin draws thousands of cyclists, even during winter. Keep alert to cyclists approaching from behind or shooting out of the woods.
cycle section Change into your cycling kit in the transition area. Any cyclist taking part in a relay team should wait in the team handover area to pass on the timing chip that acts as a baton. This must be done before making their way to pick up their bike. The team handover area will be just inside the transition area as you enter from the first run. The area will be clearly marked. A good quality and fit, British standard (or similar) helmet must be worn and fastened during the cycle section. This will be checked before the start and anyone not complying with these standards will not race. Important your helmet MUST be fastened before you take your bike off the rack and MUST NOT be unfastened until your bike is back on the rack. You should not mount your bike in the transition area. The location to mount and dismount your bike will be clearly marked with signs and will be staffed and checked by marshals. Be aware of pedestrians, they may not have seen or heard you if you are approaching them from behind. The cycle route is clearly signposted. Marshals and signs will guide you at path junctions and road junctions. There is a short onroad section as part of the cycle element. The Highway Code must be strictly obeyed here. Give way to traffic; marshals are NOT there to stop traffic. You must obey all signals, signs and markings. btf specific bike rules 19.4 Mountain Biking Conduct: a.) The maximum tyre diameter for the MTB is 29 inches/74 centimetres. The minimum cross section is 1.5inch/3.8 centimetre; Front and rear wheels may have different diameters; b.) Studded and/or slick tyres are allowed; c.) Competitors are allowed to push or carry the bike over the course; d.) Lapped competitors will not be removed from the race; e.) Clip-ons (Aerobars) are not allowed; f.) Traditional road handlebars are forbidden; g.) Traditional MTB bar ends are authorized. Thus: If you intend to use a cyclocross bike for the Trail Duathlon you must ensure it conforms to the rules as laid out in 19.4. (This Means Flat Bars.)

Cycle Specific Hazards Transition exit Be aware of pedestrians. Bridge There is a fast approach down hill to a give way, be aware of approaching traffic. Give way and cross the bridge. Be aware of approaching cyclists and traffic at all times. Underpass This is the narrowest part of the course! Be aware of approaching cyclists and foot traffic at all times. Marshals will be here to warn of other users. Road Section- All competitors use a small section of tarmac to enter the forrest roads. This is Right Turn over the country lane. Exercise caution and give way to traffic from the left and right. Steep descents Steep descents on the course allow for speeds in excess of 40mph. Exercise extreme caution and slow down before any turns. Man Trap This section is single track and requires riders to remain in single file. Exercise extreme caution and give priority to the rider in front. IMPORTANT NOTICE This section is technical in places and we would recommend you take extra caution as it can become very slippery in winter conditions. Re-joining the road- The last forest descent arrives onto the tarmac road via a sharp chicane. This is to ensure you slow down appropriately before rejoining the highway. Please follow all signage and slow down to avoid missing the junction. Returning Road Section- All competitors use a small section of tarmac to return to the centre. Exercise caution and give way to traffic from the left and right. Full athletes must exercise extreme caution when lapping at the base of the forest. Underpass This is the narrowest part of the course! Be aware of approaching cyclists and foot traffic at all times. Marshals will be here to warn of other users. Finish be prepared to stop - dismount be aware of officials and pedestrians.

When the following signs are shown, there will be a necessity to reduce your speed, change direction or stop.
