THOROUGHBRED RACING S.A. LIMITED STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORT Report on Race Meeting held at Morphettville Parks Racecourse by the South Australian Jockey Club on Wednesday, 6 August 2014 Stewards: M. Santoro (A/Chairman), S. Callanan (F), D. Bucknell (HT) & P. Ryan (M) (Stewards), D. Southgate, A. Quinton, M. Ferguson & N. Henry (Deputy Stewards), Dr. B. Agnew & Dr. P. Horridge (Veterinary Surgeons). TRACK: Dead 5 WEATHER: Fine RAIL: Normal RACE 1 : TATTSBET MAIDEN PLATE - 1400 metres OAKBANK REIGN (J. Kah) was slow to begin. SIR CHOISIR (E. Boyd) over-raced in the early stages of the event and was inclined to hang out throughout. SIR CHOISIR was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities. RACE 2 : FARRELL O NEIL FILLIES & MARES MAIDEN PLATE - 1400 metres SURFINE which was fractious in its float en route to the course was examined on arrival by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon who reported some minor abrasions to the off side stifle and passed the mare fit to race. ALL THE TIME (L. Hopwood) stood flat footed when the gates were released and missed the start approximately 50 metres, was unable to improve onto the back of the field and was uncompetitive in the event. ALL THE TIME was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities. Trainer Mr J. Dunn was advised that the mare would be required to jump away with the field in an Approval Jump Out or an Official Barrier Trial prior to accepting for a future race. LOUISIANA (A. Herrmann) was slow to begin. MARY LA BELLE (J. Benbow) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out contacting LOOKING THROUGH (B. Claridge). LOOKING THROUGH (B. Claridge) raced wide without cover throughout the event. Inside the 800 metres DEAR DARLIN (S. Cahill) shifted out slightly onto MARY LA BELLE (J. Benbow), which was inconvenienced when tightened onto LOOKING THROUGH (B. Claridge). Approaching the 600 metres MARY LA BELLE (J. Benbow) was forced to steady momentarily when tightened between DEAR DARLIN (S. Cahill), which shifted out slightly at the same time as LOOKING THROUGH (B. Claridge) rolled in. LOUISIANA (A. Herrmann) was held up from the vicinity of the 400 metres until inside the 300 metres when racing behind I DREAM OF GINA (J. Frew) and inside DEAR DARLIN (S. Cahill). I DREAM OF GINA, which performed below expectations, was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the mare to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer, Mr J. Hickmott was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness would be required prior to accepting for a future trial or race. RACE 2 : FARRELL O NEIL FILLIES & MARES MAIDEN PLATE - 1400 metres (Cont d) Stewards questioned B. Claridge, the rider of LOOKING THROUGH, into the use of his whip prior to the 100 metres. He pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A(5)(a)(i) in that he used his whip in a forehand manner in consecutive strides prior to the 100 metres and was reprimanded. RACE 3 : MAC JUST OVER? DON T DRIVE MAIDEN PLATE - 1000 metres LONDON TRADER (S. Carr) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out contacting KAMINARI BOY (K. Bishop). SEPTEMBER STORM (L. Hopwood) shifted in on jumping away and brushed THE HUNT IS ON (L. Stojakovic). THE HUNT IS ON (L. Stojakovic) raced wide without cover throughout the event. BENGAL TIGER (J. Toeroek) was held up from inside the 500 metres until approaching the 300 metres when racing behind READY SUNSHINE (C. Lever) and inside THE HUNT IS ON (L. Stojakovic). BENGAL TIGER was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding exhibited signs of mild tying up. Rounding the home turn in the vicinity of the 400 metres LONDON TRADER (S. Carr) shifted out slightly onto SEPTEMBER STORM (L. Hopwood), which had to be momentarily steadied when awkwardly placed on that gelding s heels and shortly after shifted out onto IMTELLINGYOUNOW (NZ) (J. Holder), which was obliged to alter course back to that filly s inside. S. Cahill and L. Hopwood were reminded of their obligations when shifting ground. At the entrance to the straight SOVEREIGN DUKE (J. Bowditch) shifted out slightly onto READY SUNSHINE (C. Lever), which was taken out onto THE HUNT IS ON (L. Stojakovic), inconveniencing that filly. Approaching the 200 metres FILLY OF STEEL (J. Benbow) was forced to steady momentarily when KAMINARI BOY (K. Bishop) rolled out slightly. J. Holder, the rider of IMTELLINGYOUNOW (NZ), explained that the gelding had jumped away well but had a low head carriage in the early stages of the event and then felt awkward in its action and was reluctant to improve despite his efforts. He added that he had balanced the gelding around the home turn as it had an inclination to lay out and had been suspended in the past, however, after being obliged to alter course at the entrance to the straight, IMTELLINGYOUNOW (NZ) had balanced up and grabbed the bit and finished its race off strongly. IMTELLINGYOUNOW (NZ) was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding to be lame in the near hind leg. Trainer, Mr C. Graves was advised a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness would be required prior to accepting for a future trial or race. J. Potter, the rider of LIBERTY MISS, explained that the mare had shown speed in the early and middle stages of the event and had travelled well, however, from the vicinity of the 200 metres had commenced to give ground of its own accord and for this reason he had not persisted in riding LIBERTY MISS out to the line. LIBERTY MISS was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities. Mr J. Hyam, Trainer of LONDON TRADER, reported to Steward that on return to his stables he had the gelding undergo an endoscopic examination, which revealed that the gelding was a roarer. He explained that LONDON TRADER would undergo an operation in the near future and would be spelled. T:\Stewards\STEWARDS REPORTS\2015 Stewards Reports\MRPK060814.docx Page 2 of 5

RACE 4 : MITTYS RATING 0-62 HANDICAP - 1250 metres The start of this event was delayed approximately four minutes owing to MISS FEARLESS losing it s near fore plate en route to the barriers and required Farrier attention. HIDDEN S SISTER (A. Patterson) shifted in on jumping away making heavy contact with MISS FEARLESS (D. Tourneur) unbalancing that rider. EXCITATE (T. O Donnell) raced fiercely in the early and middle stages of the event. At the entrance to the straight THE CONCORDE (J. Bowditch) shifted out to improve and in doing so bumped SCHADUW (J. Kah), which was inconvenienced when taken wider. Approaching the finish MISS FEARLESS (D. Tourneur) laid out under pressure onto EXCITATE (T. O Donnell), which was inconvenienced when tightened onto MOLASMO JET (C. Lever). MISS FEARLESS was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities. C. Lindop, the rider of REPO ZEST, reported that the gelding was inclined to lay out throughout the event and approaching the finish had shifted out and away from the big screen and the winning post. REPO ZEST was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities. J. Bowditch, the rider of THE CONCORDE, was questioned in relation to the racing pattern of this gelding in the event. He explained that THE CONCORDE had jumped away well and he had encouraged it to go forward to take up a position on pace as instructed, however, the gelding was reluctant to improve and due to the formation of the field to his inside, had elected to restrain and obtain cover rather than being caught wide in the event. RACE 5 : EXPRESS COLOUR PRINTING RATING 0-62 HANDICAP - 1950 metres RICH PRIDE (J. Frew) was slow to begin and over-raced in the early and middle stages of the event. MANGANESE (J. RACE 6 : PROJECTION GRAPHICS RATING 0-62 HANDICAP - 1000 metres FORCE OF THREE (T. Baker) shifted in on jumping away contacting WICKED TYCOON (R. Stewart). JACK S A TIGER TOO (A. Patterson) jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin. DR DAPPER (L. Hopwood) and OUR ROYAL ROSE (S. Price) came together and bumped on jumping away. In the vicinity of the 700 metres WICKED TYCOON (R. Stewart) shifted in onto TRIPLESS (D. Dunn), which was forced to race in restricted room for several strides and had to be eased. R. Steward was reprimanded and advised in future to only shift ground when entitled to do so. TRIPLESS (D. Dunn) became held up from the vicinity of the 400 metres until near the 200 metres when awkwardly placed between the heels of WICKED TYCOON (R. Stewart) and DON ROBERTO (J. Potter). WICKED TYCOON was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities. T:\Stewards\STEWARDS REPORTS\2015 Stewards Reports\MRPK060814.docx Page 3 of 5

RACE 6 : PROJECTION GRAPHICS RATING 0-62 HANDICAP - 1000 metres (Cont d) DR DAPPER (L. Hopwood) was inclined to lay in throughout the event and in the vicinity of the 50 metres shifted in onto FORCE OF THREE (T. Baker), which was forced to stop riding momentarily. DR DAPPER was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding s teeth required attention. Trainer, Mr M. Vassallo was advised to have this attended to prior to presenting for a future trial or race. DON ROBERTO lost its off hind plate during the event. Correct Weight was delayed to allow T. Baker, the rider of the second placegetter FORCE OF THREE, to view the official footage in the straight. BLADE RUNNER was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities. L. Hopwood, the rider of DR DAPPER, was questioned in relation to the use of her whip. She pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) in that she used her whip in a forehand manner on more than five occasions prior to the 100 metres and was fined $100. RACE 7 : IRISH DAY 30 TH AUGUST RATING 0-68 HANDICAP - 1400 metres DO TELLE (NZ) which was fractious in its float en route to the course was examined on arrival by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon who reported abrasions to the off fore leg and off stifle and passed the gelding fit to race. CARNIVAL CLASS (C. Lindop) reared on jumping away and was slow into stride and shortly after was inconvenienced by SCENIC LAKE (S. Price), which was taken in by CHONDRA (A. Herrmann), which shifted in and away from EXALTED TOBY (J. Kah). NADAKA (J. Toeroek) and PORTICI (T. Pannell) came together and bumped on jumping away. DO TELLE (NZ) (K. Bishop) jumped away awkwardly. CHONDRA (A. Herrmann) raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event. CARNIVAL CLASS (C. Lindop) raced keenly in the middle stages of the event. In the vicinity of the 200 metres and again approaching the 100 metres ROWDY ROCKER (L. Hopwood) raced in restricted room between the heels of PORTICI (T. Pannell) and NADAKA (J. Toeroek) and was forced to stop riding on both occasions. NADAKA was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding, which was galloped on, had re-opened an existing injury to the near hind heel. RACE 8 : ANGELAKIS BROS RATING 0-68 HANDICAP - 1400 metres TOO DISCREET (D. Dunn) shifted out on jumping away tightening SHADE OF GREEN (J. Holder) onto MOLLY THE SNIP (A. Herrmann). QUIET CHAT (J. Kah) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out onto BRINKLEY BLISS (J. Frew), which lost its position when tightened onto VISUAL IMPACT (C. Lindop). BISCAYNE BLUE (W. Kerford) was slow into stride. TOO DISCREET (D. Dunn) raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event. QUIET CHAT (J. Kah) raced wide without cover throughout the event. As there was no available Apprentice on course able to ride at her minimum riding weight, S. Carr was permitted to ride both horses. S. Carr pleaded guilty to a charge under AR120(b) and was fined $300.
