PITCHING MATCH-UP RH Jio Orozco (1-2, 6.08) vs. LH Oddy Nunez (0-3, 3.65) Orozco: Pitched 5.0 shutout innings on 5/10 @ HIC with 3 K in first W (11-2 RiverDogs) Nunez: Pitched 3.2 shutout innings on 5/11 @ ASH with 6 K and 1 BB in ND (2-1 Power) LEADING OFF: The Power were held to just one run on five hits in a 4-1 loss Monday evening. The only West Virginia run came in the second inning. Trae Arbet was hit by a pitch to begin the inning. After a flair single by Carlos Munoz, Arbet moved to third. Ty Moore lifted a sacrifice fly to drive in the game s first run. Charleston put up three runs in the third and a solo shot by Brandon Wagner in the ninth sealed the deal. With the loss, the RiverDogs lead this series two games to one as the Power look to split their fourth series out of eleven total. In seven series at home, including this one, West Virginia has won only one (HIC 5/2-5/4). BATTLE FOR CHARLESTON: West Virginia and the Charleston RiverDogs complete their series this evening. The RiverDogs took two of three at Appalachian Power Park last month and lead the all-time series 48-36. The Power have won 19 times over 42 games at home against the New York Yankees affiliate since 2005. After this series concludes, West Virginia and Charleston still have six games remaining against each other during the first half. WVP Hitting- WVP Pitching- G 3 W-L 1-2 HOMESTAND STATISTICS AVG..202 AB 99 H 20 R 11 ERA 3.33 IP 27.0 DAYTIME DELIGHT: Oddy Nunez will square off with the RiverDogs for the first time in his career. He has faced just one Yankees affiliate in his three year career; Nunez faced the DSL Yankees on July 13, 2015. The left hander struck out two over an inning and two-thirds in a no-decision. Last time out against Asheville, Nunez tied a career high in strikeouts with six; a feat he s completed twice this year and three times all-time. THINK OF THE CHILDREN: For the second time this season, the Power and RiverDogs face off on a Grand Slam School Day. West Virginia was victorious 3-2 in a two hour, five minute game (shortest of the year, now done twice). Charleston is 0-7 in day games this season after losing on Sunday. The Power dropped two school day games in 2016, losing to Kannapolis and Rome in April. GOING, GOING GONE: The Power struck for four home runs in Sunday s 10-2 win. The West Virginia pitching staff surrendered two long balls to the RiverDogs. It was the second time this year the club has hit four home runs in a game and also the second time the pitching staff had allowed two home runs in a game this season. GIMME GIMME MORE: This season, the Power are 14-3 when score five or more runs in a game, good for a.882 winning percentage. West Virginia is 3-17 when scoring less than five runs. THE LONG ROAD AHEAD: After this four-game series, West Virginia will play 14 of their next 18 games on the road. The Power start a seven-game swing to Columbia and Augusta on Thursday, return home for four on May 25 and then travel to Charleston and Rome beginning on Memorial Day. West Virginia is 9-4 on the road this season. SUSPENSIONS HANDED OUT: After Wednesday s altercation with Asheville, the South Atlantic League office suspended two Power players for their actions. Hunter Owen was suspended for three games, but has since been activated. Arden Pabst began his four-game suspension yesterday and will be available starting Saturday. POWER POINTS: Albert Baur went 3-4 on Sunday with a home run and a double. Baur singled on Monday... Brent Gibbs homered in his first Power at bat in Sunday s win.
